VIDEO: The Elite appear at Bar Wrestling show

July 10, 2020 | News | No Comments

Following last week’s AEW Double or Nothing rally, The Young Bucks, Cody & Brandi Rhodes, and Hangman Page all showed up at Bar Wrestling’s show in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday night.

The event was headlined by fellow AEW wrestlers SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) facing the RockNES Monsters (Johnny Yuma & Kevin Martenson) & Eric Watts in a six-man tag match. The match led to an angle where Joey Ryan stopped Watts from hitting Sky with a chair, and Page, Cody & Brandi, and The Young Bucks all ended up making saves. Referee Rick Knox counted the pin for SCU after they hit the Best Meltzer Ever.

Page made a save for Ryan, with them teaming up and shaking hands after the storyline on Being the Elite where Page “murdered” Ryan.

SCU, Cody & Brandi, The Young Bucks, Page, and Ryan stayed in the ring after the main event, with Kazarian closing the show by leading the crowd in an “SCU” chant.

The Elite appearing at Bar Wrestling had been teased on Twitter prior to the show.

Video of The Elite’s appearance is available to watch below:

F4W NEWSLETTER: Figure Four Weekly: WWE’s WrestleMania main event decision

While the first women’s WrestleMania main event is all but official at this point, WWE still has a huge decision to make about who will be in it.

In a sense, WWE is playing with house money. Both options that they have are good ones. Whether the main event is Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship or a triple threat between Rousey, Lynch, and Charlotte Flair for the title, it will be the most heated match on the card and fully deserving of its place in the spotlight on WWE’s most important day of the year.

WON NEWSLETTER: February 11, 2019: NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo review, more

I have no idea how this issue got done. I had surgery on my left little finger which was broken in three places on 1/30, and it seemingly went well.

NJPW – New Beginnings: The two nights together did 10,957 paid with one sellout up from 10,002 last year. Tanahashi & Okada as The Dream Team vs. Jay White & Bad Luck Fale did the same as Tanahashi vs. Suzuki did last year for the IC title but paid was much higher this year for Naito vs. Taichi in Taichi’s hometown than for Kenny Omega vs. Jay White for the U.S, title last year, although both were sellouts.

At Smackdown on Tuesday, several talents with contracts coming due were asked to sign new long-term deals after Dean Ambrose told the promotion he wasn’t going to sign a new contract.

Ian Riccaboni signed a new contract with ROH to continue as their play-by-play announcer.

UFC held a press conference today. The big heat seemed to be between Tyron Woodley and Kamaru Usman, building up their Welterweight Title fight at UFC 235 on March 2nd. Jon Jones is facing Anthony Smith on that show.

Conor McGregor will not be fighting Donald Cerrone in April. Khabib still claims he is not fighting for a year.

Jose Aldo defeated Renato Moicano, 44 seconds into the 2nd round. First round was very close. But it was the “old Aldo”, just destroyed him. Aldo is still talking about retiring at the end of this year.

Filthy Tom Lawlor is the new MLW champion defeating Low Ki at their super fight one hour Bein Sports TV special from the 2300 (ECW) Arena in Philadelphia.

It’s been a tough 6 months full of blood, sweat and tears but I wouldn’t change it for the world…even the knee scope in November! I’ve taken the time off to change both physically and mentally, plus I’ve been picking up some extra skills along the way! I’m still a little ways away from returning but every day is better than the last! #ShatteredGlass …just saying”
WWE has filed a trademark for the phrase “Then, Now, Forever” on 2/4, not too long after CBS used a similar phrase during the Super Bowl.

Robert Whittaker’s management team issued a statement on Whittaker not being able to fight at last night’s PPV: “On behalf of Rob, we would like to update fans on his condition. Last night at roughly 9 p.m., Rob began experiencing intense abdominal pains that were brought to the attention of the UFC doctors. After several hours of observation, he was admitted to the hospital at 3 a.m. Rob is just out of dual surgery for a twisted and collapsed bowel in addition to an internal hernia of the intestine and will be recovering in hospital for several days. Rob will want to speak to his fans directly when he can. Rob is devastated that today’s fight will not go ahead. Up until 5 minutes before going into surgery, Rob was insisting he would fight, but advice was that a blow to the stomach could be fatal. Rob will come back stronger and ready for what is to come. Thanks to the UFC, Kelvin and his team for your professionalism.”
Ariel Helwani posted an update on Whittaker: ‘UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker is currently recovering from yesterday’s emergency hernia surgery at a local Melbourne hospital, according to sources. As of now, doctors are hoping he’ll be discharged on Thursday. The surgery lasted three and a half hours, sources said. At the moment, there’s no immediate timetable in place for when he could possibly return to action. It was a serious and complicated surgery, sources said.’
Kelvin Gastelum, who is declaring himself middleweight champion after Robert Whittaker’s injury cancelled their title fight last night confirmed to Brett Okamoto that he is currently suffering from a staph infection.
After losing to Israel Adesanya via unanimous decision, Anderson Silva spoke about wanting to face Nick Diaz at UFC 237 in May: “Maybe I think it makes sense to fight [Nick] Diaz in Curitiba. I’m just waiting for Dana, because it’s not time to make the decisions. Hopefully, I’ll fight in Curitiba.”
Dana White isn’t interested in a fight between Silva and Conor McGregor.
Final ratings won’t be in until Tuesday, but between ESPN and ESPN Deportes the UFC prelims from last night averaged a 1.0 overnight rating. The lead-in was a Duke vs. Virginia college basketball game.

