The action from AEW Dynamite has spilled over into the New York Comic Con this week.

Following the attacks by Chris Jericho and his henchmen, which included new AEW star and Bellator MMA fighter Jake Hager (aka Jack Swagger), on the debut episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, Cody fired back with one of his own at the New York Comic Con event.

The attack has been garnering a ton of attention for AEW on social media, as one would expect.

Chris Jericho’s official YouTube channel recently released a second, more clear version of the video that has been making the rounds for the past few minutes on social media that showed off the aforementioned attack.

Check out the video of Cody attacking Chris Jericho at the New York Comic Con event below.

— Injured WWE star Xavier Woods underwent surgery to repair what is being reported as a torn Achilles tendon. Woods posted on Twitter to update everyone but indicated that he doesn’t know how long he will be sidelined for but anticipated that would find out soon but admitted that he won’t be able to wrestle for “quite a while.”

— It was suggested in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the torn Achilles tendon would sideline Woods for anywhere between nine months and a year, which if true, would keep him out of action until at least the summer.

In the wake of mass protests following the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin and an ongoing sit-in at the Florida state capital building by a group called the Dream Defenders, Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford announced on Friday that he has ordered a hearing this fall to review the state’s “stand your ground” law at the center of the case.

Following the announcement, Phillip Agnew, executive director of the Dream Defenders, expressed cautious optimism about the hearing, which has been one of the group’s key demands, but warned that it is only a small victory among a slew of issues the group has set out to tackle.

Asked if he was happy with the announcement, Agnew responded, “We are always happy with small victories…but we know that this is a marathon, not a sprint.” He added that the Dream Defenders are not just fighting to end ‘stand your ground’ but also to tackle issues of racial profiling and the school-to-prison pipeline. “So we celebrated for a short time but we know there is a lot more work to do,” Agnew said.

Agnew added the Defenders plan to continue their sit-in at the capital. “We are 19 days in…a few of us were joking saying we’d like to see what 30 or 40 days looks like,” he said. “We’ve got a few more issues that we’ve got to discuss. We came here presenting a total package for our lawmakers.”

“It’s a critical first step,” Agnew told reporters. “We’ve been here for three weeks. We know Democracy takes time. Progress takes time.”

Weatherford assigned the task of chairing the hearings to a supporter of the stand your ground law, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach.

— Here is a recap of today’s WWE press conference in Las Vegas:

The conference began with a video feature promising that for the first time, the world’s most unstoppable athletes collide showing clips of Tyson Fury, Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez and Braun Strowman.

Michael Cole, standing on the stage of the Smackdown entrance set, thanked everyone for coming out for big announcements in the world of WWE, boxing and MMA.

Cole introduced Triple H, who came out to the podium. He said that in less than three weeks, WWE would be traveling to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel. He put over all the events taking place in Riyadh over the next several months with WWE re-inventing the term “sports-entertainment” by presenting an event that only WWE can do.

HHH pitcherd a video showcasing previous events and footage from WWE’s past three big events in Saudi Arabia.

Triple H said it will be the “most exciting card” in WWE history, touting legends like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair as well as top stars like Seth Rollins and Randy Orton.

He said that they will be announcing two new matches, bringing the worlds of UFC and boxing together with WWE as only WWE can.

Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez.

Braun Strowman vs. Tyson Fury.

They ran a video package on Fury and Strowman’s recent run-in on Raw.

Michael Cole returned and said this will not be a typical press conference and every “team” has agreed to leave the fighting to the ring. He introduced Braun Strowman, who came out in a suit jacket and street clothes.

Braun thanked everyone for being there and said he can’t help but be engaged in this “big fight” experience. He said that last year, he won the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia and he intends to return and prove he is the toughest SOB. He said Tyson Fury is a bad dude and you have to give him credit, but in WWE, “we don’t wear gloves and you are coming into my world.” He said that when they face on 10/15 (oit’s 10/31), he’ll get these hands and the world will know who the Monster Among Men are.

