New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) recently held night 12 of their Best Of The Super Juniors Tournament which emanated from the New Sunpia Takasaki in Takasaki, Japan. The show was highlighted by KUSHIDA taking on Dragon Lee in the main event. Below are the results from the show:
Prelim Matches Results:
– Tomoyuki Oka, Tiger Mask & Shota Umino def. ACH, Yuya Uemura & Yota Tsuji when Oka submitted Tsuji with a Boston Crab.

– YOSHI-HASHI & YOH def. Taiji Ishimori & Chase Owens when YOSHI-HASHI submitted Owens with a Butterfly Lock.
– Flip Gordon & Toa Henare def. Will Ospreay & Gedo when Gordon pinned Gedo after a Four Flippy Splash.
– BUSHI, SANADA & EVIL def. Minoru Suzuki, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & TAKA Michinoku when BUSHI pinned TAKA after an MX.
B Block Matches Results:

– Chris Sabin def. El Desperado.
Desperado hid by the entrance and jumped Sabin as he stepped out onto the ramp. He sent him into the audience and hit him with chairs and pied chairs on top of him. Desperado beat him all over the building, and the referee started counting Sabin out for some reason, but he made it back inside. Desperado wedged a chair between the ropes and sent Sabin into it. The beat-down continued. Sabin got a small package for a nearfall, then began to mount a comeback. He hit a springboard DDT, and a plancha. He sent Desperado into the crowd, and hit a flip dive off the apron to a seated Desperado on the floor.
Sabin hit a reverse Frankensteiner and a missile dropkick, picking up a nearfall. Desperado recovered, and hit a vicious spear, before using Guitarra de Angel for a nearfall. They traded reversals and counters, until Sabin ducked a chairshot, and kicked the chair back into Desperado’s face. The finish saw Sabin hit an enziguri, then a lariat for a nearfall, then hit Cradle Shock for the pin.

