Lewis Hamilton was critical of Pirelli’s 2021-spec tyre that drivers put to the test on Friday in Bahrain, insisting the new rubber was “worse” than its current specification.

Each driver was allocated two sets of the experimental 2021 tyre to sample in either FP1 or FP2.

Ahead of setting the fastest time of the day, Hamilton put the rubber to the task in the evening session, but the Briton’s feedback was anything put positive.

“We’ve got a team here from Pirelli and I have the utmost respect for the guys that load our tyres up, come here and keep us safe and they do an amazing job,” said Hamilton.

“Unfortunately, we’ve had the same tyre for the last two years.

“At the end of 2019 they brought a new tyre, which they normally do, and it was quite a bit worse. So then they said ‘well, we’ll just keep the tyre from last year’.

“They’ve had two years now to develop a better tyre and we’ve arrived with a tyre that’s three kilos heavier and is like a second worse per lap.”

Hamilton admitted to being baffled – and worried – by the result of Pirelli’s efforts.

“I know for the fans that doesn’t really make a difference but from a driving point of view we’re working with brands and partners who are at the forefront of technology and elevating and moving forwards.

“And if you’re going back, after two years of development, then I don’t know what’s happening.

“It definitely doesn’t feel good out there and it’s a worry.

“I’d prefer to just stay on these tyres. If that’s all they’ve got and that’s the best they can do, which clearly it is, then it’d be better just to stay with this tyre.”

Hamilton previously took a keen interest in Pirelli’s work to produce a better tyre, attending an FIA meeting in Paris as the representative of the GPDA to help guide F1’s exclusive tyre supplier and define the ‘target letter’ intended to determine the characteristics of Pirelli’s range of compounds.

“The previous target letter we weren’t involved in and they hadn’t listened to a single word we’ve said in previous years,” said a visibly frustrated Hamilton.

“We delivered lots of emails going back and forth to help them. And it’s still no better.

“So I wouldn’t say that we can do any more. Ultimately it’s technology. I don’t know if we’re at the limit of technology or it’s just their limit.”

At the end of Friday’s running, Hamilton wasn’t the only one left unimpressed by Pirelli’s 2021 product.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen said: “We were a bit all over the place on grip and balance”. An verdict echoed by team mate Alex Albon before his massive crash: “They’re slow and they’re not very grippy. I reckon they were over a second off what we have now.”

And McLaren’s Lando Norris commented that the tyre was “a little bit trickier to drive, not a big difference”.

Adam Cole recently spoke with Benjamin Raven of MLive.com to promote tonight’s NXT live event near the Detroit, Michigan area. Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On describing his first year with WWE as “just wild”: “I always think back to that first night in Brooklyn, where I debuted, and it was this total surprise. I just remember thinking, ‘I hope they care, I hope they remember me.’ The way they embraced me that night, I knew it was the start of something special.”

On support from Kevin Owens: “Kevin has always gone above and beyond in being supportive of me in my journey. To have him there to support me was awesome. Talk about another friendship that will never go away.”

On believing in the NXT brand and not going straight to the WWE main roster as part of the RAW or SmackDown Live brands: “NXT is something I really believe in and still do. This is made up of young passionate people that want to make a name for themselves. I wanted to be a part of WWE, and part of NXT first as if I went to Raw or SmackDown right away I would always wonder what NXT would have been like. The coaches, the team and hands-on approach is really cool and I will be able to look back see how happy I was to be a part of this.”

WWE Mixed Match Challenge
Aired on Facebook Watch
Indianapolis, Indiana at Bankers Life Fieldhouse
Report by: Jason Powell, prowrestling.net

The broadcast team of Michael Cole, Beth Phoenix, and Corey Graves welcomed viewers to the show and played up MMC as the most interactive show anywhere… Ring introductions for the match took place…

Pre-taped promos aired. In a shocking twist, Roode stated that beating Rusev and Lana would be glorious. Rusev told Lana that she would crush Charlotte. Lana told him he would destroy Bob Roode…

1. Bobby Roode and Charlotte vs. Rusev and Lana. Before the match, Charlotte shoved Rusev. Lana got upset. She tried to slap Charlotte, but ended up hitting Roode instead. A few minutes into the match, Lana performed a facebuster for a two count. Cole laid it on thick about being impressed by Lana. Charlotte performed a fallaway slam and the women tagged out.

Roode performed a blockbuster on Rusev for a two count. Roode went for his finisher, but Rusev avoided it and caught Roode with a kick for a two count. Shinsuke Nakamura and Natalya were shown chatting on their phones with fans. They said Charlotte and Roode were tan and tall. Rusev worked over Roode and yelled, “Lana is the best, Lana number one.” Lana scolded the crowd for booing her. Rusev connected with another kick to the shoulder of Roode. Rusev went to the middle rope and played to the crowd. He went for a headbutt, but Roode avoided it and made the tag.

