In the latest development as a result of the #SpeakingOut movement, Impact Wrestling announced Monday night that Joey Ryan and Dave Crist are no longer with the company while Michael Elgin has been suspended.

Impact released the following statement to the Observer:

“Impact Wrestling confirms that it has terminated its contracts with Dave Crist and Joey Ryan, effective immediately. In addition, it has suspended Michael Elgin pending further review of allegations of misconduct.”

This follows a Friday statement where Impact’s parent company Anthem Sports & Entertainment said they were reviewing all incidents.

Elgin was scheduled to compete for the company’s world title at July’s Slammiversary in a five-way intergender match featuring champion Tessa Blanchard, Eddie Edwards, Ace Austin, and Trey Miguel, while PWInsider reported that the six-man tag between Cancel Culture (Ryan, Rob Van Dam, Jacob Crist) vs. Crazzy Steve and two mystery partners has been edited off Tuesday’s edition of Impact.

Earlier Monday, it was reported that Ryan’s Bar Wrestling has been shut down as its owner was accused of sexual assault and harassment by several women over the past few days. After apologizing and attempting to explain his personal situation went over poorly on social media, Ryan deactivated his Twitter account as well as Bar Wrestling’s. Crist and Elgin have yet to comment publicly about the accusations of abusive treatment to women in the industry.

TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
Renee Young, Paige, Ember Moon, and Beth Phoenix are the panel for tonight’s all-women’s episode of WWE Backstage. Sonya Deville is also appearing on the show as a guest. WWE’s Evolution PPV from 2018 began airing on FS1 at 7 p.m. Eastern time leading into Backstage. Young, Paige, and special guests will also do a watch party for Evolution on FOX Sports’ social platforms starting at 9 p.m. Eastern.
In an interview with ESPN, Edge spoke about his reaction to finding out about the “Greatest Match Ever” tagline for his match against Randy Orton at Backlash: “I just laughed because I didn’t think it was serious. Then I realized fairly quickly it was. Then my reaction was, is this wise, because anytime you say something’s the greatest ever beforehand, you’re setting yourself up for failure. And I don’t ever want to think that way. I need to think the opposite of that. I can’t control the court of public opinion. I need to do and be proud of the work that I put in. All I can do is take it as if this is all just a bonus and in a weird way, a compliment. Or it’s a giant rib. I don’t know.”
Edge also explained why he doesn’t feel pressure because of the tagline: “I’ll preface all of this with saying there’s no such thing as the greatest match ever. You’re not going to be able to say definitively, what is the greatest song of all time? What is the greatest painting of all time? What is the greatest movie of all time? What is the greatest band of all time? It’s impossible, because there’s no general consensus — you can have great matches, but what is the greatest is going to be different to almost everybody. Vince [McMahon] is a promoter, and he’s promoting, but it’s like hyperbole. I mean, to me [the greatest match is] not possible. So that takes that pressure out of my mind immediately.”
WWE released an advertisement for this week’s NXT questioning what the start of Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship reign will mean for the future of Charlotte Flair. The commercial also asks if anyone can stop Karrion Kross. Two matches have been announced for the show, with NXT Champion Adam Cole facing Dexter Lumis in a non-title match and Finn Balor taking on Cameron Grimes.
Asuka congratulated Shirai on her title win.
Matt Riddle spoke to Talksport about ideas he had for potentially working with Kurt Angle: “You know what crossed my mind originally [with Kurt Angle]? There’s the management thing, but then like in my head — and maybe this is just greedy me — in my head, when I see Kurt Angle, even if I like him and I’m friendly with him, I know the money is in beating up Kurt Angle. I was really hoping he was going to cost me the cage match and then the Bro was going to snap and beat up Kurt Angle! Some deadlift Germans to an Olympic gold medallist from the Stallion? You telling me everybody at home wouldn’t be like ‘no he didn’t just dump him on his head!’ — because that’s what I do! It would have been crazy. Or, he could have managed me and then we had the back and forth with Baron Corbin because Corbin ended his career and this is the new phase, [he’s like] ‘this is my bro.’ And then I go on to beat the crap out of Corbin — which I would — that would have been pretty cool too. But I’ll say this, even if Kurt is not there and I still beat the crap out of Corbin, that’s still pretty cool too. It’s all good!”
Author Abraham Riesman told Slam Wrestling about the Vince McMahon biography he’s working on: “I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have the opportunity to write this book. I am fascinated by Vince McMahon and his place in both the culture and politics of contemporary America, and I hope I can provide readers with a window into him and his impact. Readers can expect a thoroughly researched chronicle and analysis of Vince’s life, built on interviews, documents, and footage. I’m hoping to grab wrestling fans, of course, but I also want to make the book readable for laypeople who just want a cracking good yarn about a significant and mysterious figure.”
Dakota Kai confirmed that her pink hair at TakeOver: In Your House was a tribute to Hana Kimura.
Wrestle Joy has a conversation with Drew McIntyre.
WWE Shop released a new Pride Fighter T-shirt for Sonya Deville that was designed by Urban Aztec.
In an extra clip from the WWE 24 episode on Ric Flair, Triple H discussed having to tell Flair that his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech was going too long.

