Stephanie McMahon & Roman Reigns Kick Off RAW

The post-TLC edition of RAW opens with a lengthy video package focusing on Roman Reigns snapping and attacking Triple H at last night’s PPV. From there, Stephanie McMahon’s music hits and she makes her way down to the ring as the announcers welcome us to the show and talk more about Reigns’ attack of HHH last night.

Stephanie said powerful women are still viewed as cold and ruthless. She said she’s just like the fans if you take away the money and the education. She spoke about not knowing what to tell her children when their father was spitting up blood in the hospital all night. Stephanie said Reigns left her no choice.

Roman Reigns’ music interrupted Stephanie and he made his way through the crowd and to the ring while Cole questioned whether this would be the last time we see him on Raw. Cole and JBL agreed that Reigns crossed the line by attacking “the boss.” After a staredown, Reigns said he is a father and today and his daughter’s birthday. He looked into the camera and told his daughter that he loves her and he can’t wait to see her. Reigns then said he doesn’t feel bad about kicking Triple H’s ass.

Stephanie asked Reigns how it would feel for his wife to look into his girl’s eyes and explain a beating that he took. Stephanie told him he better have something sharp to say because she’s ready. Reigns said he’s a little short on time and said if she is going to fire him, “then fire me, please.” Stephanie told Reigns to accept responsibility for his loss. She called him a failure and a disgrace. Reigns laughed off the idea of Stephanie calling him a disgrace. Reigns said the entire McMahon family is a disgrace. The fans chanted “Yes!”

Stephanie slapped Reigns, who smiled at her. She slapped him again and he smiled. Stephanie slapped Reigns repeatedly. He didn’t smile. Stephanie said “just one more thing.” She slapped him again. Stephanie said she’s not going to fire Reigns because her husband asked her not to, but she said there’s someone on his way to the the building who just might – Vincent Kennedy McMahon…

The broadcast team spoke about the segment and then hyped new Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose in action after the break.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose

When we return from the break, Dolph Ziggler’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Out next is his opponent for this evening, the new WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose.

The crowd was hot for Ambrose, who was in control heading into a break. [C] Ambrose leapt off the ropes and into a dropkick from Ziggler, who scored a near fall moments later. Ziggler went for a superkick, but Ambrose avoided him and then face planted him. Ambrose performed a missile dropkick and followed with a clothesline and a bulldog for a two count.

[Q3] With both men down, Kevin Owens entered the ring and threw Ziggler to ringside. The referee called for the bell.

Winner: No Contest

After The Match: The Action Continues

After the match, Owens attacked Ambrose and put him down with a Pop-Up Powerbomb. Owens walked to ringside and grabbed the IC Title belt, then returned to the ring and looked at it while standing on Ambrose’s hand. Owens picke dup Ambrose and gave him another Pop-Up Powerbomb. Ziggler returned and attacked Owens, who cut him off with a kick to the knee. Ambrose picked up Ziggler and powerbombed him onto Ambrose.

While anytime WWE uses a poll it raises questions of the legitimacy of the voting, it’s said that this year’s Slammy Awards were legitimate across the board.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that despite speculation related to WWE’s past of rigging the voting system with polls, everything was on the “up and up” as it pertains to this year’s Slammy Awards.

One of the big complaints coming out of this year’s Slammy Awards was the fact that so many top stars that won awards weren’t present to accept them, including The Rock, Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Sting and John Cena. While there is the issue of not knowing who will win ahead of time, so you’re not sure who to bring in, it’s said that the bigger issue is the perception that the awards aren’t important enough for some of the top stars to show up.

Two changes were proposed after this year’s Slammy Awards show, according to The Observer. One is to have the voting take place one week prior to the show itself, this way WWE would know ahead of time who the winners are so that they could arrange to have them at the show. In the case of The Rock, where he could still be busy with movie commitments, WWE could send film crews to record an acceptance speech.

The second change proposed was to move the annual Slammy Awards to WrestleMania week, as most of the top stars will already be in town, so there won’t be an issue with not having big stars on-hand to accept the awards in person. The problem with doing that is that WrestleMania week is already very busy, and putting the Slammy Awards on the post-WrestleMania edition of RAW would potentially ruin what has become one of the biggest and most exciting RAW shows each year.

WWE Performance Center head coach Matt Bloom recently spoke with WWE.com about the rumors of top New Japan Pro Wrestling stars coming to WWE. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On the rumors of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling to come to WWE:

“It’s about time. WWE is the largest platform in the world to do what those guys love to do. They deserve to be here because they paid their dues, they worked really hard, and they made names for themselves. The best of the best come here to flourish. They’re gonna take all those years of experience, hard work and dedication, and now show it to the world on an even grander scale.”

On talking to Finn Balor about his former Bullet Club buddies possibly coming to WWE:

“He’s excited. He’s stoked. Finn is doing big things on his own right now, but I’m sure he knows that becoming the champion is difficult and staying the champion is even more difficult. He’s got an ace in his back pocket because he might have some friends coming in that have been known to watch his back. I’m sure that’s very comforting for Finn Bálor.”

