An NXT UK vs. NXT tag match has been added to PROGRESS Wrestling’s show at Alexandra Palace next month.

WWE announced today that Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) will face Matt Riddle & Keith Lee at PROGRESS Chapter 95: Still Chasing. The show is taking place at Alexandra Palace in London, England on Sunday, September 15.

Bate & Seven are former PROGRESS Tag Team Champions.

Riddle and Seven both previously held the Atlas Championship. The Atlas title was unified with the PROGRESS World Championship when WALTER defeated Seven this May.

PROGRESS’ first show at Alexandra Palace — called Chase the Sun — was held in 2017.

WALTER will defend the PROGRESS Unified World Championship against David Starr at Still Chasing. Meiko Satomura will challenge for the PROGRESS Women’s Championship, which is currently held by Jordynne Grace. There will also be a rumble match to crown the first Proteus Champion. The Proteus Champion will be able to pick the rules for their title defenses.

Pete Dunne makes his return to PROGRESS at Still Chasing. The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) will also defend their PROGRESS Tag Team titles.

Dustin Rhodes has signed a contract extension with AEW.

AEW issued a press release announcing the news today. It’s a multi-year extension, though the exact length of the deal wasn’t revealed.

Dustin will be an in-ring wrestler for AEW and is also joining their coaching staff as a promo coach and match producer.

Dustin has had two matches for AEW thus far. After losing a brother vs. brother matchup against Cody at Double or Nothing, The Young Bucks defeated Cody & Dustin in the main event of Fight for the Fallen.

“Dustin Rhodes has had an incredible wrestling career that has spanned decades. His amazing journey brought him to AEW, and he’s rejuvenated his career here. In addition to all of the wisdom he’s shared with us as we’ve launched All Elite Wrestling, he’s come here and worked so hard for us. His comeback match against his brother Cody at Double or Nothing was one of the most acclaimed bouts in recent years, and it marked a new chapter for all of us,” AEW president and CEO Tony Khan said.

“Dustin and I had agreed weeks ago after Fight for the Fallen that we both wanted him to stay with All Elite Wrestling. He’s already done so much for us, and I’m thrilled that it’s official now that Dustin will be on our team going forward, both backstage and in the ring!”

Dustin joined AEW after being granted his release from WWE earlier this year.

“SOMETHING TO WRESTLE WITH” LIVE EVENT
SEPTEMBER 23, 2017
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. AT THE REGENT THEATER
REPORT BY TYSON NELSON, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT

I went to the “Something to Wrestle With” Live show at the Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles with Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson.
The Regent Theater is a small older theater in Downtown L.A.. It is used for different types of events. There’s a small stage but no built-in seats. They had maybe 200-250 folded seats for everyone – that is about what the venue can hold. It was standing room only so they sold well.
I did not buy the VIP tickets, which came with a meet and greet with Conrad and Bruce plus a lanyard ticket and a beer cozy. It appeared I was one of a few who did not do VIP. Most people had the lanyard, beer cozy, and signed pictures.
The event started at 7 p.m. I entered theater around 6:30 p.m.. Conrad and Bruce were still doing the meet and greet near the small bar at back of theater.
The event started just after 7 p.m. They went right to questions from audience.
Mae Young gives birth
The first question was whose idea was Mae Young giving birth to a hand?  At that point they brought on former wwe writer Tommy Blanchard (not positive that was his last name, but it sounded something similar to that).  Tommy stated he was the idea man behind “Sexual Chocolate” with Mark Henry and the Mae Young storyline. During a meeting with Vince, Vince asked what was next for storyline and Tommy threw out idea that Mae gets pregnant and Vince loved it.
At another meeting, Vince stated this pregnancy has to end so they debated what to do. Vince left room and returned with a hand from props and said this is what Mae would give birth too. Tommy played the doctor onscreen for that scene.
Tommy replaces Russo
Tommy next told story of how he was just working for WWE for a few weeks and decided he did not like it and wanted to return to LA but Vince Russo convinced him to stay until the next day for TV. At that next taping, McMahon told him Russo and Ed Ferrera quit and Tommy needed to help Vince write the show so they wrote it on a yellow legal pad. Tommy joked that he called his girlfriend back in LA that and said “Well, I guess I’m a high level executive for a wrestling company I won’t be home for awhile so you can break up with me if you want.” Tommy worked for WWE for a year.
Katie Vick

Bruce was asked about Katie Vick storyline. He stated that Bruce, Triple H, Vince, and crew went to an actual funeral home to film the scene of Katie’s funeral. There was a real wake going on in a room next to them.

