The U.S. women’s gymnastics team has a lot to prove next month when the Olympic Games start in Rio. As defending team gold medalists, there’s pressure to defend that title, and as the country that’s produced the last three all-around champions in a row, there’s tremendous expectations to make it a four-peat.

That’s very likely to happen, with three-time world champion Simone Biles now officially on the U.S. team. Biles (above) easily won the two-day Olympic trials in San Jose, Calif., cementing her reputation as the best gymnast in the world. Biles hasn’t lost a major competition since winning the world championships in 2013. Despite an uncharacteristic fall off the beam and a small break on the uneven bars, Biles’s high-difficulty routines meant even a few deductions kept her well ahead of her 12 other competitors.

As the winner of the Olympic trials event, Biles was the only guaranteed member of the Rio-bound team. The remaining four members were chosen by a selection committee of three—national team coordinator Martha Karolyi; Tatiana Perskaia, a women’s national team coach; and Terin Humphrey, the athlete representative. The panel met for nearly half an hour after the trials were completed at the SAP Center to name the remainder of the team.

After the agonizing wait, Gabrielle Douglas (above), reigning Olympic all-around gold medalist from London 2012, learned that she qualified for her second Olympic trip despite coming in seventh at the trials. Her second-place finish behind Biles at last year’s world championships and her experience with Olympic-level competition, particularly on the uneven bars where the U.S. team is weak, however, made up for her trials performance. Her London teammate Aly Raisman (below) also earned a second Olympic spot with solid finishes throughout this season.

Joining them are first-time Olympians Laurie Hernandez from Old Bridge, N.J., and Madison Kocian of Dallas. Hernandez (below) was the surprise standout of the trials, with a memorably energetic floor routine and consistent routines on the three other events over the two-day competition, making it clear she’s ready for a shot at the Olympics.

The team is a carefully built group meant to give the U.S. the best chance of defending its team gold. Three gymnasts will compete on each of the four events, and Karolyi and the selection committee scrutinized each gymnast’s routine to figure out which combination of programs would yield the highest overall score. Biles excels at vault, floor, and balance beam, as does Raisman, while Douglas and Kocian (below) are specialists on the uneven bars, and Hernandez shines on floor.

The team now heads to Houston to the National Training Center for further training, during which Karolyi will determine the final lineup of who will compete on which event in Rio.

Girls’ day out! Cameron Diaz went makeup-free as she indulged in a spa day in Los Angeles Tuesday, stepping out in a body-hugging, gray maxi dress and a tan cardigan.

The Annie star paired her casual street style look with a gray crossbody bag, and wore her blonde looks straight and parted in the middle, as she made her way inside with sister-in-law Nicole Richie.

The House of Harlow founder also went fresh-faced as the duo got their nails done together, and sported a flowy, printed maxi dress for the occasion. Diaz and Richie seemed to be in good spirits as they enjoyed some girl time away from their identical twin husbands, Benji and Joel Madden.

The pair has already proven they have no problem going barefaced on the streets of Los Angeles together. Diaz and Richie were spotted out and about and bonding in Beverly Hills in July, with both showing off their effortless style as they headed out of a restaurant.

You may remember that historic visit Leonardo DiCaprio made to Pope Francis to discuss climate change back in January of this year—an unprecedented move for the Catholic Church thanks to one of their most progressive popes in recent history—he even has an Instagram!

The visit was recorded and now makes an appearance in DiCaprio’s recently released environmental documentary Before the Flood, which chronicles his various meetings with scientists, activists and world leaders to discuss the dangers of climate change and possible solutions. 

Upon meeting the pope, DiCaprio greets him in Italian, saying, “your Holiness, thank you for granting me this private audience with you,” and presenting him with a book featuring artwork from painter Hieronymus Bosch. The 41-year-old actor said the triptych “The Garden of Earthly Delights” used to hang over his crib as a baby. In return the pope gave DiCaprio a leather-bound version of his encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’.

“One of the most important spiritual leaders on the planet has now called upon the world community to accept the modern science of climate change,” DiCaprio, narrates in the background, explaining the significance of the meeting. “A pope has never done anything like this in history.”

The crop tops, high-waist denim, and satin shorts Lady Gaga has worn while promoting “Perfect Illusion” define rock ‘n’ roll, but when it comes to her look on American Horror Story season 6, let’s just say Halloween came early this year.

