As reported by L’Équipe, tensions are rising between new Marseille coach Igor Tudor and his squad with the players unsure and unsettled over Tudor’s methods who is refusing to engage in any diplomacy with his team.

One source inside the OM camp told the paper that some players see this pre-season as their hardest ever and that “Tudor is sometimes cold and he’s undone everything Sampaoli did, the style, the atmosphere, and the squad are finding it difficult to switch to the opposite extreme.”

Meanwhile, another source told the paper that, in summary, Tudor effectively told his squad when he arrived: “’You don’t run enough, you don’t work enough and you don’t play as you should,’” while the squad don’t understand Tudor’s desire to change everything previous coach Jorge Sampaoli had established after they finished second in Ligue 1 last season.

Concerned, Dimitri Payet has asked for a meeting between the squad and the president Pablo Longoria but he’s still waiting for an answer from Longoria who fears undermining his coach, especially since OM picked Tudor partly for his rigour and disciplinarian attitude.

However, a meeting between Tudor and his squad will take place today to try and ease tensions. The staff sees only 80% or 90% of the squad to be following Tudor’s ideas while the club’s management have offered to sell multiple players who aren’t meeting Tudor’s standards if necessary.

Handre Pollard scored his first try for Leicester Tigers against Sale Sharks in their Premiership clash, but the Springbok fly-half was replaced soon afterwards.

Pollard joined the Premiership champions from Montpellier at the start of the season and made just his second appearance for the club on Friday after suffering an injury setback on his debut back in October.

Try scoring return

The 28-year-old earned his first start for the Tigers against Sale after debuting off the bench against Saracens two months ago.

With Leicester trailing 16-0 at half-time, Pollard broke the deadlock for the visiting side when he intercepted a pass from fellow Springbok Robert du Preez and raced away to score his first Premiership try in the 46th minute.

The World Cup winner is struggling for match fitness, and it showed as he gingerly got back to his feet after scoring the try and was replaced by interim head coach Richard Wigglesworth soon after.

Things went from bad to worse for Leicester from there, as they would go on to lose the match 40-5.

Leicester’s injury woes

It was a tough night for the Leicester faithful, with Anthony Watson, Guy Porter, Olly Cracknell, Freddie Burns, and Pollard all leaving the pitch with injuries or niggles.

While Pollard looked uncomfortable after scoring, Wigglesworth said after the game that they had planned that the Springbok would only play half the match and that the Tigers kept him on the pitch for as long as they could.

“Handre was only due to play 40 minutes, but we managed him for as long as we could,” he said.

“He’s new to this team and new to us, but you can see his class. He will only get better and better for us.”

Wigglesworth felt that his side did not make the most of their opportunities and that, paired with the injury toll and the performance from Sale, was just too much.

“The injuries started to pile up in the second half, and that was to prove costly in the end,” he added.

“It felt a bit like we were on the back foot for most of the second half.

“The injuries are concerning for us, but at least that opens opportunities for others now – that’s how we’ve got to look at it.

“There were players playing out of position in the end, but players were doing things they shouldn’t necessarily be doing, and this is what happens.

“Sale are a quality side, and they’re up where they are in the table for a reason.

“Fair play to them; they made life extremely difficult for us on a tough night.”

Rayan Cherki set to renew contract with Lyon

March 30, 2023 | News | No Comments

L’Équipe report today that Lyon forward Rayan Cherki is closing in on a contract extension with his formative club, with further talks between his entourage and the club to take place today.

The 18-year-old’s current deal will expire at the end of the upcoming season. Lyon had set this weekend as a deadline for a response to their contract offer. Had Cherki turned it down, the club would have turned their attention to engineering a sale before the end of the window, although this was nobody’s preferred option at Lyon.

Not least Jean-Michel Aulas, with the club president personally taking charge of the talks, which had appeared to be going nowhere but over time gained ground. In June, Aulas was publicly indicating that he was confident Cherki would be staying.

The player’s team had made it clear that his salary – currently €200,000 a month – was not the main issue at play, but rather the playing time that he would be guaranteed under Peter Bosz. A new contract would run until 2027, the same length as his fellow academy graduate Maxence Caqueret, who has been looking to convince him to stay.

Cherki made 16 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, although he missed most of the second half of the campaign with a foot injury. Overall, he has played 63 times for OL since making his debut at just 16, scoring nine and assisting ten goals during that time.

During today’s press conference held by Marseille president Pablo Longoria, the Spaniard took the opportunity to reveal a key message that he conveyed to the players during a meeting with Igor Tudor where he reaffirmed some key principles related to the club’s hierarchy:

Whilst gesticulating different levels with his hands, Longoria affirmed : “There is the club. There is the coach. And then there are the players. Yesterday, we reminded them of all of these things.”

As reported by La Provence, led by captain Dimitri Payet, Marseille’s players held a crunch meeting with the club’s management, including new coach Igor Tudor, last night to air their concerns over the manager’s methods.

