A RETENIR

In a major setback to the government, the Supreme Court has rejected their objections to Rafale documents, saying that three “classified” documents are admissible in Court.

The Supreme Court pronounced its decision on whether or not to admit certain ‘confidential’ documents as evidence when conducting the review in the Rafale case. Read more

A huge crash for Fernando Alonso has caused the Australian Grand Prix to be stopped.

Alonso was attacking Esteban Gutierrez and using DRS approaching the braking point for Turn 3 when the McLaren clipped the rear of the Haas, breaking its front right suspension. Alonso was then a passenger as his car hit the outside wall at high speed, dug in to the gravel trap and was sent somersaulting in to the barrier.

Amazingly, Alonso climbed out of the car and appeared to only be shaken by the incident but without injury. Gutierrez’s car was less heavily damaged and he too was uninjured.

The incident occurred with Gutierrez having yet to pit but Alonso on new soft tyres.

The race was immediately brought under control under the safety car and then red flagged with huge debris in the area requiring clearing up. Sebastian Vettel was leading from Nico Rosberg at the time of the stoppage, which lasted for 20 minutes.

2016 F1 season: Team-by-team preview

LIVE: Chinese Grand Prix – FP3

November 28, 2019 | News | No Comments

Follow live coverage of the third free practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix with F1i.

FP3 gets underway at 1200 local time at Shanghai International Circuit. It’s the last chance for the drivers to fine-tune their cars before this afternoon’s all-important qualifying session and tomorrow’s race.

  • LIVE: Chinese Grand Prix – FP3

Friday saw Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton top the first practice session which was hit by two red flags for punctures for Williams’ Felipe Massa and Renault’s Kevin Magnussen. It was all change in the afternoon, with Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel setting the pace in a session largely given to long race stints. That could potentially make today’s qualifying – which thankfully reverts to the 2015 format after the ill-fated experiment with countdown elimination – particularly engrossing and crucial all round.

In any case, Hamilton is already on the back foot because of a five-place grid penalty he’s received after having to take a new gearbox following the discovery of damage following the Bahrain GP. That means the highest he can start Sunday’s race is sixth place, even if he wins pole later today.

Also at a disadvantage this weekend are Magnussen and Haas F1’s Esteban Gutierrez who both lost a lot of practice time on Friday. Gutierrez ran only half a dozen laps during the entire day, suffering an electrical problem in the morning and then a nasty brake fire in the afternoon.

Meanwhile we’re happy to be able to report that Fernando Alonso is back in action this weekend. He’s still in some discomfort from the fractured ribs he sustained in that horror crash in Melbourne last month, but he doesn’t need any further medical evaluations in order to race – although he’s been told to pull over and stop if he experiences any ‘abnormal symptoms’ at any point over the weekend.

F1i’s live page has been updated to bring you a better user experience, while the coverage will bring you all the latest information about what is happening on track as well as news and features from the paddock.

They say that humanity is the true religion of mankind. Perhaps, humanity is dying a slow death. Barbaric and atrocious incidents are coming to light with every passing day. While women safety finds a mention in all political party manifestos, it is a concern only on paper.

Women in different parts of India continue to get brutally assaulted by gangsters. In a heart-wrenching incident, a female engineering student was tortured, raped, burnt to death before she was hung to a tree in Karnataka.

The incident reportedly took place on April 13 when the girl was reported to be missing from her college. The girl who was in her early 20s was found hanging from a tree on April 16; three days after she went missing.

Additional examples of what human rights experts are calling clear cases of ‘war crimes’ against the people of the Gaza Strip continued on Thursday as Israel military forces bombed both a UN school acting as an emergency shelter for civilians and a hospital caring for those already suffering from the bombardment that began on July 8 and has now claimed over 700 lives in the sealed-off territory.

Earlier on Thursday, at least fiften people were killed and scores wounded when the shelter operated by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) was hit be Israeli fire.

As The Guardian reports:

Pools of blood soiled the school courtyard, amid scattered books and belongings. There was a large scorch mark in the courtyard marking the place where one of the tank shells hit.