– “The Villain” Marty Scurll def. Ryusuke Taguchi.
They started with a lot of comedy. Scurll would do a taunt, Taguchi would copy it. Scurll did his wing flapping taunt, and Taguchi did a penguin. Scurll would do a move, and Taguchi would try to mirror it, but wouldn’t be able to, and sold. Scurll used some hip attacks, but Taguchi hit one, and his butt is more powerful. Scurll hit a superkick on the apron, before taunting the crowd. He used a back rake, and some short punches, before throwing Taguchi back inside. Scurll stretched Taguchi and hit a backstabber, before Taguchi and his powerful ass made a comeback. He hit a bunch of hip attacks and a nice tope. Scurll went for a surfboard, but Taguchi reached the ropes. They went to the top and Scurll teased hitting an exploder, before settling for a superplex, and a nearfall. Taguchi rolled to the floor, and applied an ankle lock to Scurll on the apron. Scurll powered out, sent Taguchi into the post, then sent him back inside, picking up a nearfall.
Scurll teased the finger break, Taguchi reversed it, but Scurll finally got it. Taguchi hit an enziguri, then went into his Nakamura tribute act. He went for the Bomaye, but Scurll turned it into the chicken wing. Taguchi rolled through into a cradle, getting a nearfall. Scurll hit the Black Plague for a nearfall. Scurll grabbed his umbrella, but Taguchi cut him off. Taguchi pretended that he had taken a low blow, and in the ensuing confusion, Scurll pushed Red Shoes, who pushed him back, right into a Taguchi rollup, but Taguchi only got a two count. Taguchi hit a bridging suplex for another nearfall. Taguchi went for another, but Red Shoes took a bump. Taguchi put on the ankle lock, and Scurll tapped, but with no referee, it didn’t matter. They did the Angle/Guerrero finish from Wrestlemania 20. While Taguchi revived the referee, Scurll unlaced his boot. Taguchi put on an ankle lock, but Scurll slipped out of the boot, and small packaged Taguchi for the pin.
– Hiromu Takahashi def. SHO.
They came out firing, immediately trading strikes and shoulder blocks. SHO got the best of the exchange, and hit a dropkick. He sent Hiromu to the apron, then hit him with a dropkick, sending him to the floor. He used an armbar, before Hiromu used a dropkick of his own to send SHO to the floor. Hiromu took control of the match, using a powerbomb from the apron to the floor. They teased a countout, as SHO sold his neck. Hiromu hit a shotgun dropkick for a nearfall, and the pace slowed, as he taunted SHO. Hiromu used a tarantula, and a low dropkick to send SHO outside, then hit a dropkick from the apron to the floor. SHO made a comeback with a powerslam, a lariat, and a series of kicks, before hitting a backstabber, and applying a cross arm breaker. Hiromu reached the ropes, then caught SHO coming off the ropes, and hit a powerbomb. They traded lariats and suplexes, and SHO went after Hiromu’s left arm.
They crawled to the apron, and exchanged strikes. SHO hit a suplex on the apron, but Hiromu came back, and hit the Dynamite Plunger for a nearfall. SHO went for a charge into the corner, but Hiromu suplexed him into the pad. He went for another Dynamite Plunger, but SHO turned it into a cross arm breaker, which the crowd bought as a potential finish, but Hiromu reached the ropes. They traded kicks. Hiromu went for a reverse Frankensteiner, but SHO caught him, power-bombed him, and hit the powerbomb on the knees for a nearfall. Hiromu went for the Frankensteiner again, but this time he got it, and slapped on the triangle choke. SHO fought, but eventually tapped. Hiromu initially refused to release the hold, and it took several Young Lions to break it up.
– KUSHIDA def. Dragon Lee.
They started with hip tosses, arm-drags, and reversals. KUSHIDA went for a hurricanrana, but Lee flipped out, and hit one of his own, sending KUSHIDA to the floor. He took his time getting back into the ring. He used an armbar in the ring, then a crucifix while Lee was caught in the ropes. Lee tried to roll to the floor, but KUSHIDA brought him back inside, and continued attacking his left arm. KUSHIDA got tossed to the floor, and Lee hit a great tope. Back inside, he attacked the head and neck of KUSHIDA with strikes, then hit a dropkick in the corner. Lee hit a backbreaker, then used an armbar. Lee tried to run the ropes, but KUSHIDA hit a back handspring elbow, sending him to the floor, before connecting with a crazy senton from the post to the floor. Back inside, KUSHIDA went for a moonsault, but Lee got his knees up, and slapped the mat, begging the crowd to get into it. Lee teased his dropkick from the ring to the floor, but KUSHIDA blocked it. They traded strikes, and both fell to the floor.
Lee was first inside, allowing KUSHIDA to hit a springboard Frankensteiner. He resumed his attack on Lee’s left arm, using the Hoverboard Lock, but Lee reached the ropes. KUSHIDA became frustrated, as he was unable to put Lee away. He got careless, and left Lee an opening. Lee hit a pair of suplexes, then applied a sleeper with a body triangle. KUSHIDA reached the ropes, grabbing them with his teeth. They exchanged strikes, and both collapsed to the mat, as the crowd got behind them. Lee hit a shining wizard for a nearfall. They went to the top. KUSHIDA used a kimura, but Lee popped out and hit a foot stomp for a nearfall. The finish saw Lee go for a powerbomb, but KUSHIDA turned it into a DDT. Lee cradled him for a nearfall, then hit a Frankensteiner. He went for a suplex, but KUSHIDA turned it into Back to the Future, and picked up the victory.

Prior to Kenny Omega defeating IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada at NJPW’s Dominion Event, he was interviewed by the official NJPW website. Below are the highlights from the interview:
On Kazuchika Okada’s dominant run as IWGP Heavyweight Champion: “As he made those defenses, one after another, after another, it came to a point where no one would just walk through the curtain and say, ‘I’m going to be the next challenger.’ He has done so much and beaten everyone so many times that he calls the shots! He makes the challenges, he makes the rules. That’s the situation we’re in right now.”
On taking the first fall in their two-out-of-three falls match: “I know the secret to this match, Okada, and the secret is that first fall. I won’t let you take it. So, if you’re thinking, ‘Hey, this is going to be a 15 minutes here, 10 minutes there, and a crazy stretch and we’re goin’ home!’ That’s not gonna happen. I am not going to give you any freebies. I’m not going to give you a first free fall, if I feel like I need a bit of a rest. You’re not getting the first fall. I’m going to take the first fall and control the pace.”