The meeting lasted around 100 minutes and opened with president Pablo Longoria addressing the squad, reminding the players of the importance of the collective and the responsibility that comes with playing for a club like Marseille. Longoria was keen not to let rising tensions get out of hand after various players had complained over Tudor’s confrontational style and extremely intense pre-season regime.

In Paris Saint-Germain’s efforts to sign midfielder Renato Sanches – with whom they have had an agreement in principle over personal terms in place since last month – the club are pushing for a deal in the form of a loan with an obligatory permanent clause, according to sources contacted by Get French Football News.

Although the former Bayern Munich man wants to go to the Ligue 1 champions, his current team Lille are more inclined to sell to Milan, who have come in with an offer for a permanent deal. The Rossoneri’s offer amounts to €12m, whereas the PSG bid is set at €15m including bonuses.

As a result of this situation, any progress on a prospective transfer has been at a standstill for the last two weeks. Sanches had previously rejected the Serie A winners’ advances in favour of Paris.

With just one year left on his current deal, the 24-year-old – who made 25 appearances in an injury-ridden campaign last year – could well be on the move this summer, but whether that will be in France or Italy remains to be seen.

New Zealand, England to contest RWC final

March 28, 2023 | News | No Comments

England and New Zealand have booked their places in the women's Rugby World Cup final, with both celebrating nailbiting semi-final wins at Auckland's Eden Park.Abby Dow's breathtaking length-of-the-field breakaway try 10 minutes into the second half was decisive for England as they beat Canada 26-19 in Saturday's opening last-four clash. In the day's second match, France five-eighth Caroline Drouin missed a last-gasp penalty asNew Zealand claimed a 25-24 thriller in what the Kiwis coach Wayne Smith described as an "unbelievable ending".With a shot awarded in front after Santo Taumata was yellow-carded for a high tackle, Drouin shanked her kick left as New Zealand made a great escape in front of a roaring crowd."I'm proud. I don't think people realise how much difference (the support) makes to us on the field," New Zealand's co-captain Ruahei Demant said.  "Our families and our country are supporting. People are coming out to support women and women's rugby like never before."Down 17-10 at halftime, the Black Ferns charged into the lead through tries to Ruby Tui and Theresa Fitzpatrick.France No.8 Romane Menager scored two tries, her second pulling the French within a point with 14 minutes left. But a yellow card for forward Safi N'Diaye for a high tackle proved costly for France before Drouin's late miss sealed their fate. Earlier, less than seven months after breaking her right leg playing for England against Wales, Dow capped a move that started behind her own try line to break Canada's resistance and send the tournament favourites to a record-extending 30th consecutive win. With England 18-12 to the good, the Canadians had been camped on their opponent's line, with several players going close to nabbing a crucial score.England eventually forced a turnover and set in motion a flowing move that ended with Dow racing from near halfway to touch down a memorable matchwinner."It was incredible," England captain Sarah Hunter said."Canada really tested us, for rugby fans I hope that was an advertisement for what women's rugby is all about."Canada were relentless and the girls put their bodies on the line." England, who last won the title in 2014 when they defeated the Canadians in France, will be appearing in the final for the sixth tournament in a row and eighth time in total. "I am proud of the girls," Canada head coach Kevin Rouet said of his side, who now look forward to the third-place play-off. "It's about details and England were better than us on details. "There are more than a few missed opportunities for us. We'll be back."Hosts New Zealand will play England in the final at Eden Park on Saturday 12 November at 5.30pm AEDT. Click Here: st kilda saints guernsey 2019

Paris Saint-Germain have this afternoon released their squad list for the first match of the Ligue 1 campaign against Clermont on Saturday night, with forward Kylian Mbappé the notable exclusion.

The Frenchman has picked up an adductor issue, and as a result will not travel with the rest of his teammates. Another update on his recovery will be made on Monday, ahead of the match against Montpellier the following weekend.

Last season’s player of the year was also absent from the 4-0 Trophée des Champions win over Nantes in Tel-Aviv last week, having been ruled out due to suspension, with an accumulation of yellow cards from last year carrying over into the new season.

Aside from Mbappé, the PSG squad to kick the campaign off has no other absences due to injury, with Lionel Messi and Neymar both hoping to carry over their impressive pre-season form into Saturday to hit the ground running for their title defence.

Ex-F1 driver Jerome D’Ambrosio has joined Mercedes as its driver development director, but the Belgian will have an opportunity to grow within the team’s organization according to Toto Wolff.

D’Ambrosio has taken over the responsibilities previously assumed by now Williams team boss James Vowles with regard to Mercedes’ junior driver programme and the management of its young talent. But the three-time Formula E winner will also oversee simulator driver development at Brackley.

However, D’Ambrosio won’t be on his own as he’ll be working alongside long-standing Mercedes-AMG driver development advisor Gwen Lagrue.

“He’s looking after the young driver programme in very close cooperation with Gwen [Lagrue], who has been doing it very successfully over the last few years,” explained Wolff, quoted by RaceFans.