Michael Cole brought out Boxing Hall of Famer and Top Rank Founder and CEO Bob Arum. Arum said it was a pleasure to be here for the announcement of this event. He said he goes back to 1974 with WWE. He met a 29-year old Vince McMahon and they co-promote the Evel Knievel Snake Canyon Jump and since then, he’s so proud that Vince has built a company that is a worldwide brand. He said they entertain people all over the world and said it’s truly remarkable. It’s also remarkable that the lineal Heavyweight Champion Tyson King reminds him of Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. He’s the consumate Heavyweight who entertains in the ring and is a tremendous personality. He’s a real showman and that’s why people love him. He fights with his heart on his sleeve and even if he’s bloodied with a cut over his eye, he carries on to victory. He introduced Tyson Fury.

Fury came to the podium wearing the damn loudest white and blue suit ever. He said that he’s honored to be involved here and in Saudi Arabia. He’s a lifelong WWE fan and he’s excited to be here. He’s excited to face Braun Strowman and he knows why he’s the Monster Among Men, but he’s the lineal Heavyweight Champion. He’s going to knock out Braun. Braun says “get these hands” but he’s facing the best boxing hands and he doesn’t want to get these hands. He does some shadow boxing and thanks everyone.

Braun returned to the stage and they faced off for a photo-op, then mugged for the press. They playfully shoved each other and shook hands. Fury went to walk away but Braun held onto his hand. They got in each others’ faces but were separated by Triple H.

Triple H returned to the podium and talked about Brock vs. Velasquez, saying they were perhaps the biggest crossover athletes ever. He praised both men and said their story began in 2010. He sent it to a video feature on the two, showing the footage from last week’s Friday Night Smackdown.

Michael Cole introduced Rey Mysterio, noting he may have a different opinion on Lesnar. Hewearing a sling on his arm, asked where he should begin. He said his son Dominick has been dreaming of following Rey’s footsteps since he was a little boy. The last two years, that has intensified and his dream has been to fight side by side by Rey, father and son. That dream, at this moment, is crushed. His son pushed him to keep fighting when Rey was going through a serious moment of doubt. It breaks his heart that the first time they shared a ring together, it was at the hands of Brock Lesnar. Brock brutally brutalized his son and dragged him from the crowd into the ring. He’s very proud to announce his Familia who has been standing by his side since that moment, someone who has handed losses to Brock in the past, Cain Velasquez.

Cain came to the podium and hugged Rey. He said that he is so excited to be joining “the WWE.” He took a moment and looked at Rey. He said that Brock crossed the wrong “Familia” and for that, he needs to pay. He said that he knows Brock is big…he’s the biggest, but he ain’t the baddest. Cain said he’s beaten him in UFC and he’s ready to do it again on 10/31 at Crown Jewel. He said that Lesnar attacked Rey and Dominick Mysterio but Cain was going to get him.

Michael Cole then brought out Paul Heyman to speak for Brock Lesnar. He said Lesnar is the baddest dude on the planet. He said Lesnar is a once in a lifetime athlete. He promised Lesnar will beat Velasquez and said it’s not a prediction, but a spoiler. He said it was his honor, duty and pleasure to introduce the Cain conquerer, Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar said he doesn’t feel the need to say anything when he has Heyman there, but he feels he has to. Words can’t describe how he felt when Cain showed up, but this is his world, his house and he’s the conquerer. He told Cain “This isn’t a show” and said he’s been waiting ten years for this moment. He said he gets up every morning and has to look at the scar Cain put on his face in the Octagon and he’s can’t wait to get to Riyadh. He said it will be a different story that day.

Michael Cole called Cain Velasquez back out and they faced off for a photo-op. They separated and went their sepearate ways without incident.

They faded off the air and that was it.

— On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, a discussion took place about the recent firing of Eric Bischoff from his role as Executive Director of Smackdown. It was noted that the writing was on the wall for Bischoff’s dismissal for a while now, but WWE couldn’t pull the trigger on it within a couple of weeks of Bischoff’s hiring in the first place.

— Ryan Ward, who previously headed up Smackdown’s creative team, was removed from that role last month and ended up taking a leave of absence with the idea that when he returned, he’d be re-assigned and basically demoted to the “home team.” The speculation was that because WWE couldn’t get rid of Bischoff so soon after hiring him, it was Ward who took the fall as a scapegoat for Smackdown’s supposed lack of direction ahead of the move to FOX.

In addition to Friday Night SmackDown On FS1 (Preview Here), this week’s episode of 205 Live will go down tonight when WWE makes their return to the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri this evening.