Charlotte caught Lana with a big boot and then went for her finisher, but Rusev dragged Lana to the ropes. Charlotte walked over and slapped Rusev. Lana rolled up Charlotte for a two count and then made the tag. However, Roode was still down selling at ringside. Rusev smiled as he looked at Charlotte. Cole said the referee needed to make a decision. Apparently, counting out Roode was not an option. Charlotte chopped Rusev, who put his hands behind his back. Roode returned to the ring, kicked Rusev, and then hit the Glorious DDT for the win…

Bobby Roode and Charlotte defeated Rusev and Lana in 11:00 to advance to the semifinals.

Next week’s match is The Miz and Asuka vs. Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss in a semifinal match. Brief promos aired from both teams. The following week will feature Roode and Charlotte facing the winners of the second chance vote with the fans selecting a losing team to bring back. Cole said the winners of the vote would be announced on next week’s show…

  • Update On Big Surprises WWE Has Planned For WrestleMania Week

Shinsuke Nakamura recently spoke with The New York Post to promote his WWE Championship “Dream Match” against A.J. Styles at WrestleMania 34 this Sunday. Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On his match against A.J. Styles this Sunday: “It’s an amazing thing for WWE history I think. We crossed over, we crossed the border line in Japan and the States, different company and that’s why I say this is destiny. Actually I don’t care about the ratings, five stars, six stars, seven stars, whatever. But I really want to enjoy this match. I want to do everything I can do. I want to take everything he can do.”

On connecting with the WWE Universe despite the language-barrier: “I think a wrestler can say something from fighting, from wrestling. I’m not like an English speaker so I have confidence in my wrestling skills, also like body language, hand gestures, facial expressions. I put all of my emotion in my wrestling. That’s why maybe people can feel [a connection].”

On Daniel Bryan getting medically cleared to return to the ring: “So, I join the WWE and soon he needed to quit. That was shock to me. Huge shock. [It is the] next dream match for me.”

  • eWrestling.com: WrestleMania 34 News Coverage All Week Long!

The New Day recently spoke with the folks at The Undefeated to promote WrestleMania 34. Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On their thoughts about breaking up The New Day:

Big E: “Uh, first of all, that’s a terrible idea.”

Xavier Woods: “We have a name for people like that.”

All: “We call them wedge-drivers.”

Big E:“Trying to drive a wedge. Trying to break up the bond that we have going on.”

Xavier Woods: “For why?”

Kofi Kingston: “For what purpose?”

Big E: “You don’t like fun?”

Xavier Woods: “Something’s wrong with you. I’m having a blast with these two.”

Big E: “And as a trio we’re doing something unique. You could say there are other people that maybe in the past who were tired of that, but I feel like we’ve created our own lane in many ways. As individuals we’ll have a lot of success, but we originally saw ourselves as a faction, and we just ended up being in a tag-team division. We love tag-team wrestling, but all of our goals individually can still be achieved as The New Day. I don’t think there has to be any kind of breakup whatsoever. I’m reminded of what we did a couple of years ago when Woods and I had defended the tag titles, unfortunately unsuccessfully, at [the ‘Money in the Bank’ pay-per-view], but Kofi was in the ‘Money in the Bank’ ladder match, and in the time leading up to that Kofi would have a singles match and Woods and I would be doing tag stuff. That would be a lot of fun to go back to doing more stuff like that where one of us can pursue a singles title and the other two can still be in a tag team. There’s a lot of stuff we can still do as a collective but still achieve individual goals. To why we would ever break up, I don’t know what the point of that would be.”

Kofi Kingston: “It really wouldn’t make sense because three is better than one. It doesn’t make sense.”

Xavier Woods: “It’s just a logical choice for us to just stay friends.”

On whether or not they miss playing heels:

Big E: “That was a while ago. I was thinking about being in Baltimore and [Orioles outfielder] Adam Jones was there — not ‘Pacman,’ the baseball player — and I remember looking over at him. I think we ripped him. I remember we were in Pittsburgh, we had the Terrible Towels and being able to slide that across my … you know the area. Man, we had some good times.”

Kofi Kingston: “We talked about Chip Kelly being a grown man named ‘Chip.’ One of my favorite things to do is to be able to berate children, being the ‘bad guy’ coming out there yelling at these kids and threatening to ground them was some of my favorite, favorite stuff. That’s what it’s all about. We go out there and you see kids really getting into what we do, so to go out there and kind of have a little fun with them and hopefully at the end of the match they get their way and they feel they’ve caused us to fall or whatever. I do kind of miss that.”

Xavier Woods: “It was a big part of everything, as Kofi said. Yelling at children that they should be doing their homework and them getting irate. But then it’s cool because you see everyone behind them that sees this kid interacting with us and losing their mind and they start doing the same thing; now everyone’s involved. It was a cool way to not just involve that kid, who’s going to remember that for the rest of his life, but involve everyone else who’s also paying money to come to this show, this interactive experience. It’s something we’re not doing right now, but we might get back to it.”