The strike occurred during a day of heavy fighting throughout the coastal territory as Israel pressed ahead with its operation to halt rocket fire from Gaza and destroy a sophisticated network of cross-border tunnels.

The Gaza health official Ashraf al-Kidra said the dead and injured in the school compound were among hundreds of people seeking shelter from heavy fighting in the area.

It was the fourth time a UN facility has been hit in fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza, since the Israeli operation began on 8 July.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was is “appalled” by news of the attack, adding that the incident underscores the need to stop all fighting immediately.

“Many have been killed – including women and children, as well as UN staff,” Mr. Ban said in statement issued in Erbil, Iraq, where he is currently on an official visit. Though circumstances were still unclear at the time of his statement, Ban said he “strongly condemn[ed] this act” by Israeli forces.

Later in the day, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Gaza City was partially destroyed as one young child was killed and dozens of other people were wounded by Israeli strikes.

According to the Ma’an News Agency:

A toddler was killed and dozens of other Palestinians were injured in a Gaza City hospital late Thursday as an Israeli bomb struck the area, medics said.

Ibrahim al-Sheikh Omar, two-and-a-half years old, was in the ICU of Muhammad al-Durra hospital when an Israeli strike hit outside.

Medical sources said the boy was hit by shrapnel from the explosion, killing him on the spot.

Thirty other Palestinians were injured in the strike.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma’an she was looking into the incident.

The army has repeatedly claimed that hospitals have been used as launching grounds for Palestinian militants during the Israeli offensive on Gaza.

On Tuesday of this week, Richard Falk, a professor at Princeton University and the the former UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights, described what is currently happening in Gaza as a ‘massacre’  performed by an overwhelmingly powerful military force against a nearly defenseless civilian population. In an op-ed published on Al-Jazeera, Falk wrote:

The events in Gaza are essentially a repetition of prior Israeli incursions with heavy sophisticated weaponry in which the people of Gaza are the helpless victims of Israeli firepower, with no place to hide, and increasingly without even such necessities of life as water and electricity, whose facilities have been targeted by Israel’s precision weaponry.

By now we should all understand that one-sided violence whether in the form of torture or state terror is criminal behaviour. When it leads to many civilian deaths on one side and few civilian casualties on the other side, then such state terror is best characterised as a massacre, epitomised by the high civilian death toll on July 20 in the Gaza City neighbourhood of Shujayea where a crowded residential district was repeatedly shelled by heavy IDF artillery.[…]

As with earlier massive Israeli military operations carried out against the people of Gaza 2008-2009, and 2012, the defenceless Gazan population is again being cruelly victimised. If an adversary of the West was behaving as Israel has since July 8, it would be branded an aggressor whose leaders would likely be held accountable before the International Criminal Court (ICC) or some other tribunal with the authority to prosecute persons accused of international crimes which have distressed the US government and its allies.

Remarking on the dire situation for Palestinians, Democracy Now! correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous—reporting from the Gaza Strip on Thursday—described how civilians have no place safe to go:

Sauber cancels post-Spanish GP test participation

November 28, 2019 | News | No Comments

The Sauber F1 team has announced that it will forfeit the post-Spanish Grand Prix test, the first of two in-season sessions scheduled this year.

The Swiss outfit has tweeted that it will skip the opening group running for two reasons. First, they will not introduce an upgrade to the Ferrari-powered C35 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, thus lessening the significance of testing.

Secondly, Sauber claims it cannot meet the requirement whereby teams have to field young drivers who have not started more than two grands prix in at least two of the four days of in-season testing. Last year, it run former reserve driver and Ferrari protégé Raffaele Marciello.

News of the cancellation comes in the wake of Sauber’s very challenging start to the 2016 F1 season, both on the sporting and financial sides. The Hinwill-based outfit is one of only two squads – with Manor – yet to score points, while team principal Monisha Kaltenborn recently admitted that meagre resources were delaying evolutions to the C35.

Sauber also saw former technical director Mark Smith leave the team on the eve of the season.

The first in-season test is scheduled for May 17/18, while the second session will take place after the British Grand Prix on July 12/13.
