NJPW Announces Full Match Card For Sakura Genesis; Okada Defends, Ospreay vs Scurll, Golden Lovers & More

New Japan Pro Wrestling has released the full match card for this weekend’s big Sakura Genesis event at Ryogoku Sumo Hall.

As expected, Kazuchika Okada will put his record-breaking IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign on the line against the winner of the 2018 New Japan Cup, Zack Sabre Jr. This will be the British technical wizard’s first ever attempt at the title, but should Okada retain he will tie Hiroshi Tanahashi’s impressive 11-win record for most successful title defenses in a single run.

Will Ospreay will also defend the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship against his arch rival and the man who has had his number for years – “The Villain” Marty Scurll. The old saying goes, “There are three things for certain in this world: death, taxes, and Scurll beats Ospreay.” Will the tradition continue, or can young William overcome his greatest foe to cement himself as one of the all-time great junior heavyweights in New Japan?

Sakura Genesis will also see more infighting between members of Bullet Club. Just one week ahead of ROH Supercard of Honor, Kenny Omega will team with Kota Ibushi to take on Cody Rhodes and Hangman Page. Plus the Young Bucks will take on fellow faction members and “honorary Tongans” Yujiro Takahashi and Chase Owens.
