Ligue 1 21/22, Round 32 – 17/4/22

PSG – 2 (Neymar 12, Mbappé 45)

Gianluigi Donnarumma, 3 – He looked shaky in possession when he was asked to play as more like an outfield player on occasion and his unneeded and unsuccessful flap at Payet’s corner resulted in the equaliser.

Achraf Hakimi, 5

Presnel Kimpembe, 5

Marquinhos, 5

Nuno Mendes, 6

Marco Verratti, 6

Danilo Pereira, 4

Idrissa Gana Gueye, 4

Kylian Mbappé, 4 – He fired home the penalty to win the game but his finishing was erratic besides that and he might have had a couple more, were his sights properly aligned.

Neymar, 7 – It’s interesting to see a change in body language since home fans started booing him and reports emerged that QSI are unhappy with his commitment. This was another more focused and efficient display, despite PSG having nothing to play for. Faded in the second half but did well to poke home the opener and won the penalty.

Lionel Messi, 5

Others: Ramos 5, Icardi 5, Wijnaldum 5.MARSEILLE – 1 (Ćaleta-Car 31)

Pau López, 3 – Mandanda’s form and discussion that the OM veteran could replace him seems to have unsettled the keeper. His passing was hit and miss, especially given that his technical ability is Sampaoli’s reason for persisting with him over Mandanda. His poor positioning resulted in the opener.

William Saliba, 6 – His passing was excellent for long periods in an odd game that was played largely in Marseille’s half but with OM in possession, and largely defended well against Mbappé, Messi and Neymar.

Luan Peres, 6

Duje Ćaleta-Car, 7 – Although he wasn’t quite as courageous on the ball as Saliba, he defended astutely throughout and his last-ditch challenge on Mbappé in the second half was key to keeping OM in it. He was also on hand to tap home for 1-1.

Valentin Rongier, 3

Pape Gueye, 5

Boubacar Kamara, 5

Mattéo Guendouzi, 6 – A typically irksome Guendouzi display, even if he was unable to offer too much going forward due to the pattern of play. He battled for everything and enjoyed a feisty midfield scrap with Verratti throughout.

Gerson, 5

Dimitri Payet, 5

Cengiz Ünder, 3

Others: Lirola 5, Bakambu 5, Dieng 5, Harit 6.

Scores after week six:JEREMY: 34ERIC: 36

Game of the Week: Monaco v Nice, Wednesday, 6pm (UK)

Jeremy: Although the intriguing clash between Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne could go some way to determining whether one of those fallen giants could be relegated, the stand-out match of this midweek is Monaco against Nice. The Riviera derby is generally good value but, with Champions League places up for grabs and the hosts just one point behind fourth-placed Nice, this one has added significance. Despite the usual disruption off the pitch with Monaco owner Dimitry Rybolovlev unsettling Oleg Petrov, Paul Mitchell and coach Paul Clement, amid reports the club’s hierarchy could be overhauled, the playing side is going well, with four straight wins – the latest a very impressive victory at Rennes. Nice’s 2-1 win over Lorient was their first victory since early March and they remain far from convincing. With goals shared around, Wissam Ben Yedder on fire and even Myron Boadu finally finding some form, Monaco may well have leapfrogged their local rivals by Wednesday evening.

Eric: Monaco, having won four matches on the trot in the league, are the division’s form team, and looks to be brimming with confidence after a tough away win against Rennes on Friday. Boosted by their home crowd, they should be good value to make it five here, between having had an extra two days of rest and given their form and confidence. Meanwhile, Nice’s struggles to put the ball in the net have too often been laid bare this season.

Journalist Nabil Djellit reports that Paris Saint-Germain player Alexandre Fressange, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has attracted interest from Belgium as well as Serie B side Benevento.

The 21-year-old right winger has not appeared in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this season despite being tied down to a professional contract, having only played in a friendly last summer against Augsburg.

As the Cameroon youth international is too old to be playing in the U19 team, he trains with the youth team but has not played a match for a year and a half. He made 7 appearances in the Youth League in the 2019/20 season.

With his time at PSG up in several months, Fressange could now find himself bouncing back either in Belgium or in Italy.

After another shining performance in AS Monaco’s 2-0 win against SCO Angers, manager Philippe Clement tipped Youssouf Fofana (23) for a future place in the French national team set-up in the post-match press conference.

The Belgian manager said, “I see his potential, which he is proving more and more. For me, he has the potential to be in the French national team in the future. That would be interesting, Aurélien Tchouaméni (22) and Youssouf (Fofana) together, but there is a lot of competition in this position. He now needs to stay focused and do good things on the pitch.”

