Speaking in an interview with RMC Sport, Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman admitted his frustration following a 3-2 home loss against PSG.

“PSG were very efficient, we missed our chances. We had a good performance but we will need to try to make as few mistakes as possible at this level. We remain confident, we know what we can do. If we put the goals away in the 2nd leg, I think we will do it. You must not concede 3 goals at home. We are going to give our all in the 2nd leg. Mbappé? This is the top level, he was super effective today. We will have all the necessary motivation, we are going to give everything to win at theirs. It really hurts to lose today at home but we are going to pick ourselves back up for the 2nd leg.”

Pierre Hurmic, Mayor of Bordeaux, on Friday announced to media that the mayor’s office was in touch with two potential buyers for the Ligue 1 club after it was announced on Thursday that its owners, King Street, were refusing to put any further money into the club, resulting in Les Girondins being placed under the commercial protection of a specialised court.

Pierre Hurmic said that local authorities were looking for an owner whose “attachment to the club, the love of football and the territory around the club.”

Today, Rennes owner and French billionaire François Pinault, called on owners of Bordeaux’s most prestigious vineyards, to step up and save the club from administration.

“Like all French people in love with football, the idea that the Girondins de Bordeaux could disappear makes me emotional. As someone from Brittany and the owner of Stade Rennais, for decades I have seen how much the identity of a club and, if possible, its success, is part of the social contract in a region. Associated with Bordeaux life for 30 years, through Château Latour, I think the existence of the legendary Girondins club is important for Bordeaux, its influence, with which all vineyard owners can identify.”

“What is the economic force which, in this region, can give itself the objective of saving the team and developing it? The world of wine and in particular the owners of great vintages. I therefore call on my fellow owners to meet in order to prepare a plan to take over the Girondins. The rules on club ownership prevent me from setting up a plan to take over the Girondins myself, since my group is the sole shareholder of Stade Rennais. On the other hand, I am ready to lend my support to any operation mounted by the vineyard owners and I will do so with enthusiasm.”

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, Marseille President Pablo Longoria claimed that the talent formation process in French setups is too individualistic and it is responsible for major footballing brain drain out of the country.

“One of the problems we have in France is that we do a very individualistic type of youth formation, and I am happy to repeat that without any problem. The question is, why do we have so many talents and why do they go abroad? Is the integration of French players different from how other countries do so? There is a stronger individualism. It could be an explanation for the difficulties that French coaches have abroad… The players have their own nutritionists, physiotherapists… You sometimes get the impression that you are sitting opposite a tennis player.”

“This is an open debate where everyone is free to have their opinion. It is more a reflection I have had on very pertinent questions that deserve to be thought about. We are 8th in the UEFA ranking (this season), we have 7.500 points. We have to ask questions, why are we in this position? With the reform (UCL to be enacted in 2024), it is important to be in the top 5. I am not attacking French coaches, I have a lot of respect, but we must reflect on these things.”

Speaking in a statement relayed by RMC Sport, ex-Lille Sporting Director Luis Campos went on the record to clear up speculation that he could be working with Luxembourg businessman Gérard Lopez in a new project.

“For several months, I have made the decision not to speak out. By certain speculation has pushed me to do so this Friday. For the record, my professional relationship with Gérard Lopez is finished. It has been for several months already, and this matter is currently being managed by my lawyers. Yes, there are a number of rumours out there about my professional future – which is typical at this stage of the season. But I want to say very clearly that I have so far not made any decision at all about my professional future.”

“We undertook things in an extremely professional way, with a lot of ethics. I want to say on this that in March, I was approached to meet with Christophe Galtier. From an ethical and professional standpoint, I never meet with a manager before the end of a league season. So we refused in March to move forward on the matter. After, we defined a number of priorities. Peter (Bosz) and others were part of that. We met them. But you cannot hire a manager who has maybe already signed a contract and who is, as well, still under contract with his original club, who are champions of France. We looked at this solution and at the same time, we made contact with Peter. There was a third candidate, a foreign manager who speaks French. We were never concerned.”

RMC Sport report that 30-year-old Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum will undergo a medical with PSG tomorrow ahead of signing a 3-year contract with the club, in a deal that will be completed before the Euros gets underway in a matter of days.

The medical will take place in the Dutch national team camp, administered by a member of the PSG medical staff. Contrary to reporting in Italy and Spain, Wijnaldum is not earning double at PSG compared to what Barcelona offered, but the proposal was somewhat improved on what the Catalan giants were offering, just not to that extent.

Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on Monday night confirmed the hire of French manager Christophe Galtier following weeks of negotiations with Lille about acquiring his services.

The Ligue 1 title-winning manager joins the INEOS project in a major coup for Les Aiglons and is understood to have signed a 3-year deal with the club.

OGC Nice paid Lille just under €5m in order to purchase the final year of Galtier’s contract – sources at Lille tell Get French Football News that the deal is the biggest ever inter-Ligue 1 transfer fee for a manager.

L’Alsace report that Julien Stéphan’s Strasbourg side has pulled out of a deal to sign 36-year-old French central defender Daniel Congré on a free transfer owing to concerns around his fitness.

The ex-Montpellier man is suffering an injury which will keep him out of action for another 4 weeks and RCSA claim that they were looking for someone who could be fit and ready immediately.

Although Congré appeared to undergo a medical with relative success, the Strasbourg medical staff were forced to recommend that the player would be out of action for another month.

Congré still has interest from 2 Ligue 2 clubs.
