WWE COO Triple H took part in a media conference call on Wednesday afternoon to promote this Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II event at the Barclays Center.

Although most of the discussion centered around this Saturday’s live NXT special on the WWE Network, HHH also touched on the recent signings made as part of the new red-brand exclusive Cruiserweight division, which WWE has been advertising on RAW the past couple of weeks.

“We’re signing a lot of cruiserweights right now and I’m, you know, basically I’m creating a division,” said Triple H. “So, I’m going around and signing guys and I’m also keeping an eye towards the future as well.”

He continued, “I don’t need to have every single cruiserweight right now, I just need to have a decent amount. And they will be working NXT, they will be working NXT live events, and they’ll also be working Raw as cruiserweights. The opportunity is there to do both.”

Regarding Kota Ibushi, who has insisted that he is interested in working for WWE while continuing his work elsewhere as a true freelancer. Triple H mentioned that WWE is open to doing a variety of different things, but he seemed to be pretty firmly opposed to that arrangement.

Near the end of the call, the reports regarding WWE having their official Cruiserweight Title belt commissioned and ready to go, including the rumor that it will debut at the finals of the first-annual WWE Cruiserweight Classic (CWC) came up. Triple H was non-committal towards the latter, and instead of giving a direct answer, he opted for the generic, “You’ll have to wait and see!” response.

Triple H would then wrap up the media call, but not before including some final praise for all of the competitors who have been involved with their first ever Cruiserweight Classic tournament and referred to it as something WWE created that “is special.” He then said that the company is still deciding what and when the next opportunity will be.

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II takes place this Saturday, August 20th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and will air live on the WWE Network. The WWE Network is also the place to be if you want to catch the WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament, which is currently airing every Wednesday night.

Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff is expecting a tight battle between Valtteri Bottas and George Russell in Sunday’s Sakhir GP, but insists there will be no team orders directed at the two drivers.

Russell qualified just 0.026s behind Bottas in Saturday evening’s shootout around Sakhir’s 3.543km fast outer loop, a margin that frustrated the talented Mercedes stand-in.

But there will be all to play for under the floodlights in Bahrain, with Russell in the running, not only for his maiden championship points in F1, but also eventually for a sensational outright win.

“It will be certainly tight, but I don’t see any rivalry within our team,” Wolff said. “Valtteri is well-settled. There is nothing to prove for him.

“For George, it’s a little bit easier because there is no pressure at all. He has nothing to lose.

“And obviously [Max] Verstappen is not going to be happy that there is a new kid on the block that’s standing in front of him.

“George is on the worse line, as we’ve seen last weekend, and the cockpit is too small for him. The clutch pedals are too small too for his hands and his fingers.

“So really, I have the same expectation that I had for him for qualifying. He has confirmed what we thought of him.

“As I said before, impressed, but not surprised.”

After yesterday’s qualifying, Wolff was asked if Mercedes would resort to team orders to keep Bottas on top. But the Austrian said the team would approach the race with usual neutral stance.

“No, [they will be] free to race,” Wolff said. “That’s what we owe to everybody. Off the leash.”

– Mick Foley recently took to Facebook to comment on this Sunday’s Extreme Rules PPV. The WWE Hall of Famer wrote about the “Asylum” match between Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho, saying it may be a “big break” for Ambrose.

Here’s what Foley had to say on his official Facebook page:

SEEKING ASYLUM

Could this AsylumMatch at ExtremeRules be exactly what Dean Ambrose needs? Experience has taught me that a big break is often a series of smaller breaks – like a ball peen hammer tapping away at that glass ceiling everyone talks about…until finally, it shatters. Could this match it be another breakthrough for Ambrose? Couldn’t potential he steal the show – a tall task given the chemistry between AJ Styles, and Roman Reigns in their last outing.

– The Extreme Rules pre-show starts at 7:00 PM ET this Sunday, and the actual pay-per-view will begin at 8:00. Join us for live play-by-play results from the event at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday evening.

WWE Superstar John Cena recently spoke about his WWE status and growing mainstream success during a live Fast Company conference held earlier this week in Los Angeles, California. Below are some of the highlights of what Cena said, courtesy of the FastCoCreate.com website.

On the reason he has been looking for more non-WWE work as of late:

“As a 39-year-old adult, I certainly would love to be a bad guy or to push the limits of the broadcast, but that is not my job. My job is to work for a company that produces PG television and do the best I can. In redefining my brand, I’m looking for opportunities outside of the WWE because I realize I have to play within certain goalposts. When I came in [to the WWE] in 2002, it was more like the Jerry Springer show and now it’s really a good family program. So I’ve had to change the tools in my toolbox and adapt to my surroundings yet stay authentic to myself. My experiences in the wrestling ring have set me up for what I’m trying to do outside.”

On how involved with WWE is he these days:

“The first question I ask myself is, do I want to do it? I think the first question a lot of folks ask themselves is, is this good business? Does it pay me a lot of money? That is short-term success in life. I know [the WWE has] half a billion social followers. I know our business model to drive more people toward the network. I know our t-shirt sales. I know our consumer fan base. I know our attendance for live events. I know we’re not deep enough business-wise in China so I’m doing what I can to get us into China. I’m not just a dude who laces his shoes up and slides into the ring—I love the brand. And if I’m not active in the brand physically, I will be active in the brand mentally. And I do not align myself with properties that I don’t feel that passionate about. To me, that’s what being authentic is all about.”