WWE.com released the following preview for tonight’s show:

WWE 205 Live preview, Oct. 25, 2019: The champion returns to battle Oney Lorcan

Tonight on WWE 205 Live, NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush returns to WWE 205 for the first time since winning the title to take on Oney Lorcan. Plus, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott will face Ariya Daivari, and Raul Mendoza will be in action.

Daivari hopes to put “Swerve” in his place

Earlier today, Ariya Daivari posted on Twitter that he’s ready to take on any of the new faces making their way to WWE 205 Live, especially following his loss in last week’s Triple Threat Match.

Looking to make an impact on his first night as an official member of the WWE 205 Live roster, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott quote-tweeted Daivari to make it known he’d answer the challenge. As a result, Daivari and Scott will face off tonight!

The Champion of the Hour returns

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush returns to WWE 205 Live for the first time since defeating Drew Gulak for the championship. The Man of the Hour will certainly be looking to prove to the WWE Universe why he is the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, but in order to do so, he must defeat the very Superstar he faced to earn the right to challenge Drew Gulak for the title – Oney Lorcan.

The Boston Brawler has been hungry for a championship opportunity, and following his loss in the Triple Threat Match last week, he has another chance to prove he’s ready for title contention. If Lorcan can defeat the champion in a non-title bout tonight, he will have an ironclad case for a future opportunity.

Don’t miss the most exciting hour of television, WWE 205 Live, streaming live tonight on the award-winning WWE Network at 10/9 C immediately following Friday Night SmackDown on FOX Sports 1.

Eric Bischoff appeared on After 83 Weeks with Christy Olson where he discussed his departure from WWE, his conversation with Vince McMahon about AEW, NXT vs. AEW competition and whether AEW has contacted him about joining their company. Here are the highlights:

Former executive director of SmackDown Live Eric Bischoff discusses his WWE exit on the post-show for 83 Weeks, After 83 Weeks with Christy Olson. Revealing more on how he learned his short tenure was coming to an end, Eric explains why “working eighty hours a week at WWE” would have put a dent in his future plans anyway. But he’s spilling the inside details on working for Vince McMahon, including whether Vince is concerned about AEW. Going deeper into detail about than he did on his own show, Eric answers the most-asked question since getting the axe—Has AEW reached out to hire him?! Excerpts are below.

Did Vince himself deliver the news that Eric’s WWE tenure was ending?:

“Yes, I did have a very good conversation with Vince McMahon.”

If Vince is paying attention to AEW:

“Vince asked me actually, a couple of days after the first episode aired, what I thought. I was pretty honest with him. I thought the action was good. But I thought what made that show really stand out to me was just how engaged the audience is.”

Click Here: Fjallraven Kanken Art Spring Landscape Backpacks
Comparing AEW to NXT:

The audience, to me, made their show so much better than the NXT show. Not that there’s anything wrong with the NXT show. The action in the ring was great. The characters are great. There are a lot of great things about it. But when you put a live event inside of a small, confined studio kind of like TNA, I don’t care how great the action is in the ring. It just doesn’t have that big event feel to it.”

Whether Eric has talked to AEW about working for them:

“I have not spoken with anybody from AEW. Not one conversation. The last conversation I had with anybody that’s currently in AEW was probably Cody Rhodes, and that was about two years ago…It was right after he left WWE and I called him, just to congratulate him and let him know how much I respected his decision.”

Why he was planning to only work at WWE for a few years:

“My wife and I have a beautiful home in Wyoming. We want to travel. There’s a lot of things that we still want to be able to do, and working eighty hours a week at WWE would put a little bit of a dent in those plans.”

Does Eric want to continue working in the wrestling business?:

“Of course. You know, I always will. Thats what I’ve done for the largest part of my adult life, and I still have a passion for it. I think this latest experiment probably proved to me more than anything that it has to be the right opportunity. Not just right for whoever I would work with, but right for me as well.”

— NXT shows are booked through January at Full Sail University which means that the rumored move to other, larger venues doesn’t appear to be happening until at least February. The latest plan still calls for WWE to hold their NXT shows jointly at Full Sail and at other arenas around the country for much of 2020, perhaps as a response to AEW.