On Okada being the best wrestler, but referring to himself as the best performer in the business: “You may be the best wrestler on the planet and I’ll admit it, you are. You’re the best and it’s not even an opinion thing anymore, this is something that you’ve proven. But you can’t say you’re the best performer. That goes to me. And if we’re going to move this thing forward, if we’re gonna cause this revolution of professional wrestling and make this something worldwide and something cool. We can’t just have the best natural pro wrestler steering the ship. We need someone who captures the imagination. Who captures the heart. We need a performer and a showman, which is why I’m doing everything I can in my power to overtake you’re natural wrestling ability.”

No Fight Pass Prelim due to the cancellation of Kid Yamamoto vs. Matt Hobar bumping up Kikuno vs. Brandao to the main card and Anzai vs. Zapata to Fox Sports 2.

Bellator MMA returns to Spike TV tonight at 9 pm eastern/6 pacific with Bellator 144: Halsey vs Carvalho. In addition to the main event fight for the Middleweight Championship which Halsey was stripped off earlier this year for missing weight, the show will also feature the return of MVP, Michael Venom Page. He puts his unbeaten record on the line as he works his way toward a title shot. A brash exciting fighter who could be on a collision course with Page, Brennan Ward, takes on Dennis Olson and in the other main card fight, it’s Japan vs Brazil as the debuting Isao Kobayashi goes up against Goiti Yamauchi in a Featherweight bout.

We’ll have live coverage of the main card here starting right after the opening bell. The prelims are available for free at SpikeTV.com and we’ll also have results of those fights after they happen.

Welterweights Michael Page (8-0) vs Charlie Ontiveros (6-3)

Dan Miragliotta draws the reffing assignment for the opener. Page has 3 first round KO’s in 4 Bellator fights. Ontiveros had lost all 3 of his Bellator fights. This should be quick. The fighters are wearing pink wraps above their gloves. MVP dancing around to start as he always does and the fans are booing less than a minute in. Page with a takedown off of a clinch at 2:15. Page quickly into full mount and then takes his back. Ontiveros works him back to front and Page dropping elbows from side control and Ontiveros is out.

WINNER – MICHAEL PAGE (9-0) by TKO (elbows) at 3:20

The announcers speculate that it may have been a verbal submission as one of the elbows broke Ontiveros’ jaw. Official decision was a TKO. Sakuraba got some screen time in the pre-match video package for the next fight as Kobayashi grew up idolizing him. Jimmy Smith promises something exciting is happening in the first minute of the fight. I hope so, I have the under.

Featerweights Isao Kobayashi (18-2-4) vs Goiti Yamauchi (18-2)

Kobayashi is identified as a former King of Pancrase. I guess you can see his fights on UFC Fight Pass but the announcers don’t bring that up for some reason. They go the ground right away. Yamauchi may have pulled  guard. He goes for a heel hook from the bottom but Kobayashi gets to his feet. Yamauchi definitely pulled guard at 1:15. Yamauchi going for all kinds of whacky submissions and ends up taking his back against the cage. He gets a body triangle and then starts working for a rear naked choke. He locks it in at 3:45 with a Gable grip. Kobayashi fights out of it. Yamauchi landing heel strikes to the body and Kobayashi gets out of it with 15 seconds left and to his feet. Yamauchi stays on his back as the round ends. 10-9 Yamauchi

Bellator champions Liam McGeary and Marcos Galvao are in attendance. Kobayashi with a trip takedown 1:15 in. Ground strikes in the first were 16-8 for Yamauchi. Yamauchi locks in a body triangle from the bottom but Kobayashi landing head strikes from the top. Yamauchi working for an armbar and gets the Kimura at 2:30. Kobayashi rolls out of it but gives up top position. Yamauchi opens up a cut on Kobayashi’s forehead with elbows from the top. Yamauchi into side control at 4:30 and then quickly into mount. Yamauchi takes his back and gets a neck crank with 10 seconds left but the bell saves Kobayashi. 10-9 Yamauchi

Jimmy Smith thinks Round 1 was a 10-8. I’d be very surprised as Kobayashi came back at the end and was never in that much danger of being finished. Yamauchi drops Kobayashi with a left hook 1:00 in and goes to the ground. He goes right to the Kimura again and transitions to the back. Yamauchi with the body triangle and working for a rear naked choke at 2:00. Kobayashi works out of it but still in all kinds of trouble. Yamauchi with the rear naked choke again at 3:45 and gets the tap.

