Monday was a busy day when it comes to fight announcements for several upcoming events, including fights with title implications, one of which is a key addition to December’s big UFC 194 event in Las Vegas.

A middleweight bout between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yoel Romero was the big addition, joining the already loaded UFC 194 event on December 12 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bout was confirmed by UFC officials after an initial report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Souza and Romero will meet in what is likely a title eliminator bout for the UFC Middleweight Championship, which will be on the line at that UFC 194 event when champion Chris Weidman defends against top contender Luke Rockhold. It also sets up a situation where should one of those fighters get injured, Souza or Romero could slide in as a replacement. This is the third time that Souza and Romero have been booked to fight as injuries to each man have previously caused cancellations of those scheduled fights. That event is headlined by the much anticipated UFC Featherweight Championship bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.

UFC 192 on October 3 in Houston, Texas saw two fights added to the event, which were first reported by the Houston Chronicle. In a flyweight bout, it will be a battle of former title challengers as Joseph Benavidez takes on Ali Bagautinov. Benavidez is riding a three-fight win streak, and his only losses  at 125 pounds have come to Demetrious Johnson, the current title holder. Baguatinov returns from a year-long drug suspension following his title loss to Johnson at UFC 174 in June 2014. Also, in the women’s strawweight division, Rose Namajunas will take on Angela Hill. That event is headlined by UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier defending against Alexander Gustafsson, and the fight card also includes bouts between Rashad Evans and Ryan Bader, and Johny Hendricks against Tyron Woodley.

Another key flyweight bout with title shot implications was also announced as Henry Cejudo takes on Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night 78 in Monterrey, Mexico on November 21. Cejudo, a former Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, is undefeated in his nine career fights, and has won three since joining the UFC. Formiga is riding a three-fight win streak. That event airs on FOX Sports 1 and is headlined by a welterweight bout between Matt Brown and Kelvin Gastelum.

Rohingya refugees at risk of monsoon misery

July 23, 2020 | News | No Comments

Aid agencies have warned that Rohingya Muslims living in Bangladesh’s squalid refugee camps are facing yet more destruction and death due to an impending monsoon.

Since August last year 700,000 Rohingya have fled from Rakhine state in Myanmar, where, as a Muslim minority, they were persecuted by the Myanmar army and police.

They have joined an existing population of 300,000 Rohingya refugees, who left Myanmar in earlier decades, in one of Bangladesh’s poorest and most disaster-prone regions.

Conditions in the overcrowded camps are precarious, with little access to clean water and diseases rife. Now, the camps risk being wiped out altogether by the monsoon season.

“The monsoon is not a one-off…

Israel warned the Syrian regime on Friday to “get rid of the Iranians” or else risk further large scale Israeli airstrikes against Iran’s forces in Syrian territory.

A day after Israel launched “Operation House of Cards” – sending warplanes to hit 70 targets across Syria in response to what it said was an Iranian rocket attack on the Golan Heights – Israeli defence minister Avigdor Lieberman issued a message to Damascus.

“They are not helping you, they only cause damage, and their presence will only cause problems and damages,” Mr Lieberman said during a tour of the Golan. “Get rid of the Iranians and maybe it will be possible to have a different kind of life.”

Iran meanwhile denied that its forces were behind the rocket attack early on Thursday morning and said Israel had launched the airstrikes into Syria based on “fabricated and baseless excuses”.

The spike in violence between Iran and Israel across the Golan came as Tehran prepares to mount a complicated diplomatic offensive to try to salvage the Iran nuclear deal in the wake of Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw.

Javad Zarif, the Iranian foreign minister, will leave today (SAT) on a worldwide trip to Beijing, Moscow and Brussels to meet with the remaining members of the nuclear agreement and urge them not to give in to US pressure to halt trade with Iran.

“The foreign minister has been tasked with the duty of taking the necessary measures to obtain guarantees from the remaining parties of the JCPOA as well as Iran’s other economic partners,” Iran’s government said in a statement.

The statement warned that even as Mr Zarif was on his diplomatic mission Iran was making preparations so that it could resume “industrial scale” uranium enrichment.

Such a move be a breach of the nuclear agreement and likely set Iran back on a potential course towards major conflict with Israel and the US, which have both said they will not allow Iran to develop the capacity for a nuclear weapon.

Iran is seeking assurances that European, Russian and Chinese companies will continue to do business with Iran, even in the face of threats from the US that companies which do so may face American sanctions.

An early test is likely to come this week when Airbus, a European aircraft maker, is expected to announce whether it will continue with a £15 billion deal to supply Iran with 100 commercial planes.

The deal is of major importance to Iran and its national carrier, IranAir, which has been struggling for years with a fleet of aging planes. If the Airbus deal falls through it is likely to strengthen the hand of Iranian hardliners calling an end to the nuclear agreement.

Meanwhile, an aide to Vladimir Putin said that Russia was not planning to move supply the Syrian regime with sophisticated S-300 anti-aircraft missiles. Vladimir Kozhin, a Kremlin official, said the Syrian regime had “everything they needed”.

The announcement also seemed to be another sign of tensions between Iran and Russia, who are fighting on the same side on behalf of the Syrian regime. By refusing to supply the S-300 system to Damascus, Russia is leaving Iranian troops exposed to future Israeli strikes.

