Georgia Soldier Killed In U.S. Army Training Exercise

FORT CAMPBELL, KY — A soldier from Georgia died earlier this week in a training exercise at Fort Campbell, the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) said on its Facebook page.
Pvt. 2nd Class Jeremy J. Wells, 19, of Adairsville, Ga., died Wednesday “as a result of a training incident,” the Division said in a statement. The Army said Wells was taking part in weapons training at a small arms range around 2 p.m. Aug 1. at the base when the incident took place.
He treated at the scene “immediately,” and was transported to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on Fort Campbell where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the incident. No other soldiers were injured.

“101st Combat Aviation Brigade has lost an incredible member of the Destiny family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of this soldier,” said Lt. Col. Cayton Johnson, commander, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (Rear), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). “We ask that everyone respect the privacy of his family as they grieve this tragic loss.”
Wells was an aircraft electrician in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. He joined the Army in 2017, and completed training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Fort Eustis, Virginia, before arriving to Fort Campbell in 2018. He has been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Basic Aviation Badge. The soldier was also posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