Game Changer Wrestling announced that Backyard Wrestling 2 will take place on July 4. The show will be available live via Fite TV.
This week’s episode of ROH Week By Week ended with a brief promo where Jay White said he hasn’t forgotten about Marty Scurll or the challenge Scurll issued to him. The two were supposed to face off at Supercard of Honor XIV in April before that event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Talk N’ Shop A-Mania will take place on August 1.
Darby Allin posted a video of him jumping off a balcony into a pool. Allin also skated with Tony Hawk.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Ali Abdelaziz said that Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap has shown some improvement after being hospitalized last month: “Khabib is very strong, his family is very strong and his father is very strong. He’s improving. He opened his eyes, responding a little bit — good sign. Allah is in control. We have faith he will be better, but at the end of the day, it’s completely up to his health, whether it progresses or not. But he’s progressing, and we’re very happy about this.”
Dana White got into a debate about fighter pay with former NFL player and former NFL Players Association president Domonique Foxworth while appearing on ESPN’s First Take today.
Nate Diaz responded to the UFC’s announcement of Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns for UFC 251: “This is what’s wrong with people claiming they’re fighters settling for less cause they know they’re not worth sh*t you should’ve fought the next guy in line not the guy who would take less cause he’s told too that’s why no one will remember youguys This isn’t a title fight.” Diaz also wrote: “I get paid more than both of you together + F*CK REEBOK”
Sean O’Malley thinks there’s no way that Cody Garbrandt would take a fight against him: “There is no way that he takes that fight. There’s no way he takes that fight. It’s a lose-lose for him. One, he’s probably going to get knocked out. And two, he’s fighting someone that has a lot of hype, but if he beats me people will say, ‘Oh, but he’ … it’s a lose-lose for him, I feel like, so I’m sure they would avoid that fight.”
Henry Cejudo appeared on the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show.

Playing off a forgotten angle from Monday Night Raw more than a decade ago, Mike Tyson and Chris Jericho were involved in a pull-apart angle on last night’s AEW Dynamite.

Jericho called an end to The Inner Circle’s pep rally and demanded Tyson’s head be delivered to him on a platter. Tyson then entered with an entourage.

Dynamite was also notable for the long-awaited AEW debut of FTR. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler saved The Young Bucks from an attack at the hands of The Butcher and The Blade.

The next challenger for Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship made his Dynamite debut as Brian Cage defeated Lee Johnson. Taz then called out Moxley in a strong promo segment.

Jungle Boy won a number one contender’s battle royal for a shot at the TNT Championship. Earlier on the show, Cody cut a promo discussing the importance of the TNT title and issued a weekly open challenge for the championship.

In the women’s division, new AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida had her first match since winning the title, while Britt Baker addressed her injury status and her recovery timetable.

Apollo Crews will get another shot at Andrade.

It was announced on Raw tonight that Apollo Crews will face Andrade for the WWE United States title. Crews returned to television tonight, attacking Andrade during a Kevin Owens Show segment. That eventually led to a tag team match, pitting Crews and Kevin Owens against Andrade and Angel Garza, with Crews scoring the victory for his team.

