– As seen below, ESPN’s Michelle Beadle is backstage at tonight’s WWE RAW with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Triple H noted that they buried the hatchet and have good things in the works.

Beadle tweeted about how she was no longer being a fan of WWE last year after Triple H’s public support of Floyd Mayweather, due to Mayweather abusing women. Beadle said she was a big fan of Triple H’s work as a wrestler but that was it. She wrote:

I’ve loved @WWE for a long time. But @TripleH and his love for a serial abuser is too much. I’m turning in my fan card. #WasFunWhileItLasted

– WWE has a new poll asking fans who WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H least wants to face at WrestleMania 32 – Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose or Roman Reigns. The new WWE website does not show vote counts but Reigns is currently leading with 40% while Lesnar has 37% of the vote.

– As of Thursday, WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch was still hospitalized for abdominal issues. She went in last Monday for a pancreatitis issue and has been kept for additional testing. She said she’s scheduled to have more tests done at a different hospital soon. She also noted that WWE called to check on her health, adding that she doesn’t believe she will be kicked out of the WWE Hall of Fame anytime soon.

Carlos Sainz’s solid Spanish Grand Prix put the McLaren driver back in the points after a two-race draught, a result the Spaniard believes will also be “confidence building” for his team.

A spell of bad luck that included a botched pitstop from his team, a tyre failure in the British Grand Prix and cooling issues at Silverstone’s second race have weighed on Sainz’s recent results.

An engine change in Barcelona solved his MCL35’s cooling problem and allowed Sainz to make it into the Q3 shootout on Saturday.

From P7 on the gird, the McLaren charger held his own among the top ten from where he negotiated the successive tyre rotations without any drama to end his race sixth.

“Eight points! It’s a bit of a relief for me after such a long run of bad luck, but also for the guys it’s a confidence building race, getting the strategy right, the pit stops right,” admitted Sainz.

“I’d like to thank the whole team also because obviously an engine change makes a bit of a difference.

“And today we actually put up a fight with the Racing Points which is a bit surprising because they were very fast out there.

“In the end of the race, we nearly gave them a headache with the lap times we were doing. So happy about that and definitely a confidence building weekend.”

Running an aggressive last sting on the medium tyre, Sainz believes he could have pipped Sergio Perez to fifth, taking into account the five-second penalty handed to the Mexican for a blue-flag violation.

Perez happy with performance, unhappy with ‘harsh’ penalty

But ultimately, the need to lift while he was lapped by runner-up Max Verstappen blew away his chance of a top five result.

“Yeah, we wanted to go on the attack, we were very clear that the hard tyre on our car doesn’t work.

“We wanted to save the medium for the last stint so we went soft/soft and then I had a clean last stint [on the mediums].

“It’s a shame because I just got lapped by Verstappen eight laps to the end, that made me lose two or three seconds which in the end cost me my position with Checo. But still P6 and good points!”

Utah Valley 22, South Dakota State 18

August 16, 2020 | News | No Comments

Jacks edged by Wolverines

The South Dakota State wrestling team battled Utah Valley in numerous matches, but the Wolverines escaped Brookings with a 22-18 win.

The dual was SDSU’s first and only mid-week dual of the season in its third Western Wrestling Conference competition.

The Jacks opened the dual with a lead, as Utah Valley forfeited the opening match at 125 pounds.

Brance Simms lined up versus Chasen Tolbert at 133. Simms scored an early takedown, but allowed an escape takedown in a 30-second span. While on the bottom, Simms turned the tables and forced his back onto the chest of Tolbert and scored the defensive pin.

“The pin was big,” head coach Chris Bono said. “Tolbert beat Simms in Las Vegas, so the improvement is there. The improvement is there throughout the lineup. That is the goal for this season, to get better in every match. Tonight was good and I am proud of our fight. The wins will come.”

At 141 pounds, Ben Gillette faced Avery Garner. Garner took a five-point, first-period lead and Gillette was unable to recover, as Garner pulled away for a 9-2 decision.

In a battle of ranked wrestlers, No. 31 Dustin Walraven wrestled No. 22 Josh Wilson at 149. The match was closer than the scoreboard indicated, but Wilson used a pair of third-period takedowns and riding time to score a 12-4 major decision.

Utah Valley took its first lead of the dual after a pin at 157 pounds. The result took the teams to intermission.

The 165-pound match was a struggle in a low-scoring affair. Joe Brewster and Abner Cook spent the majority of the match in neutral position and finished the third period tied 2-2. In the first overtime period, the two wrestled the first 58 seconds in neutral, but Brewster used his final effort to score a takedown and a 4-2 decision. The win put SDSU back on top 15-3 with four matches remaining.

After a Wolverine decision at 174, SDSU trailed 16-15.

At 184 pounds, Shea Nolan faced Derek Thomas. The two wrestled in another low-scoring match, but Nolan received two points from stalling calls. Nolan scored an escape late in the third period and was able to stay on his feet for a 3-2 decision. The Jacks retook the lead 18-16 with two matches remaining.

Joe Skow took on David Prieto in the first of two decisive matches. Following a scoreless first period, Prieto chose down and scored a quick escape. Skow matched the play in the third period and the two advanced to the second sudden victory match of the dual. Unfortunately for the Jacks, Prieto scored a takedown midway through the first overtime for a 3-1 decision.

The dual was decided by the final match between J.J. Everard and Adam Fager. Fager struck first with a takedown midway through the first period, but Everard escaped seconds later. Everard started down in the second and escaped after one minute, but Fager scored another takedown. Everard scored a second escape to close the second period. Fager chose down to start the third, but SDSU allowed a point for neutral. The scoring stopped as Utah Valley escaped in the match and the dual.

“I am pleased,” Bono said. “We fought and hustled and we had a chance to win at the end. We are getting better.”

The Jacks dropped to 4-10 overall, 0-3 in conference. Utah Valley moved to 5-2, 2-1 in conference.

SDSU faces its second short turnaround in as many duals when the Jacks host Northern Colorado in its second conference clash of the week. Dual time is set for 7 p.m. on Friday in Frost Arena.

“We get to put this dual behind us and get ready for Friday,” said Bono. “Northern Colorado is a tough team and we will see what happens.”

– WWE Tough Enough winner Sara Lee wrestled what appears to be her first singles match, except for the match against Alicia Fox on the finale, at last night’s WWE NXT live event in Citrus Springs, Florida. She lost to Aliyah and it was noted that Sara still needs a lot of work. Another correspondent wrote in that she seemed nervous at times and behind some of the other newer Divas as far as in-ring skills go. It was also noted that she interacted with fans well. Sara worked as a babyface while Aliyah worked as the heel. Below is a photo of her look:
