Saudi Arabia will host Formula E’s very first night event in 2021, with a double-header weekend scheduled on February 26-27 on the streets of Diriyah.

The pair of races will constitute the third and fourth rounds of the 2021 FIA Formula E Championship and follow the all-electric series’ opening double-header at Santiago, Chili.

For Formula E’s third visist to Saudi Arabia, Diriyah will light up its streets thanks in part to a low consumption LED floodlighting technology that will reduce energy consumption by up to fifty per cent compared to non-LED technologies.

The remaining energy needed to supply the floodlighting will be sourced from fully renewable technology provided by high performing low-carbon certified hydrogenated vegetable oil made from sustainable materials.

“We are very proud to partner with Saudi to create Formula E’s first-ever night race,” said FE co-founder and chief championship officer Alberto Longo

“I am confident the race will be spectacular and lead to a style of competitive action we haven’t seen before.

“As with everything we do, our first thought was about how to bring our sporting vision to life in a sustainable way.

“Before we innovate our racing product, we must be confident we can maintain the standards of sustainable practice we hold ourselves accountable to.”

Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki AlFaisal Al Saud, the Saudi Arabia minister of sport added: “In 2018, the ancient historical city of Diriyah made history in hosting the first fully electric race on the streets of the region.

“The debut event sparked so much joy and energy to our sporting journey and was one of a number of major sporting firsts that have since inspired our people and helped to shine a spotlight on Saudi Arabia’s massive transformation under the Kingdom’s vision 2030.

“In 2019, Diryah was the first to host back to back races during a race weekend and now once again we will make sporting history.

“It is very fitting that a place so ancient will showcase the latest in sustainable technology as Diriyah lights up to shine bright for the world to see.

“We look forward to the dramatic racing and incredible scenes that are guaranteed to unfold under the lights.”

As a reminder, Formula 1 is also set to visit Saudi Arabia next year, with Jeddah hosting the country’s first Grand Prix on its floodlit streets on November 28, 2021.

— Brock Lesnar’s next Universal title defense is currently scheduled for the 8/19 SummerSlam PPV, where he is expected to tentatively headline. However, this is not locked in stone but could depend on whether Lesnar declares himself eligible to return to UFC by being put back in the USADA drug testing pool by June 30. If he does by that date, it would enable him to work the UFC show on New Year’s weekend, but if he doesn’t go back into the pool, it is very likely he will be staying with WWE.

— Either way, with both UFC and WWE ready to sign very rich deals, the timing of Lesnar once again being a free agent later this year is impeccable as he is not only still the WWE’s Universal champion, but he has a great ability to successfully play one side against the other. Bottom line, Lesnar is likely in for a massive pay day on his next contract with whichever company he goes with.

As noted, Triple H spoke with the media while in the U.K. for the taping of WWE’s two-day WWE U.K. Championship Tournament special for the WWE Network. Featured below are some additional highlights.

On WWE working with local independent promotions in the U.K.: “I think to say to ‘work with all the indies,’ I’ve said this before, there are groups cultivating talent and I’d like to work with those. There are also groups out there just putting on shows and you’ve heard the stories of are you going to get paid? Is there medical? There’s a lot of things we’re trying to upgrade. It’s hard, fans just see it and they liked the product or they don’t, but I’m trying to upgrade the behind-the-scenes for the talent, for their health, for their well being, [and] for their careers. I want this to be a career for people, not a thing where you you hope that you make it and 15 years later and go, ‘Man, I spent a lot of time doing this and I have nothing to show for it.’ Trying to change that and trying to change that for their well being. That’s the effort and at the same time showcasing them to the world. The pathway to get to WWE, the pathway to get this to be a career didn’t necessarily exist before, [I] think talent is beginning to see this [open up].”

On their new U.K. brand becoming included in a more global vision of NXT: “I think it organically developed into that, it what was always in my head of how it would end up being. When we did it the first time it was, ‘Hey, WWE is going to do this UK tournament’ and I think it helped up put more eyeballs on it. But as NXT has become more and more established, the ability to look at Raw and SmackDown as kind of these two bigger flagship juggernauts that are out there and where everything sits beneath it. It’s not a downgrade, but it’s just this global system that allows you to have the benefits of the WWE and a career that can be meaningful. Putting these in other international markets and in some way building a global territory system, much like what existed in the U.S. year ago, but global.

“Having talent have those places to work, so even if they spend time in a location and they’re not quite ready to make that move yet or it’s just time for them to go someplace else, they can go someplace else, but still stay within that system. Still continued to grow. If I were a 25 year old kid trying to make it in the business and they told me, ‘You want to go to the Middle East for six months and work a territory there?’ I’d say, ‘hell yeah.’ Those are the things that are a blast when you’re at that time frame and to be able to have that experience will be so valuable to all those talents.”

Bill Goldberg recently spoke with the folks from The Digital Spy for an interview. Featured below are some of the highlights.

On whether or not The Undertaker should retire: “You know, it’s not my decision. If you asked him the same question about me, he’d probably say the same thing. At the end of the day, it’s up to the person lacing those boots up, and my opinion is nothing but that. And one person’s opinion doesn’t mean that things are right or wrong. I believe that in Mark’s head, Mark knows when to call it quits. He’ll do it when he wants to, and nobody can tell him otherwise, except for Vince, maybe. You know, they can sit down and have a man-to-man, and when it gets to the point where the performance isn’t there, or you’re enduring too much pain [where] you have to prepare too many different ways to get into the match, then it’s time to do it.

“But, it’s a really very hard thing to do. And money doesn’t drive it. People think that money drives them, and that has nothing to do with it. We’re talking about careers here that need to be made or broken in one or two matches, or one comeback. One of the old-time programs. You know you don’t want to change your legacy. So, it’s something very much to consider, and it’s tough. I mean, when I got offered the opportunity to come back, it was tough for me. I mean, I didn’t know — personally, I didn’t want to do it. For the family, there wasn’t an iota in my mind that didn’t want to do it. So I had to meet myself in the middle, take a sacrifice, and take one for the team and go out and do my thing. I wasn’t prepared the way I wanted to be, but I finally got prepared enough, and then it was time to hang them up again.”

On whether or not we could see Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 35: “All I got to say is, it ain’t up to me. Whether it’s Reigns or ‘Taker, and, I don’t know, I’m not gonna say anybody else. Hey, Reigns and ‘Taker are the two guys on my list right now. I mean, obviously for two different reasons, but I’d be honoured to get in the ring with either one of them. And I still owe Brock one, but I’m two-and-one on him, so it’s all good.”