Backstage, Crews told Charly Caruso that he will challenge Andrade again for the United States title next week. Zelina Vega appeared and told Apollo to walk away with the one good knee he had. Crews said he’d become the new United States champion next week.

Crews was written off TV for several weeks following an in-storyline injury suffered at the end of a United States match against Andrade. The injury was severe enough that the match had to be stopped.

As a result of the injury, Crews had to forfeit his spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match. He would later be replaced by AJ Styles.

Angela Merkel was sworn in for a fourth term as German chancellor on Wednesday almost six months after suffering damaging losses in elections.

Mrs Merkel won a vote of confidence in parliament just over a week after securing a deal to form a new coalition after Germany endured almost six months without a government.

For the first time Mrs Merkel’s notoriously publicity-shy husband, Prof Joachim Sauer, attended the vote in parliament. But the quantum chemist, who watched Mrs Merkel’s previous swearing-in ceremonies on television from his university lab, brought along a lap-top so he could continue working.

Merkel, wearing a necklace in the national colours black-red-gold, beamed with joy and relief as applause filled the Bundestag chamber, where her 89-year-old mother Herlind Kasner was also among the well-wishers.

Her reappointment means that Germany has an elected government for the first time in almost half a year, and she lost no time in making it clear she intends to get back to business.

Profile | Angela Merkel

She is to travel to Paris on Friday for talks with President Emmanuel Macron as the two leaders seek to restore the Franco-German axis as the main driving force in the European Union.

But Mrs Merkel returns to power with her authority diminished after the longest period of coalition negotiations in postwar Germany history.

“Welcome to the new government, but it was about time,” President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said at a ceremony to swear Mrs Merkel and her new ministers into office.

“It’s good that the time of uncertainty and doubt is over. It’s good that the parties are ready and willing to form a government,” said the president, who was personally instrumental in bringing reluctant coalition partners together for talks.

“The parties that will now govern with each other lost votes in the election, and that’s why a simple reheating of the old will not be enough to regain lost confidence,” he added, in a clear message to Mrs Merkel that it was not simply business as usual for the veteran chancellor. “This government has to prove itself new and different.”

Earlier, there were signs of the rocky path ahead for Mrs Merkel as she only just managed to win a vote of confidence in parliament — and failed to win the support of 35 MPs from her new coalition.

Although there is something of a tradition of maverick MPs voting against their own party on these occasions in Germany, it left her with a majority of just nine votes — something seized on by her critics.

“That was close and is a bad omen. This coalition has got off to a bad start and will not last for three and a half years,” Alexander Mitsch of Mrs Merkel’s own Christian Democrat party (CDU) said.

At a glance | The 27 places ruled by a woman

“There were more dissenting votes than I expected,” Andrea Nahles of Mrs Merkel’s main coalition partner, the centre-Left Social Democrats (SPD) said. But she added: “For us, the matter is closed”.

There was another unsettling omen when a protestor tried to approach Mrs Merkel as she left parliament and had to be wrestled to the ground by police.

A supporter of the Alternative for Germany party (AfD) was expelled from the public gallery for waving a banner that read “Merkel must go”, while one of the party’s MPs was fined €1,000 for breaking parliamentary rules and tweeting his voting slip.

Tyler Breeze pinned Kalisto

We start things off in the ring as Kalisto goes one on one with Prince Pretty. Before going too much on with the match, I should not the production. The arena looked a lot like the NXT Arena, however when they showed the hard camera it barely looked like there were 100 people there, but when they would show a shot of the entire arena you could tell there were about 500-1,000 people.

The fans got into Kalisto, chanting “Lu-cha” and eventually we got the “Breeze is gorgeous” chant. Kalisto went for a Springboard Something, but Breeze hit a beautiful dropkick for a near fall. Kalisto made his comeback, going all Lucha. He hit the hurricarana where Breeze had knelt on the ground, but Breeze kicked out.

