Helmut Marko has explained the timing of the puzzling photo of Sergio Perez which was taken in Abu Dhabi several days before the Mexican was announced as Red Bull’s 2021 driver.

In the group shot published on the Friday after the Abu Dhabi GP on Horner’s Instagram account, a beaming Perez is surrounded by Marko and the Red Bull Racing team boss.

However, some astute internet peeps noticed that the background of the picture featured curtains from the Yas Marina track hotel.

But the forensic work didn’t stop there, with followers also remarking that Perez was wearing the same clothes that he was wearing when he conducted a helmet exchange with Sebastian Vettel on the Sunday evening after race!

The inevitable conclusion was that the group shot with Marko and Horner had most likely also been taken in Abu Dhabi on the Sunday evening, leading to speculation that Red Bull had actually sealed its deal with Perez well before its announcement on the Friday after the final event of the season.

But then why did Horner continue to entertain the doubt for several days, insisting the team was in the process of “analyzing the data” before making its final call on whether to keep Alex Albon or hire Perez?

Marko offered an explanation, denying a deal was signed and sealed with its new driver at the time the picture was taken.

“A photo has nothing to do with signing a contract,” Marko told Motorsport.com.

“It was a social meeting and at that time, nothing was one hundred percent definite. We took the photo in case it became definite. Signatures can be done electronically these days.”

Marko said he couldn’t remember whether the picture had been taken on Sunday evening or Monday morning. But Perez’s clothes likely provide the answer to that question, unless the Mexican is in the habit of wearing the attire two days in a row.

“I honestly don’t remember exactly, it was a turbulent weekend,” claimed an unconvincing Marko. “And the opportunity was there because, after all, we weren’t allowed out of the hotel because of the COVID-19 regulations.”

Marko admitted there were enough clues in the picture to allow the internet bloodhounds to trace the shot.

“Perez was wearing the same shirt as when Vettel handed over his helmet,” he smiled. “That gave us away rather than the curtains.”

Update On Who Is In The Running To Buy TNA

December 30, 2020 | News | No Comments

Former WWE creative team member Court Bauer appeared on the LAW podcast this week and spoke about the parties interested in purchasing TNA, which includes Spike TV, Jeff Jarrett, Eric Bischoff and an unnamed celebrity. Here are some highlights of what Bauer said about the potential buyers:

Jeff Jarrett: “Jeff has gotten together a few individuals who could possibly fund the buying of TNA. He’s been good with getting investors in the past, see Ring Ka King and he’s one of the few guys who can find the finance for projects. We don’t know what the company is earning right now, so Jeff is trying to assess the weaknesses, how to run the business and has been on the sidelines looking in. Back when Jeff ran the company before, we hardly heard of any issues with money or payouts. Jeff is the better solution right now.”

“Dixie has no real involvement in this sale. She might at this point only be a on-air talent right now, as i’ve not heard of anything involving her backstage”

Eric Bischoff: “Eric Bischoff is another interested party. Eric and ‘his people’ would probably be in the mix to finance a move”

The Mystery Celebrity: “”The third, is someone I can’t mention by name, but this is the kind of person who does have money. It could be a step down for them, and its probably not a great company for them to marry up to. Their “Wrestling IQ” is that of someone who knows enough to be ‘dangerous’. I use the word ‘celebrity’ lightly here.”

Spike TV: “Would Spike be interested in this? That would be my choice. But you have to look at Bellator and that wasn’t a great investment. I don’t know what TNA would be worth, but lets look at what WCW went for. Speaking of which, what about Vince & WWE? It would be counter productive. What does it do for the industry? Vince isn’t in the same place, where he was with WCW. He has to be careful with what he does in Wrestling. Would he be tempted? Doubtful. None of these suitors really have the funds to go after WWE. What would they do TNA anyway? Its probably better for them to push NXT instead. Would they put it on the WWE Network Exclusively? Maybe TNA want more then WWE rate the company is worth. WWE Could be a suitor, buts its unlikely.”

“They might just keep hold of the company too for now too. They might just keep trucking along for another few years. This might happen tomorrow, or next year or never. Its all to be determined”.

– WWE continues to highlight the legendary career of Hulk Hogan. “The Hulkster” is currently featured on the front page of WWE.com, as rare photos of the iconic wrestler are being showcased again. Also, the company’s YouTube account just released a clip from last year’s nWo: The Revolution video release of Kevin Nash, Billy Kidman, Jimmy Hart, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes discussing Hogan’s infamous heel turn at Bash at the Beach in 1996.

WWE highlighting Hogan’s career online is not an indication that he’s coming back to the promotion. Joey Styles, WWE’s Vice President of Digital Media Content, revealed in an interview with VOC Nation last month that the Hall of Famer was intentionally placed on the front page last month as means to build traffic after news surfaced that his contract with TNA Wrestling had contract expired.

“Nobody at WWE.com knows if the (front office) is talking to Hulk Hogan,” Styles said. “But it’s out there on every other site; we know that fans are thinking it, so why wouldn’t we use all of the videos and content that we own and use it on the site to build traffic and entertain the fans?”

– WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee is once again a member of the Raw roster. The home page of the WWE App, however, has not been updated as she is still featured on the SmackDown graphic (below CM Punk representing Raw).