WINNER – GOITI YAMAUCHI (19-2) by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:50 of the third round

Kimbo Slice in da hizzouse. Yamauchi calls out Patricio Pitbull after the fight. They did a segment called “Quick Hits” with Michael Chandler. It was fun. A female interviewer asked him quick easy questions while he sparred. Apparently Chandler is a big fan of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball. They showed clips from the weigh-ins and Ward and Olson got into it. A fan yelled out “you’re a good actor, Ward” and it made air.

Welterweights Brennan Ward (11-3) vs Dennis Olson (14-9)

They showed the walkouts since they’re running well ahead of schedule. Olson was heavily booed coming out and gave the fans the double-finger salute. They’re barely even hiding the fact that this is basically a squash match. All but one of Ward’s wins have come by finish. Big John gets the dukes for this one. Olson goes for a takedown right off the bat and Ward grabs a guillotine. Olson ends up having to pull guard to get out of it and Ward’s on top on the ground. Ward postures up to improve position and then goes into side control rather easily at 1:30. Ward to his feet at 1:45 and Olson is forced to follow. Ward drops Olson with a punch at 2:15 and goes  to the ground with him. Ward into mount at 2:45 and dropping punches and elbows to the head. Olson works him back to guard. Ward with elbows to  the head and body, just swarming Olson. Ward stands up again at 4:30 and Olson has to follow. Ward drops im again and follows up with ground and pound and McCarthy stops it.

WINNER – BRENNAN WARD (12-3) by TKO (punches)

After the fight, Ward put over Olson as a tough opponent and also put over the crowd. Ward falls short of calling out the champion Andrey Koreshkov, even though Jimmy was egging him on to. He just said that if he did get the chance, it would be a great fight.

A prelim bout between Matt Bessette and Kevin Roddy aired next. If you peeked below, you know that Bessette won by submission. What you didn’t know is that he won with an inverted heel hook and Sakuraba got another mention. Bessette has been kicking around the indies for a while now and looked really good here.

Main Event for the Bellator Middleweight Championship Brandon Halsey (9-0) vs Rafael Carvalho (11-1)

Brandon Halsey out to Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider, one of my personal favorite songs of all  time. Dan Miragliotta gets the reffing duties for the main event. Carvalho’s “notable wins” are 1-4 Joe Schilling and everyone’s favorite punching bag Brett Rogers. This may not be much of a contest. Halsey gets a taekdown 10 seconds in. Halsey into mount and an arm triangle choke at 1:15. Carvalho escapes and goes for an inverted triangle but Halsey escapes. Carvalho to his feet and tries to take Halsey down but Halsey ends up on top. Crowd booing 2:30 in. Carvalho to his feet but gets brought right back down at 3:15 and Halsey right into mount. Halsey landing light punches to the head but basically just holding Carvalho down. 10-8 Halsey

Jimmy Smith just mentioned that they’d talked about relaxed 10-8 rules but he “doesn’t know if they’re in effect tonight”. What? Either way, That was a pretty dominant round for Halsey. Cage clinch early in the round and Halsey holds him for over a minute, trying to force a takedown. Halsey backs off at 1:30. Carvalho drops him with a liver kick and follows up with ground and pound but the ref stops  it quickly.

WINNER – RAFAEL CARVALHO (12-1) by KO (liver kick) at 1:42 of the 2nd round

Ward was still down 3 minutes later but got up for the winner’s announcement and seemed okay.