Triple H and Bruce wanted an over-the-top funny “lighthearted necrophilia.”  Vince wanted Triple H to play it straight and just do her hardcore. Vince stated they would film it both ways. Of course they did Vince’s first and Triple H tried to play it so over-the-top that Vince couldn’t air it. Vince loved it and didn’t want to film anymore. Bruce stated three crew members quit after working on that scene.

Backstage when the scene aired, Triple H was asking Bruce, “What the f— do I say after this?”

HBK vs. Hogan

Bruce was asked about the HBK vs. Hulk Hogan match and the backstage response to it. Bruce stated he thought match was great. Conrad pressed Bruce, but Bruce didn’t say anything. Crowd was disappointed by no backstage gossip.
Chavo Guerrero Jr.
Chavo Guerrero Jr came on stage. He looked great. He told stories about to the Kerwin White character where Vince told him he wanted him to “turn white.”  Chavo said if he was going to do it he wanted to go all the way and wear a white hood and everything.
Another really good point Chavo made was that the creative team didn’t write for the undercard guys. They wrote for Cena, etc. Undercard guys had to pitch their own ideas if they wanted a storyline. He gave an example of the lying and cheating gimmick with Eddie. It was their idea to do this as heels. Vince loved it. Vince wanted their finisher to be the double frog splash. He felt that finisher ruined gimmick because it turned them babyfaces.
Chavo and Bruce told some Eddie stories. The Judgment Day ’04 match between JBL and Eddie was called entirely by Eddie in the ring because the guys did not like any layout by the agents.
J.R. calls Sunny’s porn
The best bit of the night was when the crowd asked Bruce to have J.R. call Sunny’s porn. Bruce had cut out heads of all his characters he impersonates. He called Sunny’s porn with J.R.’s voice. Some of the funny lines: “He’s going down on her but he’s having a hard time because it’s tougher than a $2 steak down there.” And, “By gawd, this man has a family!”
X-Pac guests
X-Pac next came on stage with his little dog Lula. X-Pac looked good and healthy. He told story about the plane ride from hell. X-Pac cut off Michael Hayes’ ponytail on a flight. He joked about it on the plane and Jerry Lawler and the rest of the guys told him he didn’t have the balls. He asked for scissors. Matt Hardy had the scissors. He stated everyone gathered around to watch and as he cut off the ponytail the guys popped “louder than a Road Warriors pop in the ’80s.”
When they landed, Hayes freaked out and wanted to know who cut his hair and he wanted to fight him. Gerry Brisco just stated he cut the hair knowing Michael would not fight him.
X-Pac told story of defecating in Sable’s bag just before going out to wrestle Shane McMahon and he still is nervous everytime he sees Brock. He says JBL took blame for the bag and JBL never denied it.
They also told some Bobby the Brain stories. And Will Sasso made an appearance where he and Bruce did impressions-off. It was pretty funny.
Overall a fun show. Bruce commands a room. It lasted two hours and general admission ticket was $35.

Update —

ROH has also announced that Silas Young & Vinny Marseglia will face The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser & Brawler Milonas) in a Bar Room Brawl at Death Before Dishonor. The updated card is:

ROH World Champion Matt Taven defending against Rush
ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes defending against LifeBlood (Bandido & Mark Haskins)
ROH Television Champion Shane Taylor defending against Flip Gordon and Tracy Williams in a triple threat match
Women of Honor World Champion Kelly Klein defending against Angelina Love
PCO vs. Kenny King in a Final Battle number one contender’s tournament first round match
Marty Scurll vs. Colt Cabana in a Final Battle number one contender’s tournament first round match
Jay Lethal vs. Jonathan Gresham
Silas Young & Vinny Marseglia vs. The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser & Brawler Milonas) in a Bar Room Brawl

Original —

ROH has confirmed two more additions to the card for Death Before Dishonor.

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham will face off at the pay-per-view. The Women of Honor World Championship match for the event has also been announced, with Kelly Klein set to defend her title against Angelina Love.

Lethal & Gresham lost to Silas Young & Josh Woods on the final night of ROH’s Global Wars Espectacular tour on Sunday. Young went to use a steel chair but was caught by referee Todd Sinclair. As Sinclair was distracted, Gresham tried to get Lethal to use a chair against Woods. Lethal refused to use the chair, and Young soon pinned him after hitting Misery.

