On Monday, WWE posted an update on the shoulder injury Ember Moon sustained, confirming that she will be out of the NXT Women’s Championship Fatal-4-Way match at the upcoming NXT TakeOver: Chicago live WWE Network special later this month.

As a result of Moon being pulled from the match due to injury, the NXT Women’s Championship will now be contested in a Triple-Threat match, as Asuka defends against Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot at the live special that goes down during WWE Payback pay-per-view weekend.

NXT TakeOver: Chicago is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 20th at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, airing live via the WWE Network.

From WWE.com:

Shoulder injury takes Ember Moon out of TakeOver: Chicago

Ember Moon’s title opportunity against NXT Women’s Champion Asuka will have to wait.

Moon suffered a grade one shoulder sprain as a result of Asuka’s ambush during last week’s No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal and will not be able to compete at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20, WWE.com has learned. Doctors estimate that Moon will require four to five weeks to recover from the injury.

Along with Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross, Moon was scheduled to challenge Asuka in an NXT Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way Match in Chicago. NXT General Manager William Regal announced the title bout after Asuka crashed last week’s No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal and brutalized the three finalists: Moon, Riot and Cross.

During the turmoil, The Empress of Tomorrow pushed Moon off the top turnbuckle before launching her through the ropes, causing Moon to fall hard on the floor.

More details are expected to be released this Wednesday on NXT.

— Braun Strowman is expected back on Raw this Monday, after missing this past week due to the “injuries” he suffered at Great Balls of Fire. There’s speculation that WWE will move towards either a triple threat or four way match at SummerSlam and it’s possible Strowman will make his presence felt during the Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe match.

Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul has stated that the French manufacturer will not accept new proposals to converge engine development in F1.

Red Bull has been arguing for the approach as it seeks to find a way forward following the announcement that its own engine supplier Honda is quitting the sport at the end of 2021.

The team is considering buying the existing hybrid power unit technology and bringing it in house, but doesn’t want to get involved in a costly engine ‘arms race’ with Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault.

Ferrari has signalled that it might be open to a strategy of engine performance convergence, but Mercedes has called the proposal ‘insulting’.

And it’s clear that Abiteboul is just as unhappy with the suggestion, saying that it strikes at the very heart of what they consider Formula 1 to be all about.

“There has been a meeting where we all expressed our position,” Abiteboul told Sky Sports F1. “We’ve not changed our position.

“There is a set of regulations,” he continued. “We are ready for some sort of compromise, in particular in the engine freeze because we accept convergence is happening, so spending big money is crazy.

“Having said that there is clearly a line. We will not turn our backs on 70 years of competition on engines, engine development and performance.

“For us the engine as a performance differentiator is at the core of F1. It’s what it means for us. We will not cross that line, that is very clear.”

That said, Abiteboul acknowledged that the situation regarding the supply of engines in F1 is a serious matter. Red Bull has threatened to quit the sport if it can’t find a suitable replacement for Honda.

“We need to find a solution for Red Bull” he said. The current sporting rules would oblige Renault to supply engines to Red Bull and its sister squad AlphaTauri if called upon.

But Red Bull split from Renault in 2018 in favour of their short lived but successful partnership with Honda, making the prospect of a shotgun reunion somewhat unappealing to Christian Horner, Helmut Marko and team owner Dietrich Mateschitz – if not quite so much to Abiteboul.

“There is already a solution in the regulation,” responded Abiteboul. “We never say never. In particular we have always said we would comply with the regulations. If we have the obligation, we will do so.”

But changing the rules to allow Red Bull to create an in-house power unit development programme would be another matter entirely.

“If they can do it with Honda then all the best, but we should not go further than that,” he said. “[But] if we need to write in the regulations that Red Bull should have the best engine, that’s something different. But I think this is not what’s at stake here.”

In fact Abiteboul was sounding fairly upbeat about the prospect of having Red Bull back in the Renault fold again – this time as an equal partner.

“It would be good to have a partner team rather than a customer team because you see that F1 is shaping up with these groups of teams,” he said. “There are probably some opportunities there whether they be financial, commercial, political or technical.

“But I think also we need to accept that train has gone,” he admitted, acknowledging that recent uncertainties about Renault’s own long-time future in the sport had played a part.