“With Gwen’s team we are looking at grassroots motorsports from the early stages of go-karts. This is where Gwen is very active, he was the one working with James, and now within the Brackley structure it’s Jerome who has taken that over.

“He’s looking at things and there’s plenty of plenty of scope that James did beyond the strategy work. So I see Jerome growing in the organisation, but at this stage, that’s his area.”

D’Ambrosio and the Wolff family are well acquainted as the Belgian worked under the orders of Susie Wolff during his tenure as team principal of the Monaco-based Venturi Formula E squad, for which the Scot was the acting CEO.

But the relationship between Toto Wolff and D’Ambrosio also goes back to the Belgian’s early years as a young driver.

“I have known Jerome since a long time, because back in the day when he was in the Renault driver development [programme], I thought about managing him,” explained the Austrian.

“So it’s 15 or 20 years ago, and then we had a look again at him when he dropped out of the programme. So I’ve known him as a racing driver, but never from the human standpoint, and never from the managerial side.

“When Susie offered him the option to jump out of the cockpit into a management role, he took it with both hands and they were quite a good competitive duo, and Jerome led it into another year and finished second in the FE championship.”

Wolff alluded to D’Ambrosio’s involvement with Mercedes potentially leading to a promising career within the team’s management structure.

“He has the knowhow of having been a racing driver at a very high level. He was a go-karting world champion.

“He’s been in F1 and on the other side, the skills as a manager. Where that will lead him is a question.

“Today it’s at a very early stage. He is just coming in the driver development part and administrative functions. And we shall see where that goes.”

Cheika's Pumas stun England with shock win

March 23, 2023 | News | No Comments

Michael Cheika has won his latest all-Australian coaching duel with his pal Eddie Jones, leading his Argentina side to a rare triumph at Twickenham over England.Winger Emiliano Boffelli scored 25 points as the Pumas shocked a misfiring England 30-29 on Sunday to claim their first win at Twickenham since 2006 and end a 10-game losing streak against the team they'll face in their opening game at the World Cup.Boffelli scored a superb try and kicked six penalties, while Santiago Carreras also crossed as the Pumas went toe to toe with the favourites on a horrible wet day to give them a huge boost ahead of next September's Marseille clash."We said at halftime that we must stay close in the score, then we got two tries," Boffelli said. "Our attitude was important. To score 25 points at Twickenham is great. The whole team did their job."The breakthrough triumph ended a proud weekend for Cheika, who had coached a similarly brave and committed performance from Lebanon's rugby league team in the World Cup quarter-final defeat to Australia on Friday.Since July under Cheika, Argentina have beaten the All Blacks in New Zealand for the first time, won a long overdue home series against Scotland, and led the Rugby Championship for the first time.England's much-heralded combination of Marcus Smith, Owen Farrell and Manu Tuilagi barely featured and the home side committed far too many errors."We talked about some issues we had on the field that we didn't address, we can't drop confidence because of this," Farrell said."The penalties stopped our momentum. We weren't at our best and that's what we are here to do."England, who led 16-12 at halftime, scored through Joe Cokanasiga and Jack van Poortvliet but showed precious little attacking invention and kept the visitors in the game with a succession of penalty offences and handling errors. After a cagey opening quarter England eventually struck off a scrum in the 26th minute as recalled winger Cokanasiga powered his burly frame over from close range to take his international try tally to 12 in 13 appearancesArgentina had not done much with the ball but stayed in touch via four Boffelli penalties and with Farrell landing three, England, wearing their new black strip, edged the largely forgettable half. The Pumas cut loose seven minutes after the break as they fizzed the ball across the backline to allow Boffelli to slide in at the corner.Five minutes later they scored a second when Carreras seized on a loose ball to run 50 metres and score. Farrell claimed his misplaced pass had been knocked on but the TMO view ruled otherwise.England hit back quickly through Van Poortvliet, who showed great pace and determination a minute after coming on to replace Ben Youngs at scrumhalf. Farrell converted to make it a one point game going into the final 20 minutes.Twickenham sat back for an expected home surge, but though they briefly got their noses in front, England failed to take command as two penalties apiece kept Argentina ahead. The Pumas controlled the final five minutes superbly to claim the win.Click Here: Custom stamp die mold and Product

Foot Mercato report this morning that Nice have stepped up their efforts to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, having submitted an opening offer worth €20m for the Ukrainian, which has been turned down.

The left-winger is also the subject of interest from Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen, and favours a move to the Bundesliga side, even if Shakhtar are intent on keeping him and neither of the three clubs linked have given up on the chase just yet.

The Premier League side were initially interested in Mudryk back in January but were put off by his asking price of €24m, while the move to Germany was being held up by visa issues.

Mudryk, dubbed the “Ukrainian Neymar”, has made 26 appearances so far for his formative club and has been a senior Ukraine international since this year .

He scored two goals and registered seven assists in 11 domestic league appearances last year, and notably featured in the Champions League group stage campaign which saw the team face Inter and Real Madrid.