Kalisto went for the back handspring kick but Tyler hit the Super Model Kick for a near fall. Not getting the win that time frustrated Breeze. Kalisto hit a 450 Splash and Breeze got his hand on the ropes. Kalisto went for the Salida Del Sol, but Breeze pushed him off and won with a Beauty Shot.

– A video package detailing the Kevin Owens-Alex Riley rivalry aired, which included the build to the Finn Balor match. We should be reminded that next week is the Owens-Balor match.

– Alexa Bliss is excited to be sports entertaining tonight in her hometown.

– A video package on NXT taking over the Arnold Sports Classic. They also visited a local children’s hospital and showed Triple H going into the International Sports Hall of Fame. Original UFC announcer Don “The Dragon” Wilson and former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield were shown looking on. Hey, isn’t he a little too old to be a professional boxer?

– Alex Riley was drinking water backstage when Finn Balor walked up and said he will be watching tonight. Riley said he plans to humiliate the champion.

– Another video, this time of the NXT house show in Cleveland. I can’t help but think they didn’t tape enough stuff for this episode.

Wesley Blake (w/Buddy Murphy) pinned Colin Cassidy (w/Enzo Amore & Carmella)

One of the Naturals jumped over the other one on the way to the ring. The Long Islanders were still super over here in Columbus. Sadly Carmella was still with them, but thankfully the fans still played sing along with Enzo. And yes, these fans also hated Carmella, so I love them already.

Wesley Blake is apparently the blonde haired Natural and his early offense consisted of chops to the bicep of Colin. The fans chanted for Blue Pants. Somewhere in San Antonio, Ed Laredo is smiling. Blake chop blocked Colin to get the heat. Cassidy made his comeback when Murphy jumped on the apron. Colin gave Murphy the boot, which gave Blake the chance to roll up Colin for the win.

– Dana Brooke, one of the women you never see on the show, performed during the Arnold Classic body building contest.

Alexa Bliss defeated Woman’s Champion Sasha Banks by countout

Turns out this is not a title match. If you are going to beat the hometown girl you might as well make it a title match. Sasha had broken Alexa’s nose previously and the story of this match was that Sasha was trying to break it again.

The fans were no more into the hometown girl than they were into any other baby face and actually got less of a response than Sasha. Alexa hit a Thesz Press on the outside, but Sasha pulled her nose-first into the ring apron. Alexa pushed Sasha nose-first into the ring post and got in the ring for a countout win.

The fans, just seeing one of their own win a big match, booed.

– Kevin Owens said he is going to make Alex Riley regret he ever gave up his nice, cushy, announcing job. Owens also pointed out that next week he puts an end to Balor.

– Alexa was happy about winning the match. Sasha walked in and pointed out it was a countout. William Regal walked in and announced a title match for next week. I wonder if Orlando will treat Alexa any better.

NXT Champion Kevin Owens defeated Alex Riley

There was not much to this match. The fans chanted “Kill Owens Kill”, “Owens’ gonna kill you” and “Mr. Wrestling”. Yeah these fans didn’t care about A-Ry much at all. Owens got the heat with a kick to the hamstring and his rolling corner splash. A few minutes later Owens missed a second corner splash and Riley hit a spine buster for a 2 count.

Owens hit three back splashes in the ring and then beat up Riley outside the ring. Back in the ring, Owens won with a Pop Up Power Bomb.

After the match, Owens went to give Riley the Power Bomb into the ring apron when Finn Balor walked out and stopped Kevin, building to their title match next week. Owens was going to do it anyway, so Balor dove off the stage and attacked Kevin. They fought into the ring where Balor hit his corner dropkick before Owens bailed.

That does it for this week. Until next week, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers.

Women in Saudi Arabia do not need to wear traditional black abayas or headscarves, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said, as he tries to burnish his reformist credentials ahead of his first trip to Washington as Saudi heir to the throne.

The 32-year-old prince, who will meet Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, said that Saudis had “come a very long way and have a short way to go” to roll back laws which have restricted Saudi women for decades.

"Saudi women still have not received their full rights. There are rights stipulated in Islam that they still don’t have,” he told CBS News.

