Scarlett Johansson was hit with an onslaught of backlash after not only accepting the role of a transgender man in the upcoming film, Rub & Tug, but also for defending her casting in a biting, dismissive manner.

But after some introspection, Johansson has decided to drop out of the film altogether. In a statement released Friday, she said she now understands why embodying Dante “Tex” Gill, a transgender man and massage parlor operator connected to Pittsburgh’s underground sex industry the ‘70s, would have been offensive to the LGBTQ community.

“In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project,” said Johansson. “Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive.”

She continued, “I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood. While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film.”

When news of her casting initially broke earlier this month, critics took to Twitter to explain that the story of the transition of a transgender man should be portrayed by a transgender person, not a cisgender woman. But it was Johansson’s confrontational response that made matters worse.

“Tell [critics] that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment,” Johansson’s publicist said initially, referring to other cis actors that have portrayed trans characters in Transparent, Dallas Buyer’s Club, and Transamerica, respectively.

On Twitter, trans actors Trace Lysette and Jamie Clayton clapped back at the situation, and explained their point of view.

Johansson isn’t alone in changing her tune regarding the casting of cisgender actors in trans roles. Tambor, a cis man, has often said that he now understands why his role of Maura (a trans woman) on the hit Amazon series, Transparent, should have gone to a trans actor.

Though it doesn’t always feel like it, perhaps Hollywood really is listening to the conversation.

People has announced the cover star of it’s annual Beautiful issue, and it’s already making history.

Pink is on the cover of the 2018 edition, accompanied by two of her biggest fans, her kids! It’s not her first time being featured, though. She made both the 2013 and 2014 lists, though this is the first time she’s being featured prominently in the spread. The singer, daughter Willow Sage, 6, and son Jamesom Moon, 15 months, follow 2017’s cover star Julia Roberts as the 2018 stars, and describing the cover image as adorable is certainly an understatement.

The magazine announced the news the day before with a statement.

“Over the years the name of the issue has evolved (’50 Most Beautiful,’ ‘Most Beautiful Woman,’ etc.), but the words ‘Most Beautiful’ have always been part of the title. This year we’re renaming it ‘The Beautiful Issue’—to make clear that the issue is not a beauty contest,” editor Jess Cagle wrote.

“Nothing else has changed. As always it will feature beautiful women (and a few men) of all shapes, sizes and colors, and it will celebrate the most beautiful qualities of all: strength, humanity and artistry.”

Kate Middleton only gave birth to her third child a few hours ago—but she’s already gearing up to head back home to Kensington Palace.

Why does Kate make such a quick exit? In the U.S., new mothers average two days in the hospital before heading home. However, in the U.K., new moms average a day and a half—the shortest postpartum hospital stays of any high-income country, according to a 2016 article in The Guardian. Though Kate did spent the night after giving birth to Prince George in 2013, she left less than 10 hours after welcoming Princess Charlotte in 2015.

“The length of time a woman spends in hospital will vary depending on their needs,” Louise Silverton, the director for Midwifery at the Royal College of Midwives, told The Guardian. “Midwives need to check to make sure women feel up to going home. However, provided the woman is medically fine, has the support she needs at home and the right postnatal care plan in place, and a good community midwife service, then going home even five or six hours after birth may be absolutely fine.”

Another reason for Kate’s quick exit—one that’s entirely unique to her—is the sheer frenzy her presence causes at the hospital.  Fans camp out for weeks outside and parking restrictions are put in place. Kate, of course, is not the only mother giving birth at the Lindo Wing, and the activity and noise would be overwhelming for anyone.

If Kate goes home to Kensington Palace today, help is only a phone call away if needed. Members of her medical team are likely on stand-by in case Kate or her new baby boy needs anything.

So where oh where was Ryan Reynolds on Monday night? Perhaps he really was annoyed that his wife unfollowed him on Instagram (as part of a PR stunt for her new movie, of course). Or perhaps the fact that he’s overseas promoting his upcoming film, Deadpool 2, prevented him from being Lively’s date to the Met Gala (OK, that one is probably more likely).

Either way, he was certainly missed, but his wife held her own on the red carpet as always.

Since the terrible incident transpired, the Duchess of Cambridge has had two additional pregnancies, and her hospital stays have been kept under tight security.

With Middleton in the early stages of labor on Monday, security measures are in place where she plans to deliver: the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were delivered at St. Mary’s, as were Prince William and Prince Harry. The prank call incident, however, took place at London’s King Edward VII Hospital.

Despite the tragedy that befell King Edward VII’s Hospital in 2012, it remains frequented by the royal family. Prince Philip was admitted to King Edward in early April for hip surgery. The Queen’s late sister, Princess Margaret, died at the same hospital after suffering a stroke in 2002.