Yes +140 (underdog)
No -200 (favorite)

Lesnar is ranked #8, replacing Mark Hunt, who lost to Lesnar at UFC 200. Hunt is now #9.

– Lesnar’s return fight was originally labeled a “one-off” by WWE, but Lesnar is technically still an active member of the UFC roster. Therefore, he is still subject to routine drug-testing, reports MMAFighting.com.

WWE’s Battleground PPV produced interesting social media activity Sunday night…

WWE PPV Social Media Tracking

– July 24: Battleground ranked #1 in Nielsen’s Twitter TV Ratings Sunday night with the following metrics.

Battleground generated 311,000 tweets from 49,000 unique authors, for an average of 6.3 tweets per person.

Last month, Nielsen did not release metrics for Money in the Bank to compare to the previous PPV.

Going back to Extreme Rules in May, Battleground attracted fewer unique authors, but there was a significant jump in total tweets.

It points to Battleground not drawing in more people than usual talking about the PPV, but the people who were drawn in tweeted more about the show.

2016 WWE PPVs – Tweet Per Person

Royal Rumble: 5.5
Fast Lane: 5.3
Payback: 5.7
Extreme Rules: 5.4
Battleground: 6.3

Nielsen did not release date for WrestleMania or Money in the Bank.

New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley returned to Full Sail University for an appearance at Wednesday night’s NXT television tapings.

After becoming WWE’s first Women’s Tag Team Champions of this era at Elimination Chamber, Banks & Bayley showed up and cut a promo in the ring at the NXT tapings. Banks & Bayley spoke about NXT being where they came from, and they reiterated that their titles will be defended on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. They challenged the teams in NXT to step up.

Bayley mentioned that the last time Banks was in an NXT ring was for their Iron Woman match at TakeOver: Respect in October 2015. Bayley’s last NXT match was at TakeOver: Brooklyn II in August 2016.

The Women’s Tag Team titles being defended on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT was confirmed during Banks & Bayley’s promo this Monday night. That segment on Raw led to them being interrupted by Nia Jax & Tamina, with Banks & Bayley fighting them off before they could get into the ring.

A.J. Styles captured his first major singles title in WWE in the main event of the Backlash PPV.

Styles is new WWE World Hvt. champion after defeating Dean Ambrose in a 25-minute main event on Sunday night.

Styles used heel tactics – a low blow behind the ref’s back – to set up the Styles Clash to get the win.

Styles came to WWE at the beginning of the year fresh off an IWGP World Hvt. Title run in New Japan. Now, eight months after debuting in WWE’s Royal Rumble, Styles is a top champion in WWE.

WWE’s top champions are now Styles and Kevin Owens, who holds the Universal Title on Raw.

A luxury beach resort in the southern Philippines has won plaudits on the internet for telling “self-proclaimed” social media influencers to stop asking for freebies and get a job.

“We are receiving many messages regarding collaborations with influencers, Instagram influencers. We kindly would like to announce that White Banana is not interested to “collaborate” with self-proclaimed “influencers”,” said the White Banana Beach Club Siargao, in a Facebook post that has since gone viral.

“And we would like to suggest to try another way to eat, drink, or sleep for free. Or try to actually work,” it added.

The post has chalked up 9,600 likes since Tuesday, with many comments applauding the club’s stance and pointing out that the resort, which sits on white sands in Surigao del Norte, the southern Philippines, appeared to be adept at raising its own profile.

“Whoever is curating your social media accounts, is actually doing an amazing job. Kudos to you for standing up to that "self proclaimed influencer" who wanted to rip you off,” said one comment by Rhya Regondola.

However, some defended the professional influencers as dedicated individuals who “work their asses off to give their followers the best content.”

Others expressed anger at the post.  “HOW ABOUT THE INNOCENT INFLUENCERS who is (sic) now affected because of this shaming you did? you spoke and attacked everyone. Saying that "or try to actually work…" isn’t that insulting?” asked one woman under the name of Marjorie Liwag, demanding an apology.

The resort later clarified that “we are not against INFLUENCERS. Just against freeloaders”. But it couldn’t resist another dig by announcing the creation of a new bourbon-based beach bar cocktail named “The Influencer”, crafted “to please your tongue and warm up your hearts".

The debate recalls a similar social media storm that divided the internet last year when the owner of Dublin’s White Moose Café and Charleville Lodge called out an Instagram influencer who had asked for a complimentary stay in exchange for videos and posts on her Instagram account.

When many social media users rallied in her support, the hotel owner issued a sarcastic apology to bloggers.

“If each one of you is pissed off, and you all have your individual following…there is a fair chance that you will all speak badly to your followers about us which will result in a huge number of people hearing about our brand collectively,” he said.