“The laws are very clear and stipulated in the laws of sharia: that women wear decent, respectful clothing, like men,” the prince said. “This, however, does not particularly specify a black abaya or a black head cover. The decision is entirely left for women to decide what type of decent and respectful attire she chooses to wear.”

Black abayas, a loose fitting robe, are not mandatory for women in Saudi Arabia but they are so widely worn that they are strongly associated with the conservative kingdom. The prince’s comments will be taken as a sign of his ambitions to further ease Saudi Arabia’s social laws and customs.

Prince Mohammed has pushed through widespread domestic reforms since rising to power, including allowing women to drive from June, attend football games in stadiums, and join the Saudi military.

However, he has not rolled back the country’s male guardianship laws, which make it almost for women to travel, work, or get married without permission from a male relative. Human Rights Watch call the laws “the most significant impediment to women’s rights” in Saudi Arabia.

The meeting between Prince Mohammed and Mr Trump will be their first face to face encounter since the prince usurped his older cousin to become Saudi Arabia’s heir to the throne last June.

He is considered one of the most powerful men in the Middle East and may potentially rule Saudi Arabia for decades once he takes power from his frail 82-year-old father King Salman. “Only death” would stop his reformist mission, the prince said.

While Prince Mohammed is well-liked by the Trump administration, especially for his hawkish tone on Iran and promises to fight Islamist extremism, members of the US congress have voiced serious concerns about his policies ahead of the trip.

A group of Democrat and Republican senators are attempting to halt US support to Saudi Arabia in the war in Yemen, where Saudi-led coalition is bombing a rebel group aligned with Iran.

The war has killed 10,000 civilians and left millions on the brink of famine, with human rights groups blaming Saudi Arabia for much of the suffering. Both the US and UK supply Saudi Arabia with weapons and other support.

The prince said the situation in Yemen was “very painful” but blamed the rebels and Iran for the humanitarian catastrophe.

US senators are also speaking out about Prince Mohammed’s plans to build a nuclear power programmed Saudi Arabia. The prince said the programme is only for civilian purposes but several senators said they feared it could laying the foundation for nuclear weapons development.

“Saudi Arabia has failed to take basic steps that would signal its commitment to use nuclear energy solely for peaceful purposes,” said Edward Markey, a Democrat senator.

Prince Mohammed has said previously that Saudi Arabia would develop a nuclear bomb if its arch-rival Iran was allowed to get one. Analysts have warned that a nuclear arms race between Iran and Saudi Arabia would be a major source of instability in the Middle East.

A South Korean man has been found guilty of attempting to avoid mandatory national service in the military by piling on more than 65lbs in the space of six months.

The 21-year-old man, who has not been named, was given a suspended prison sentence by the Cheongju District Court on Sunday, The Korea Times reported. Standing just over 5 feet 9 inches when he completed high school in February 2016, the man’s weight had ballooned to more than 250lbs by the time he reported for a physical examination prior to entering the armed forces in July.

With a body mass index above 36, he was instead assigned to complete his national service in a civilian post until police opened an investigation.

The court had the power to impose a maximum punishment of five years in prison as South Korean law states that anyone who attempts to get out of the compulsory 20-month military service by fleeing, deliberately causing themselves injury or otherwise avoiding serving can be prosecuted.

There has been an increase in young men attempting to escape the rigours of military service in the South Korean armed forces, the majority motivated by religious reasons or after claiming to be conscientious objectors. By law, neither is a reason for not serving in the military.

Others are put off by reports of the harsh life as a conscript, with bullying rife, time off limited and monthly pay starting at a meagre £97.

In 2014, a 22-year-old sergeant who was just three months short of completing his service snapped at the constant hardship he faced. After completing a night watch over the Demilitarised Zone, the sergeant threw a hand grenade at seven colleagues preparing to go on duty and then emptied his magazine into the injured men. After reloading, he shot two more men as he approached a barracks block and then fired into the unit’s living quarters.

In all, five men were killed and a further seven were injured. Sgt Lim, who was only identified by his surname throughout his subsequent trial, was convicted in February 2015 and sentenced to death.