Lethal and Gresham argued after the match and got into a pull-apart brawl. ROH then posted video of a backstage interview with Lethal. He said that Gresham is on the wrong path and the only thing he can think of that would help is settling things in the ring at Death Before Dishonor.

Love pinned Klein during a tag match at June’s Best in the World PPV after Mandy Leon hit Klein with a shoe. Klein teamed with Stacy Shadows against Love & Leon at Sunday’s Global Wars Espectacular show. Klein got the win by pinning Love, but Leon sprayed hair spray in Klein’s eyes after the match. Love then laid Klein out with a DDT.

Death Before Dishonor is taking place at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, September 27.

The following are highlights of The Miz on “The Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast.” The excerpts were provided by the show’s producers to PWTorch.com…

Miz on the Lavar Ball Family Not Rehearsing, Using Racial Slur:

Miz: This was the first time that Lonzo Ball would be at the Staples Center as a Los Angeles Laker, so I walk in to their dressing room to go over their script, it’s kind of a baseline do you want to go over it and LaVar says ‘we are good,’ so I guess we are going to wing it out there, sounds good

SR: So, when LaVar started coming at you and he takes his shirt off, because it felt in that moment that was not something that was pre-planned.

Miz: No, it was not planned at all and I was like, I will just let him do his thing and people will talk about it months on and I swear to you that is one of the number one questions I get asked is about LaVar Ball. People say they can’t stand him but he knows how to create drama and I applaud him for it, you love to hate him but you will talk about him

SR: How do you react in your own head when that little kid drops the N bomb in the middle of live TV.

Miz: I didn’t hear it, there’s so much going on, and I think it was during Dean Ambrose’s music. In the ring sometimes you can’t even hear the person speaking to you. I am really good lip reader a lot of the times.”

Miz on trying to work Maryse’s pregnancy into TV promos even more

SR: I’ve always liked it when wrestlers use their personal lives and inject it. Was there any part of you that didn’t want to talk about your unborn child?

Miz: No, I wanted to use it more. I thought it was really cool that we could go in the ring and announce to the world in front of a huge worldwide audience that Maryse is pregnant and I came up with this huge storyline where we are pregnant. How terrible would I be as a guy? But no, Maryse is still doing Total Divas and she is loving it.

SR: Is she in the same camp as you and wants to put it on TV?

Miz: Yeah, she is always onboard with whatever. She thought it was hilarious. Obviously, WWE is dangerous. As much as we sit there and look at it we always tell people not to do it at home we just said you take it easy we will do Total Divas every Wednesday on E.”

Miz on WrestleMania with John Cena in 2017 vs 2011

SR: When you talk about experiencing where you are and being an elite athlete, how different was it working with John Cena at this year’s WrestleMania than six years ago?

Miz: So, six years ago I would say, it’s not that I wasn’t ready, but I have so much more confidence than I did then, now. You live and you learn and it’s through the learning process now I know that even when you don’t have a title you have to remain main event level and don’t allow anything to hinder that. Before I would be like I can get this done. Now I am thinking how do I get people to look at me as elite and I think I have been proving myself and making memorable moments watching the show and making the Intercontinental Title the most prestigious it’s ever been. That’s been my goal since winning it, how can I make it how it used to be. When I was growing up, the Ultimate Warrior was on the same level as Hulk Hogan who was the World Champion and, right now, what singles title do you see every week on Raw? The Intercontinental Championship.

A six-man tag match looks to have been added to the lineup for this week’s NXT.

WWE posted a video today where WALTER challenged Kushida to find two partners and face Imperium in a six-man tag this Wednesday. This will be the second episode of NXT since it moved to being a live two-hour show.

On NXT’s live premiere last week, there was an angle where Imperium’s Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner & Alexander Wolfe took out Denzel Dejournette before he was scheduled to face Kushida. WALTER then joined his stablemates, but his promo was interrupted by Kushida. Kushida avoided Imperium’s attacks and fought them off.

WWE hasn’t announced which three Imperium members will be taking part in the six-man tag match.

The segment with Imperium and Kushida was part of the second hour of last week’s NXT. This Wednesday’s show will again air live on USA Network for the first hour and then switch to streaming live on the WWE Network for the second hour. NXT will move to airing live on USA for both hours starting on Wednesday, October 2.

Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain in a street fight, Dominic Dijakovic vs. Keith Lee, and the return of Dakota Kai have been announced for this week’s NXT. The winner of Riddle vs. Dain will become the number one contender to Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.

He said he’s glad he played football despite his resulting CTE issues, but added “there’s something intrinsically wrong with a sport, at least it is right now, where you lose your marbles somewhere down the line”. The following are highlights of Triple H’s media conference call after NXT Takeover Brooklyn IV, as quoted and paraphrased by PWTorch editor Wade Keller…

-Triple H introduced the conference call and said he thinks they had a phenomenal night. He touted that four years in they sold out on the first of four nights back to back. He said it was the highest grossing NXT event they’ve ever done, completely sold out with roughly 14,700.

-He said there were a couple of injuries and he hoped nothing too serious. He said Johnny Gargano might have dislocated his knee and EC3 was a bit dinged up.

-When asked about the WrestleMania weekend and new competition at MSG, Triple H said it doesn’t change anything. “To me this is about every time you get a chance at the plate, you swing for the fences. You do it every time. I’m confident about this brand. I’ll put this brand and these athletes up against anything in the world. Fans will go see what they want to see, and when the smoke clears, I put my card up against anybody’s top to bottom, anyone in the world.

-When asked what’s next for the brand, Triple H said they want to continue doing what they’re doing, including creating talent. He if you look at the main roster, and the Women’s Revolution/Evolution, it’s the driving force behind it. He said where it goes next is trying to always deliver what they have now. He mentioned NXT UK as another stage moving forward. He said he thinks the brand will tour more.

-He said the only thing that’s developmental about NXT is that there are people learning how to do things from a production standpoint. He said what they did tonight doesn’t appear to be developmental, nor does the touring. “It’s the third brand, and that third brand will continue to grow and push, and that competition is good because it will make everybody step up to another level. That high tide will rise all ships and there is room for all of it.” He said he can go down a list of a lot of stuff that wasn’t on the card that could have been. He said if you add Keith Lee and Matt Riddle and the Mae Young Classic talent, there’s an abundance and wealth of talent waiting for their shot at the plate, which pushes everybody to be better.

He said some people like college football better than the NFL because there is turnover and guys come and go. “I think very soon there’s a potential to reach a period of time when something like a draft happens of a Superstar Shake-up, there could be some call-ups, but I think they’ll be seen more as ‘move overs.’ Maybe then the whole thing is structured differently.” He said there are guys in the Performance Center doing more than just learning how to take tackles, such as strength and conditioning and just becoming a better all-around athlete. He suggested some main roster guys could come to NXT, train at the Performance Center, rest from the schedule, let them thrive there, or send them to a brand in another country. “Really, if you look at the business as what it is now, but if it was all meaningful everywhere, and you could shift and move do things, there’d still be the bigger drivers of Raw and Smackdown always, but it wouldn’t be seen as this crazy demotion to go somewhere else.” He said he sees that now where it used to be a call-up and now it’s not being drafted, but more moving teams. “For me, in my head, that’s what I see the long-term goal is.”

-Regarding which of the three Gargano-Ciampa matches, which surprised him the most in terms of what they got out of it. Triple H said none of them surprised him. He said he loves challenging talent to go to places that aren’t necessarily their comfort zones with storytelling. He said each of the matches have gone to different places to tell the arc of the story. He said it’s not easy to go three times back-to-back main event telling a story like they are. He said getting it to be better than the next one or at least different is a challenge and an art form. He said they’ve grown as performers as a result. “It’s really cool watching them go through that,” he said. He noted that Shawn Michaels works with them a lot, and their growth comes from the nuance of storytelling, some of which might be easy to miss but is there.

He said regarding Gargano’s knee, “Technically that was supposed to go slightly differently than it all did. We kind of had to make a call on the fly and change a few things in the actual moment so it ended up being different. The truth is no one knows the difference because only the people putting it together knew what was different. That’s the beauty of what we do.” He said a wise man used to tell him if you can get 70 percent of what you have in your head on TV is a grand slam. He imitated Dusty Rhodes’s voice as he said it. “You have to be willing to accept it’s not going to be the movie you watch in your brain, and it’s going to be slightly different. You envision it one way, but I always try to remember that.” He said Gargano and Ciampa got a lot more than 70 percent out of it.