Preparations have been underway for Middleton’s delivery at St. Mary’s. Sources report that she is staying in the hospital’s royal suite, which can cost nearly $10,000 per day.

“Security does regular sweeps of the room, then it’s resealed each time with tamper-proof tape,” an insider shared. “It’s a high-security operation. Even the crawl space above the room is checked regularly.”

Reportedly, there’s even a “baby team” in place at Kensington Palace—Kate’s mom, Carole, is said to be a member. The team in question is tasked with arranging everything royal baby-related, from hospital stays to the press.

It seems the Palace is committed to never allowing room for a tragic mistake to happen again.

Former Melrose Place actress Heather Locklear continues to make headlines for her health.

On Monday, Locklear was hospitalized just hours after being released from jail for an alleged attack on a police officer and an EMT, People confirms. TMZ first reported the news.

According to People, paramedics and Ventura County Sheriffs were called to Locklear’s Thousand Oaks, California on Monday to treat a possible overdose. A Sheriff’s Office spokesman told People a patient at the home was taken to Las Robles Hospital & Medical Center, though he did identify the patient by name.

Locklear, 56, has had several recent run-ins with authorities after threatening suicide earlier this month. Below, a timeline of everything we know so far.

The Alleged Attack on a Police Officer and an EMT: June 25, 2018

According to TMZ, a family member called 911 on Sunday, when she was “heavily intoxicated” and reportedly punched a police officer and kicked an EMT. After being taken to a hospital and then to jail, she was held on $20,000 bail and booked for two counts of misdemeanor battery. She was released Monday morning after posting a bail bond. According to People, she looked “disheveled.”

The Suicide Threat and Psychological Evaluation: June 18, 2018

On June 18, TMZ reported that Locklear was transported to a hospital for a psychological evaluation after a family member called the police to say she was threatening to kill herself. She was reportedly “agitated and violent,” and the caller reported she was searching for a gun.

Previous Arrests: March 2008-April 2018

In February, Locklear was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic battery and three counts of battery on a police officer. According to TMZ, her brother called 911 after he saw Locklear and her boyfriend fighting. People reports that she threatened officers and said she would “shoot them if they ever came to her house again.”

She was charged with domestic abuse in March after being accused of hitting her boyfriend, though those charges were later dropped. In April, Locklear’s attorneys Blair Berk and William Haney plead not guilty to battery on a police officer on her behalf because she was in rehab after seeking treatment for addiction.

In March 2008, Locklear’s doctor called 911 saying she was suicidal, and she later sought psychological help at a facility in Arizona, according to People. That November, she was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and later went into a rehab program. Additionally, Locklear was hospitalized in 2012 after a 911 call reported she mixed drugs and alcohol.

Later, he established a trust for the embryos (which he has named Emma and Isabella) in Louisiana, and had that trust sue Vergara in the state, according to NOLA.com, which also reports that embryos have some rights under Louisiana law. (It is one of the most anti-abortion states in the country.)

However, the actress persuaded Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to dismiss that case, because she was not subject to personal jurisdiction in Louisiana. Loeb then took up residence in southern Louisiana, himself, and went forward with a new suit in January in the small town (like, population under 13,000 small) of Belle Chasse. He then invoked Louisiana’s Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act, which requires court cases over child custody to take place in the state where the child lives.

Though Vergara attempted to have the case moved to federal court—arguing that the act pertains to living children and not embryos—Judge Lemmon, this time, sided with the plaintiffs. On July 11, Vergara is expected to ask Lemmon to reconsider the ruling, according to NOLA.com.

In his NYT op-ed, Loeb raised a number of questions, treading into murky ethical waters. “A woman is entitled to bring a pregnancy to term even if the man objects,” he wrote. “Shouldn’t a man who is willing to take on all parental responsibilities be similarly entitled to bring his embryos to term even if the woman objects? These are issues that, unlike abortion, have nothing to do with the rights over one’s own body, and everything to do with a parent’s right to protect the life of his or her unborn child.”

In 2015, Vergara’s attorney issued the following statement to People: “Vergara has never suggested that she wished to have the embryos destroyed … She has always maintained that they be kept frozen, a fact of which Loeb and his counsel have always been aware, despite Loeb’s statements to the contrary.”

While she’s been ranked as the highest paid TV actress for six years running, Vergara had a modest upbrining in her native Colombia. Loeb was raised on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with ties to both Lehman and Loeb banking families. None of his suits have asked for financial assistance.

Vergara and Loeb began dating in 2010 and became engaged in 2012. In May 2014, they called off their engagement. In December of 2014, Vergara began dating actor Joe Manganiello, and they tied the knot in 2015.

The 45-year-old actress has one son, 25-year-old Manolo Gonzalez, with her first husband and high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, whom she married when she was just 18. They split in 1993.