On what to expect if The Bullet Club members show up in WWE:

“You hear the boss always say, “You need to reach for that brass ring.” The Bullet Club do things outside the box to continually reach for that brass ring. They’re not afraid to buck the system and be different. They’re not afraid of trying new things. The fans, the locker room, and us as coaches are very excited to see what The Bullet Club might do.”

– Daniel Bryan will be appearing on ESPN Sportscenter tonight to discuss his retirement as an active pro wrestler. He’ll be on at 9PM ET.

– Reddit user u/DuragVince was in attendance at Monday’s RAW, and revealed that security had removed a fan from his seat for interrupting Daniel Bryan’s retirement speech. It’s unknown if the fan was removed from the building, or just somewhere he couldn’t be hear on camera. Here’s his report from the arena:

“So some guy ended up getting thrown out (and roughed up) by security for trying to start a chant by singing that “na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye” song while Daniel was talking,” he wrote. “It was during the moment the whole place went silent while he was going over his gratitude; the guy started screaming the tune at the top of his lungs. Three security guys rushed him and just pulled him out of our row and he was out of there quick. You can tell by the look on his face that he didn’t even know what was happening.”

CewshReviews.com

Welcome, cats and kittens, to yet another installment of the only reviews that are less relevant than whatever Dixie Carter is doing, Cewsh Reviews! Now, you’ll have to excuse me, boys and girls, because it has been a good long while since I did one of these and i’m trying to remember how they work. Looking back through the archives, it appears that I used to pick a wrestling show, post lots of gifs of it, and then make fun of people for what they were wearing. I think I can handle something along those lines today.

But I haven’t made my dramatic return to reviewing for just any occasion. Oh no. You see, I made a promise to the young, disenfranchised youth of America around a year ago, that they could pick which show I reviewed next. Naturally, one thing led to another and I pretty much fell off the planet completely, but I never forgot about my solemn vow to honor the request made by the fans who have followed us through years of good shows and bad. So it is with a proud heart and a tear in my eye that I commit myself now to the show that you chose for me. The show that you thought would encapsulate all that you love about Cewsh Reviews, professional wrestling and the world itself. A window into your very fandom.

So what show did you choose?

George Russell doesn’t yet know whether he’ll be racing with Mercedes once again this weekend but the Briton is sure he’ll be driving for Williams in 2021.

After his standout driver last weekend at Sakhir where a rare Mercedes pit stop blunder squandered his chances of clinching a sensational maiden win in F1, Russell is waiting on whether Lewis Hamilton will get a clean bill of health and return to Mercedes for F1’s season finale.

“We’re still waiting to get Lewis’s results back,” said Russell who appeared in Mercedes kit at Thursday’s media conference.

“For now we are going ahead as planned and if Lewis returns with a negative result he will be back in the car.”

While in the dark for this weekend, the 22-year-old confirmed that he will be racing with Williams in 2021, barring any unforeseen circumstances. But ultimately, he remains under Mercedes’ wing.

“Ultimately I have a contract and I’m a Williams driver for 2021,” he said.

“My management is Mercedes. I signed a deal with Mercedes back in 2016 and they are my managers.

“They invested in me, they put faith in me and that means a huge amount. I am committed to Mercedes so I’m happy and confident with my position under their guidance.”

Sami Callihan (formerly Solomon Crowe in NXT) recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog about why he decided to leave WWE.

“Everyone’s like, “You left NXT, and NXT is so hot,” but I have no hard feelings against NXT. Hopefully, I’ll be back there one day. But when I went in, a couple things happened–I got injured at one point, and I was just not being used. Now that I’m 28, I wanted to have the chance to leave and show them why they hired me in the first place. I’m still young enough to go back, so that’s what I’m doing now. I’m one of the only guys ever to walk up to WWE and quit, but I didn’t do it to be a badass. I needed to roll the dice, and it may pay off one day and it may not. But no matter where I am, whether it’s WWE or someplace else, I’m still a professional wrestler. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters to me.”

He also talked about a recent meeting with Triple H at an indy show:

“Triple H showed up at the Evolve show [the night before the Royal Rumble], and that was the first time I got to see him face-to-face and talk with him. He said, “Man, I know how good you are, and to quit the top company in the world takes balls. You left on good terms and did it professionally, so if a spot opens, it’s yours.” I did everything by the book, and I want to be back, but at the end of the day, I realize WWE isn’t the only place that is professional wrestling.”

Callihan is excited at the fact that his career path could take him to the top of WWE, NJPW or somewhere else.

“I can be a professional wrestler anywhere in the world. If my journey takes me back to WWE and WrestleMania someday, then that’s freakin’ awesome. But my career could take me to the Tokyo Dome or someplace else, and that’s why I left when I did. I have the chance to go out and do what I want to do. “