“There was a point when there was a lot of question marks regarding Renault’s commitment to F1,” he acknowledged. “We were not really in a position to secure a long-term customer or partner team.

“[Now] we need to see when the next train is going to pass,” he added. “For me, that’s not going to be massively a job added to our plan for the future.”

New WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne recently spoke with ESPN following his championship victory over former title-holder Tyler Bate at this past Saturday night’s NXT TakeOver: Chicago event.

Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On how his match with Tyler Bate was received by those backstage at the show: “It was quite overwhelming to be honest. I didn’t expect it from the get-go, really. I’d be confident that any venue in the U.K., that there would be a fair amount of people that know who myself and Tyler are. It’s another thing to walk out in Chicago and get a great reception. And then to walk back to an even more overwhelming reception from the people in the back, the people that have been around the business for so long and all the great ones behind it all. It’s unbelievable.”

On working with former champion Tyler Bate: “[Tyler is] one of my two favorite people to wrestle [the other being fellow U.K. performer Mark Andrews] and I’m really glad I got to share that one with him. I had a big hand in training Tyler. I got him his first ever booking, which was against me in a tag match. As proud as I am of myself for being able to hold this WWE title, I was incredibly proud of him, as well. The two Brits on such a huge show of this magnitude.”

On his dream opponents: “I’d love to wrestle Brock Lesnar. It’s the realism, the way he carries himself. It’s 100 percent believable because he’s real. That’s someone who I’d love to get in the ring with someday. I don’t think there’s a possibility of it ever happening, but I’d also love to wrestle William Regal one day.”

Longtime top WWE Superstar John Cena was recently a guest on the Playback Podcast for an interview. Below are some of the highlights.

On his thoughts on the job Paul “Triple H” Levesque has done in establishing NXT as the third major league brand under the WWE corporate umbrella: “Yeah, people don’t understand it’s a business of creativity and I’m wearing a suit right now because I’m comfortable in a suit. Everyone’s like, ‘ah, dress casual.’ This is my casual. I don’t mind being in a suit. I have a more Vince [McMahon] style than I have a Triple H style, but you get to be creative. What Triple H has done with NXT is literally creating another functioning brand for the company. That is awesome! Like, I tell him all the time. I’m fascinated by the growth and development. It’s amazing to see them run two functional brands now we legit have a third that we can set up in a town for one of our big four pay-per-views and sell out five days in a row. That’s unheard of in the ticket-tearing business. That’s unheard of.”

On enjoying going to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida to give young, aspiring WWE talents useful and often-times cryptic advice: “I would love to do something like that and I don’t even mean in that major of a capacity. I live very close to the [WWE] Performance Center in Orlando [Florida]. I would love to just go there everyday and give advice. I love going to the Performance Center every once in a while and just giving a way left field look of, ‘I know you’re being told this by your coaches, I’ll drop, like, some weird fortune cookie moments on them and just about-face and leave and everyone’s scratching their heads going, ‘what happened?’. I like that too, man. You don’t have to be in charge of creativity to be around the creativity. I just love the creativity of the [pro wrestling] business.”

On his public marriage proposal to Nikki Bella live in the ring at WrestleMania 33 being what he considers his “favorite moment” in his WWE career: “The answer to my greatest match question is always the same. It’s my next one because that means I can continue doing what I love. My favorite moment is obviously when Nicole said she would marry me in front of 75,000 [people] at the Citrus Bowl.”

On this week’s episode of ‘Dinner With The King’, hosts WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler and Glenn Moore give insight about WWE’s usage of the Great Balls of Fire name.

Lawler explains how WWE and Jerry Lee Lewis, who owns the usage of Great Balls of Fire, worked out a deal (18:45 mark of show).

“My personal attorney here in Memphis is Joe Barton. Good friend of mine and my attorney. I got a phone call from Joe a few weeks ago, and Joe also represents Jerry Lee Lewis.

And Joe said, “Hey Jerry, do you happen to know who I would contact at the WWE about copyright infringement?”

I go, “What? What are you talking about?”

He goes, “Well, we understand they are doing a pay-per-view called Great Balls of Fire and Jerry Lee has that phrase trademarked. He has ever since they recorded the song.”

So, I put him in touch with the WWE people, gave him a name. Apparently he called them and got everything worked out. Not only are they using the name, they are using Jerry Lee’s song, which is awesome.”