Asharq Al-Awsat, a London-based Arab newspaper, published an unconfirmed account tensions with Iran’s government over the attack in the Golan. It claimed that Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s president, accused the Revolutionary Guard of launching the rocket attack as a way of sabotaging his efforts to save the nuclear agreement.

Israel’s military appeared confident that its wave strikes had deterred Iran from another attack in the near future. Israeli civilians on the Golan Heights were told they could close their bomb shelters, which had been open since Tuesday. “There is intelligence information behind that decision,” a military official said.

Israeli officials said they had significantly set back Iran’s military capabilities in Syria but would remain vigilant as Iran flew in new weapons and equipment.

Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, said Iran had obtained a letter sent by Mr Trump to Arab allies demanding that they do more for the US in return for America’s military presence in the Middle East. "The US wants to own humiliated slaves," the ayatollah said.

Mr Trump has publicly complained about US allies in Europe and the Middle East taking advantage of American security guarantees. "They have to step up tremendously — not a little bit, but tremendously — their financial effort,” Mr Trump said of the Gulf states.

US officials confirmed to the New York Times that Mr Trump had sent a letter to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain, but said the Iranian leader had mischaracterised its content to make it sound more divisive than it was.

Donald Trump has blamed China for Kim Jong-un’s apparent change of heart over their face-to-face meeting as he attempted to bring North Korea back to the table.

In his fullest response to Pyongyang’s threat to cancel, the US president undermined his own national security adviser by saying the “Libya model” was not being used.

Mr Trump also promised Kim “protections” if he agreed to meet in Singapore as originally planned – an olive branch to North Korean leader.

The comments were made in the White House on Thursday as Mr Trump was meeting Jens Stoltenberg, the Nato secretary general.

The US president was due to meet Kim in Singapore on June 12 to discuss denuclearisation but the North Koreans unexpectedly said this week they could pull out of the meeting.

US-South Korean military drills, comments made by John Bolton, Mr Trump’s national security adviser, and demands for the regime to “unilaterally” give up its nuclear programme were all cited as reasons.

China has traditionally been North Korea’s closest ally and reportedly feared being alienated from talks as Mr Trump pushed ahead with his plan for a face-to-face meeting.

Mr Trump also dismissed Mr Bolton’s own suggestion last month that the “Libya model” from 2003 and 2004 would be used by America for talks with North Korea.

Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, was convinced to give up his nuclear programme at the time. However he was later toppled and killed in 2011.

North Korea singled out Mr Bolton and his Libya plan in a lengthy criticism of America’s position as they threatened to pull the plug on the Trump-Kim summit.

Mr Trump said on Thursday that the Libya model had led to “total decimation” and would not be used for his talks – addressing one of Pyongyang’s concerns.

The US president also said he was “willing to do a lot” for a deal with North Korea and told Kim he would “get protections that would be very strong”.

Mr Trump predicted Kim would be "very, very happy" if he struck an agreement, adding: “I think the best thing he could do is to make a deal.”

A retired Cambridge professor suspected of being an FBI source in the Russia investigation was later recommended for a US ambassadorship in the Trump administration, claims reports.

Prof Stefan Halper, 73, has emerged as a key figure in a battle playing out between Donald Trump and his own justice department.

According to reports, the professor approached the Trump campaign aides in the summer of 2016 in an attempt to glean information about any collusion with Russia for an FBI operation, code-named Crossfire Hurricane.

The American professor, who is a Life Fellow of Magdalene College, has not commented on the reports. The FBI declined to comment.

Republicans in Congress have been pushing for more details of the investigation and the role of the suspected informant.

Following additional pressure from Mr Trump, the Republican congressional leaders are expected to meet FBI and justice department representatives and the office of the director of national intelligence to “review highly classified information,” Sarah Sanders, the White House spokesman, said.

Last night, it was reported that the professor was recommended as a candidate to be US ambassador to an Asian country by Peter Navarro, Mr Trump’s trade adviser.

The country was not clear, but Mr Navarro and the professor are both China experts. The professor reportedly visited the White House office buildings for a meeting about China last summer.

Last night, Mr Trump suggested the FBI may have had “spies” in his campaign.

He said: “If they had spies in my campaign for political purposes that would be unprecedented in the history of our country.”

  • Les chocs/contacts ;
  • Les chutes ;

  • Les mécanismes non précisés ;

Click Here: United Kingdom Rugby Jerseys

It was previously reported that Sonya Deville will be getting a second chance to participate in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match next month as she will be taking on Naomi this coming Tuesday on SmackDown Live with the winner getting one of the last two remaining spots open for the SmackDown Live roster. The updated list of competitors for the Women’s MITB Ladder Match are: Alexa Bliss (RAW), Ember Moon (RAW), Charlotte Flair (SmackDown Live), Becky Lynch (SmackDown Live), Winner of Lana vs. Billie Kay (SmackDown Live), Winner of Sonya Deville vs. Naomi (SmackDown Live) and two more spots presumably coming from the RAW roster.
Below are the matches and segment announced for this coming Tuesday’s SmackDown Live:

– Lana vs. Billie Kay (Women’s MITB Qualifying Match)
– Samoa Joe vs. Big Cass (Men’s MITB Qualifying Match)