Seth Rollins out 6-9 months with knee injury

July 22, 2020 | News | No Comments

On Thursday, WWE’s injury and superstar woes got even worse as WWE.com announced WWE Champion Seth Rollins tore his right ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus during a match with Kane in Dublin, Ireland, and will be out of action six-to-nine months.

Rollins was doing a power bomb spot out of the corner when his knee buckled and he collapsed. He finished the match but then needed to be helped to the back afterwards.

Because of the severity of the injury, WWE has announced that his scheduled match with Roman Reigns will not take place at November 22nd’s Survivor Series in Atlanta, GA, and he is being stripped of the WWE Title. It appears from the WWE.com story that the plan is to run a tournament at the Survivor Series pay-per-view to crown a new WWE Champion.

With John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and Randy Orton among the major stars on hiatus for various reasons at the moment, the timing of this injury could not be worse. One WWE source noted that some phone calls are likely already being made to some very big names.

Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discuss how the injury happened, how is next in line to be elevated with John Cena, Randy Orton and others gone, and more on Thursday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Live available for members.

Iran’s supreme leader has threatened to pull his country out of the nuclear deal and resume enriching uranium if European countries do not promise to buy Iranian oil and to oppose all new US sanctions against Tehran.

Three days after US secretary of state Mike Pompeo delivered America’s extensive list of demands of Iran for a new nuclear agreement, Ayatollah Khamenei laid out his own demands of European countries for Iran to stay in the 2015 deal.

“If the Europeans hesitate in responding to our demands, Iran is entitled to resuming its nuclear activities,” he said in a statement.

The sweeping demands are likely to be rejected by Britain, France and Germany – diminishing the already narrow hopes of saving of the 2015 nuclear agreement.

The ayatollah made five demands of the European countries.

He called on them to “guarantee the total sales of Iran’s oil”, meaning that Europe must promise to make up for any oil sales from third countries which are cancelled because of US sanctions. Such a guarantee would potentially cost Europe billions of dollars.

Mike Pompeo Iran demands

The ayatollah said European banks “must guarantee business transactions with the Islamic Republic”, even in the face of US sanctions. European banks that continue to deal with Iran in the face of US restrictions could be blacklisted and frozen out of the American financial system.

He called on the Europeans to issue a UN security council resolution condemning Donald Trump’s decision to leave the Iran deal and said Europea “must confront imposition of any sanctions on the Islamic Republic and stand firmly against US sanctions on Iran”.

Finally, he said the Europeans “must guarantee it will not raise the issue of the Islamic Republic’s missiles and regional affairs”.

The ayatollah may have staked out a deliberately maximalist position to give more room for the Iranian foreign minister, Javad Zarif, to appear conciliatory in his own meetings with the Europeans to try to save the nuclear agreement.

Mr Zarif and other reformist figures with the Iranian regime are eager to preserve the deal, while more hardline politicians and elements with the Revolutionary Guard want to see it scrapped. The supreme leader has the final decision.

But if Iran’s real red lines are even close to the sweeping demands made by the ayatollah it is unlikely that the Europeans will be able to satisfy Tehran.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman did not directly address the ayatollah’s demands but said the UK, along with the EU, "continues to view the nuclear deal as a vital factor in our shared security".

"We have raised with the US the need to make allowance for continued economic ties between Europe and Iran to ensure we can meet our obligations under the deal,” a spokeswoman said.

The two positions staked out this week – one by Mr Pompeo and the other by Ayatollah Khamenei – leave a narrow and treacherous path for European diplomats as they try to salvage the 2015 agreement.

Mr Pompeo said the US would inflict the "strongest sanctions in history” on Iran unless it agreed to 12 American demands, including withdrawing from Syria and halting its funding of militant groups like Hizbollah and Hamas.

Iran’s government flatly rejected Mr Pompeo’s list of demands. “Who are you to decide for Iran and the world?” said Hassan Rouhani, the Iranian president.

European countries also expressed scepticism about Mr Pompeo’s plan to merge a nuclear agreement with broader issues about Iran’s missile systems and its behaviour in the Middle East.

Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, said “a new jumbo Iran negotiation” would be very difficult to achieve and said the world should stick with the 2015 agreement instead.