Also during this episode, The King talks about Andy Kaufman’s death, Kaufman’s final appearance in Memphis, how The King became King, and much more.

You can listen to the whole show below:

John Hennigan (aka John Morrison, Johnny Mundo) took to social media on Tuesday to announce that he and fellow Lucha Underground star Kira Forster (aka Valkyrie) have gotten engaged to be married.

“She said yes,” wrote an excited Hennigan via his official Twitter page. Forster wrote on her Twitter page, “I said yes!”

Congratulations to the happy couple.

— WWE sent out the following today:

Just a heads up we announced five additional competitors for the Mae Young Classic below including Tessa Blanchard, daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and Four Horseman Tully Blanchard.

The anticipation for WWE’s inaugural Mae Young Classic continues to grow with the announcement of five more entrants into the tournament, as first reported by ESPN.com.

Third-generation wrestler Tessa Blanchard, hard-hitting veteran Abbey Laith, black-belt judoka Taynara Conti, international bruiser Jazzy Gabert and Great Khali protégé Kavita Devi are the latest additions to the Classic, which streams this summer, exclusively on WWE Network.

They will join Toni Storm, Princesa Sugehit, Lacey Evans and Sarah Logan, who were announced last week for the 32-woman tournament.

Tessa Blanchard

Twenty-one-year-old Tessa Blanchard, of Charlotte, N.C., may be new to the WWE Universe, but her last name isn’t. The daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and Four Horseman Tully Blanchard, granddaughter of wrestler-turned-promoter Joe Blanchard, and stepdaughter of NWA legend Magnum TA, Tessa decided to follow in the family trade after watching her father’s Hall of Fame induction in 2012.

Since her 2014 debut, Blanchard has competed across the globe, including in the U.K., China, Japan and the Maritimes (where she once wrestled 23 nights in a row). She has even garnered praise from The Rock, whom she worked with on the set of the movie “Fighting with My Family.”

Abbey Laith

Abbey Laith grew up admiring revolutionaries like Lita, Chyna and Ivory, but the WWE Performance Center standout — renowned for her strikes and suplexes — will have a chance to break new ground of her own in this summer’s Classic. Coming to wrestling with an extensive background in dance, particularly ballet, Laith began training for the ring while working toward a bachelor’s degree in dance education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Laith, who counts WWE Cruiserweight Drew Gulak as one of her original coaches, developed into wrestling royalty on the independent scene. She captured titles in SHIMMER Women Athletes and Shine Wrestling and became the only woman to hold the Chikara Grand Championship before joining the Performance Center earlier this year.

Taynara Conti

A newcomer to sports-entertainment, 22-year-old judo master Taynara Conti might be one of the Classic’s least-seasoned wrestlers inside the ring. However, the Performance Center recruit isn’t lacking world-class combat-sport experience.

Conti spent years honing her martial arts skills in her native Brazil, eventually being promoted to black belt in judo and blue belt in jiu-jitsu. She competed in the 2016 Olympic trials in judo, and though Conti narrowly missed the cut, her thunderous throws helped put her on the radar of WWE talent scouts. Having trained under WWE coaches since last October, Conti will get her first chance at The Mae Young Classic to show the world what happens when a decorated judoka enters the ring.

Jazzy Gabert

Representing Germany in the Classic is Jazzy Gabert, a muscle-packed, 6-foot-1 brawler who has wrestled internationally for more than 15 years. A strongwoman and professional MMA fighter outside the ring, the bruising Berliner has achieved her greatest success in Europe and Japan.

Gabert is a multi-time champion in Japan’s Stardom organization, and she is currently a women’s champion for groups in Germany and Switzerland. In MMA, she has fought under the banners of the Rizin Fighting Federation and IFO Europe.

Kavita Devi

Kavita Devi is a powerhouse student of former World Champion The Great Khali. Hailing from Jind, Haryana, India, the 5-foot-9 Devi is a top competitor in Khali’s Punjab-based organization, Continental Wrestling Entertainment. She gained the attention of WWE talent scouts at a tryout this past April in Dubai.

Devi was an accomplished kabaddi player in high school and is also a competitive powerlifter. In 2016, she won gold in the 75 kg weightlifting division at the South Asian Games. Inside the ring, Devi has racked up victories using a head-caving roundhouse kick.