-Regarding Matt Riddle, he joked about his clothes and shoes. He said he’s smart in how he has adapted what he did in his MMA career to pro wrestling. He said he’s watched his ups and downs for a while and there comes a time when somebody gets good enough. He said they go through a period where they see someone who is good, but they decide they’re good doing what they’re doing and continue doing that outside of WWE/NXT and then revisit them once they reach another level. He said they don’t want to leave someone out there too long to stagnate or regress or start settling and coming up short of being big box office. He said they jump in and try to get to them while they’re growing and not learning bad habits. He said there’s a lot of talent they are interested in and have spoken to, but they tell them to keep doing what they’re doing. He said Matt has come a long way and he thinks he has matured as a person, “which we’ll find out.” He said he thinks he’s realized where he wants to get to in the business as opposed to just having fun in the business. “We think it’s the right time, but time will tell,” he said. He said sometimes people think people come in and they just go with it, but not everything works and there’s a lot of factors. He said he believes in his potential, “but like with anyone else, we’ll see.”

-Regarding Ricochet, he said, “He’s like a human CGI film.” He said he and Shawn were at the Performance Center and Hunter suggested Ricochet just leap over the top rope and not touch anything and land on his feet, and he was kidding, but Ricochet shrugged and did it. He said Ricochet can’t make it look too easy, though, because that doesn’t look right. He said it’s supposed to look like a fight, not a dance. He said it should look like a grind. He said Shawn could make things that were easy look difficult because it was the grit and the fight that made the art work. He said he hasn’t seen Ricochet get pushed like he was tonight, and he said that’s a testament to how good Adam Cole is. He said Cole can do just about anything on the mic and in the ring. He said Ricochet’s performance, thanks to Cole in part, made it look like he earned his win and didn’t just glide to it.

-Regarding Velveteen Dream’s tights saying “Call me up, Vince,” Triple H joked he didn’t mean Vince McMahon. Hunter said he didn’t see his trunks until he wore them out there. He said maybe he should have known ahead of time. He said there are two types of calls someone can get when they say that, and one is good and one isn’t.

-He said regarding Evolution, the NXT brand will be represented, and the Mae Young Classic finals will also take place. He said there will be a lot of women who were part of the journey to where it is today. He said the time is right now, and maybe the time wasn’t right years ago. He said fans might not have embraced it back then the way it’s being presented and pushed today. He said the growth of Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane has been amazing in a short time. He said Baszler has gone from ground zero to being a great performer to the point “I might be the most afraid of her on the entire roster.” He said their match tonight was great. He said there’s a wealth of talent in the women’s division and “what’s next” is whatever the women want it to be. He said the crowds are willing to accept it and embrace it, so now is the time.

-When asked what the next main event feud will be in NXT, Triple H said, “whatever resonates most.” He said they have an unsolved mystery, and that has to play itself out. “You just have to mess with things and see where things go,” he said. He said he wouldn’t have envisioned DIY getting to this point. He said Ciampa is in a different stratosphere now than where he was not that long ago. “What I think today is irrelevant to how much they grow tomorrow, and that changes everything,” he said. “It’s a work in progress every single day.”

-Regarding Moustache Mountain, he said they could end up in NXT UK and NXT’s main brand. He said even though they lost tonight, they got themselves over so no one lost and it was real progress for both teams.

-Regarding Aleister Black’s injury, Triple H said he’s not cleared and it’s a day-to-day thing. He said he’s not sure and doesn’t want to speculate because “it’s a doctor thing.”

-He said Gargano, Ciampa, and Black are leaders in the locker room. He said he looks for that. He said not everyone is. “I look for the people who are going to help others, who wants to be part of the solution, not the problem. The business used to be a lot different.” He said if someone was talented, you would put up with a lot because they couldn’t afford to lose them, but there’s a lot of talent now. “I put as much stock into them as human beings and how they interact on a day to day basis as I do their talent in the ring. Somebody can be really talented, but not be the right human being, not the right support system for everyone else, be the fly in the ointment, and then I don’t want them there; I don’t care how talent they are. It’s all long-term potential, so go be really talented somewhere else if you’re going to mess up my locker room now.” He said he won’t let anyone mess up the culture of his NXT locker room. “Nobody,” he said. He again emphasized that Ciampa and Gargano at the top in that regard and have earned that trust. The people who earn his trust “get the ball.”