Ryan Murphy’s beloved FX show premiered last night and while many questions are still left unanswered—there’s usually a very clear theme to each season—we do know that this one follows a documentary-style form and is titled “My Roanoke Nightmare.” In it, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Sarah Paulson play an unsuspecting couple that moves away from L.A. and into a quiet home with plenty of surprises, but it’s not their relationship that takes the cake.

As we learned on the season 6 premiere, spooky characters from the past haunt the property, including an axe weilding one portrayed by Kathy Bates. And while much is still unknown, a new teaser offers a short preview of next week’s episode, in which Lady Gaga hits the screen.

In the video above, the singer and Golden Globe-winning actress terrifyingly screams next to Bates. Although we only get a split-second glimpse of Gaga (below, left), we’re already loving what we see.

Colombian singing sensation Shakira’s dad William turned 85 on Tuesday, so naturally she celebrated the milestone with a series of adorable family photos on social media.

“Happy birthday Papi,” the singer wrote in Spanish alongside a sweet Instagram photo (above) of her and her father smiling for the camera. Shakira signed the message with her nickname, “Shak.”

The 39-year-old Grammy winner posted a second photo of them two of them, this time joined by her mother. “Thank you all for your warm messages full of beautiful wishes for my dad on his birthday!” she captioned the family photo in Spanish. We can see where she gets her good genes—he doesn’t look a day over 65!

The “La Bicicleta” singer, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, was raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, and is the youngest of her father’s eight children.

Let’s get this out of the way: We are well aware that if a normal human attempted this look, there’s a fair chance she would resemble Cruella de Vil. But guys, Blake Lively is no normal human. In fact, I’m fairly convinced that she’s a god sent among us to demonstrate how to pull off fashion’s trickiest trends.

Case in point: these triple-mixed prints. Most of us plebeians would have second thoughts putting just two prints together in one outfit. Do these even go together? Does it look like I got dressed in the dark? Do these polka dots make my butt look big? But Lively decided that two prints just weren’t enough.

Instead, she layered on three different Michael Kors patterns, and the result can only be described as layered perfection. The mom-of-two bared her abs in a solid black crop top and high-waist black skirt with small white polka dots that hit mid-calf. Her next layer was a plush coat with a wide herringbone print, which she topped with a houndstooth coat draped over her shoulders.

She paired all of this with solid white stilettos, slightly wavy locks, and blush makeup, keeping the attention on her prints. The key here is keeping the patterns within the same color family, and not drawing any added attention via a pop of color on her feet. Even her jewelry is kept in the same color family with silver and white gold, because this fashionista is nothing if not dedicated to her craft.

Even her sister, Robyn Lively, who is pictured in the background in a black coat and embellished pumps, knows her little sis is a god among men. The Teen Witch star told InStyle earlier this week that she feels thrilled if Blake compliments an outfit she’s wearing. “I feel so good about myself, because Blake is a fashion icon, okay?” she told us.

She took the words right out of our mouths.

Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost dismissed the prospect of Alex Albon moving to Red Bull next year, insisting the British-Thai racer needs more experience to be considered for a promotion.

Albon’s recruitment by Toro Rosso at the end of last season came as a surprise, even for the 23-year-old who expected to be racing in Formula E this year with Nissan.

So far, Albon has acquitted himself in F1, racing on a par with experienced Toro Rosso team mate Daniil Kvyat and scoring a top-ten finish in Bahrain and in China.

His performances have not gone unnoticed and they’ve even fueled speculation that he could step up to Red Bull’s senior squad next season, but Tost has played down that suggestion

Alex Albon reveals Charles Leclerc’s greatest strength

“Red Bull is a different league,” Tost told Motorsport.com.

“Red Bull is a team that competes for race victories and world championships. For me, he needs at least the two or three years that I always say a driver needs until he knows how to get on in F1.

“I can explain this with examples. He is confronted with new situations in every qualifying session in the first year.

“Take Baku: the sunshine through the skyscrapers at 2pm was different than in the final practice session in the morning. The grip is different. And he is confronted with these conditions for the first time in qualifying. That’s a difference.

“Now you can say: ‘In 2020 he won’t know what the weather will be like either’. That’s true.

“But at least he then has the experience how he can drive over the kerbs, at what angle he has to approach the corners, how he has to react on the brakes, what speed he can take into the corners in order to accelerate out of the corners in the best possible way.”
