In this weekly feature, GFFN Chief Features Writer Eric Devin and veteran GFFN contributor Jeremy Smith face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Game of the Week: Bordeaux v Metz – Sunday Noon (UK)

Eric: The relegation six-pointer defined. A draw will do neither of these sides, who enter the weekend four points off the relegation play-off spot, any good, but expect a good deal of caution from both nonetheless. Bordeaux, despite the recent unrest at their ground, will likely benefit from playing at home, and should have enough about them to squeeze past a spirited Metz side.

Jeremy: Arguably the biggest two matches this week are at the bottom of the table. Lorient vs Saint-Etienne could decide who takes the relegation play-off place while, sadly, Bordeaux-Metz may turn out only to decide who finishes bottom and second-bottom. Such is the form of both teams that one betting company this week gave odds on both teams to lose! Both teams have woeful 2022 from, with one win each, although Metz edge it with four draws to Bordeaux’s three. Needless to say, both sets of players’ confidence is low and both sets of fans are furious. Although Metz’s away record this season is slightly better than Bordeaux’s at home, goal scoring remains a huge issue (four in 2022) and certain Metz players look like they have long since mentally-checked out. Bordeaux themselves have not scored since February, but this should be the perfect match for coach David Guion to begin to try to turn things around.
