Parmi les stars attendues, Christine and The Queens, Ariana Grande ou encore Diplo.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says he’s surprised by Red Bull’s strong response to his recent comments on the team’s Honda power unit.

The Japanese manufacturer supplied new power units to Red Bull and AlphaTauri last week in France and the change coincided with a boost in straight-line speed of the former’s RB16B.

After Max Verstappen’s win on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton suggested that Red Bull had used a new and improved engine, a comment echoed by Wolff who said that Mercedes’ rival had made “a huge step forward with their power unit”.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said he was baffled by the suggestions, reminding Mercedes that all engines were homologated once and for all at the start of the season and that upgrades are not allowed.

Wolff clarified his comment, while Red Bull pointed to the RB16B’s rear wing as the source of the car’s strong straight-line speed.

After snatching pole on Saturday at the Red Bull Ring, Verstappen was asked about the performance of Honda’s engine at higher altitudes.

The Dutchman responded tongue-in-cheek by saying that he would supply a “print out” to the media to prove that the bulls straight-line speed gains are due to the RB16B’s rear wing set-up rather than its power unit.

But Wolff wondered why Red Bull felt the need to repeatedly protest his benign comments from last week and keep the topic on the table.

“I wonder why that is such a topic, when we all know that the power units need to be homologated,” Wolff said.

“I’m really surprised that the Red Bull guys keep protesting so loudly on the power unit story. So that is a bit weird.

“The rules are very clear. It’s homologated, you can come up with reliability fixes, and that’s it.

“Obviously there are certain things you can clean up, but you have your tokens and you need to use them, and that’s it.

“So there shouldn’t be any power advantage as such.”

Wolff followed up by saying that a strong engine wasn’t the only factor behind Red Bull’s current superiority over Mercedes.

“It’s always the interaction between a strong power unit, lots of downforce and making the tyres work,” he said. “And I think they are just doing a very good job.

“We’ve already seen it in Ricard where they were able to run a smaller wing whilst not losing a lot through the twisty bit. So overall just a very strong package.”

Charles Leclerc will line up seventh on Sunday’s French Grand Prix grid, but the Monegasque admitted to struggling in qualifying to get around a front tyre issue impacting Ferrari.

After securing pole position in the last two races, Leclerc dismissed a hat trick in France as F1 returned to a traditional track that was unlikely to favour Ferrari.

But in Saturday’s qualifying shootout, the Scuderia charger was unable to match the performance of his teammate Carlos Sainz clocked in P5 at the end of Q3.

Both men complained at Paul Ricard of a lack of grip at the front end of their SF21 and a tendency to overcook the front tyres, but Sainz appeared to adapt to the issue better than Leclerc.

“I just couldn’t drive around the limitation that we’ve had a little bit all weekend, struggling a little bit with the front,” Leclerc explained.

“But to be honest, it’s more coming from me than from the car. It’s a limitation that Carlos and I had, and Carlos just did a better job driving around that issue, and I just struggled in qualifying to drive around it.

“It’s more something that is coming from me that I will analyse after qualifying, and to understand what I could have done better with my driving to help a little bit the car today.”

Despite his struggles, the two-time Grand Prix winner was nevertheless satisfied with his final run in qualifying.

“I was actually pretty happy with my last lap in Q3, because before that it was a disaster,” he said. “I was very, very far off.

“Then in Q3, I managed to find a little bit of time. It wasn’t enough, but I could find a little bit more time.”

“With the front wing we took quite a big step, a lot more aggressive than what we normally do. I found a little bit of performance in that, in my driving too I was trying to change a few things, and it paid off.”

After qualifying, Ferrari racing director Laurent Mekies predicted a “long and difficult” Sunday afternoon for the Italian outfit.

“Tomorrow’s race will be long and difficult, with tyre behaviour playing a crucial role,” he said.

“On this front, the top ten are all starting on the same compound so we will be fighting on equal terms.

“We know our race pace is not as good as we would like at the moment, but we will prepare well tonight and tomorrow and will continue to do so over the coming weeks, in order to give our drivers an ever more competitive package.”

Fred Rosser has announced he has signed an exclusive agreement with NJPW.

Rosser confirmed the news on Twitter this afternoon, writing: “I’m excited to officially announce I’ve signed W/ NJPW! All I can say moving forward is, don’t ever let your dreams just be dreams because as long as you’re patient & believe in your dreams, anything is possible. Patience is a talent.”

Since last year, Rosser has regularly competed on NJPW Strong, a show that features talent from New Japan of America that is taped in the United States. Earlier this year, he competed in the New Japan Cup USA tournament, qualifying after he defeated JR Kratos. However, he lost to Hikuleo in the first round. He later defeated Hikuelo in a no disqualification match.

Prior to NJPW, Rosser had been with WWE, signing in 2009. He was most well known for his time in the Nexus stable, and later teamed with Titus O’Neil as the Prime Time Players. He was released from his WWE contract in 2017. He has also recently made appearances for the NWA.