“I was very clear with him during some video sessions together and he has learnt good things. He is still a young player, but he is someone who has a lot of desire to improve.”

Fofana has registered four assists this season and has been an essential pillar of Monaco’s return to form in recent weeks.

Dismissed as too small and too slow, late-blooming Jock Campbell is in line for his Wallabies debut after being named on the bench for Saturday's spring tour-opening Test against Scotland.Coach Dave Rennie is promising the 27-year-old some game time as he continues his search for a World Cup fullback after using five custodians already in 2022.Tom Banks has first dibs on the position for the vital five-Test tour of Europe, back in for his first start for the Wallabies since breaking an arm during the first-Test loss to England in June. But Rennie and his fellow selectors are keen to see if Campbell is up to the physical rigours of Test rugby."It's a great story, isn't it. He wasn't part of an academy system. He's probably spent a fair chunk of his career with people telling him he's not fast enough, he's not big enough and he's on the verge of representing his country," Rennie said on Thursday night."He's had an outstanding year. He was excellent for Australia A and he deserves a crack."We're keen to get Jock in the mix."Campbell is the perfect Rugby story for any late bloomers, spending most of his time at school in the second XV before working his way through the grades at University of Queensland He has been forced to bide his time at each level before getting his shot, selected in the first Wallabies camp of 2022 after several strong seasons. After finally being named in the Wallabies side, Campbell's dream debut typically had one late hurdle to overcome after going down with an injury during the week.“He took the (selection) news with a Game Ready (wrap) on his ankle because he tripped over in the bloody gym and tweaked his ankle,” Rennie revealed.“He’s done everything he possibly can to get that right. He’s trained today and is as excited as Jock gets.”Rennie is also keen to see what more Reds teammate Tate McDermott can offer after naming the livewire Queenslander at halfback.Nic White and Jake Gordon will also get their opportunities as the Wallabies also face France, Ireland, Italy and Wales on a gruelling five-week campaign."We're going to rotate the nines a bit on tour. We're fortunate we've got three excellent nines and we're keen to give Tate an opportunity," Rennie said."He hasn't had much of a lick lately and he's trained really well with the Queensland boys over the last couple of weeks and I've had a chance to look at that first hand."We think he can bring something special. In Edinburgh at this time of the year, it's it's probably going to be gloomy and cold and damp but we think he can bring a real point of difference."Click Here: Cricket Shop

The two parties are set to meet in the Spanish capital, as the Paris Saint-Germain man’s forward remains up in the air with just over a month until his contract expires.

Le Parisien had yesterday reported that an agreement in principle had been reached over a renewal with PSG, which was subsequently denied by his mother Fayza Lamari, his main representative.

Yusuf Yazici’s Lille future undecided

July 27, 2023 | News | No Comments

As reported by Ignazio Genuardi, Yusuf Yazici (25), on loan at CSKA Moscow from Lille has an uncertain future. The Russian side are yet to trigger the buy option within the loan contract, and he is also garnering interest across the continent.

Genuardi reports that CSKA Moscow have requested an extension on the deadline by which they have to decide on the Turkish midfielder’s continuity at the club. Should they decide not to trigger the buy option, he is not short of suitors.

Clubs in Russia, Germany, England and Italy are all interested in a player that has scored 8 goals in 10 matches in the Russian Premier League this season, having joined on loan during the winter transfer window.

The France international indicated that there would be “discussions“, but that for the time being he was concentrating on the Nations League fixtures next month with Les Bleus.

“Honestly, like I’ve said before, I have no idea. The only concrete thing I know is that I am under contract until 2023. For now the future is unclear, because we know there will be discussions, of course.”

“Personally I’m going to try to rest up and then concentrate on the Nations League with France. It’s difficult to give an answer because as we saw tonight, this is an extraordinary club, I feel it deeply. It’s not just football, it’s everything around it, it’s in the heart, in the blood. If I was to leave it would hurt me, but that’s football, and if I stay it will be with great pleasure.”

Ligue 1 season to run from August to June

July 15, 2023 | News | No Comments

The LFP – French professional football’s governing body – has released its calendar for the 2022/23 season with the dates for France’s domestic competitions over the coming season.

The Ligue 1 season will start on the first weekend of August – nominally, Sunday 7th – and will run all the way up to the first weekend of June. The late ending is due to the World Cup, which will take place in the winter and force a month-and-a-half break.

As for the second tier, the first round of games will be played on the final weekend of July, and end on the same day as Ligue 1. No play-off will take place this year as Ligue 1 will be reduced to 18 teams the following season, meaning only 2 teams will go up and 4 down from the top tier.

The World Cup break will start after matchday 15 on November 13, and league action will resume 10 days after the final, on December 28.
