Cody Rhodes recently appeared as a guest on Edge and Christian’s podcast, E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, for an in-depth interview. Featured below are some of the highlights.

On feeling like he owes Rey Mysterio: “I have a Wookiee life debt to Rey Mysterio and he doesn’t even know it. Rey was kind of the one who ribbed me and brought me into the office that day with Vince [McMahon] and said, ‘I want to work Cody at WrestleMania – he [has] got some good ideas.’ And I did, thank God. And that’s where I think Vince kind of even played me. He said, like, ‘oh, do you have it on paper?’ and I actually had it on paper in my bag and I handed it to him. And after that, he kind of just grumbled and I got a ‘yes’ out of that grumble. I owe Rey everything I have, man. He [doesn’t] even know. He [doesn’t] even spell my name right, C-O-D-E-Y. That’s got to be a rib.”

On learning that he can always get better while working in WWE: “One thing I consistently learned with WWE, I’m sure [Edge and Christian] both, I know [Edge and Christian] both figured this out over and over again, you think you’re working hard, and then you enter something new, you fill that block. And then, you’re like, ‘gosh, I’m covering this every second of every day.’ Like, in that company, you always find out that you could be working harder, I guess, if that makes any sense. There’s always this graduated level you’re working at.”

On his time as part of The Legacy with Ted DiBiase Jr.: “With The Legacy particularly, I was the ugly duckling. I had a great spot, but I was the fall guy. Teddy was positioned to be the next Randy. Randy was the man. I knew I had to supersede Teddy in terms of they put me on SmackDown, they we’re expecting much, but they definitely didn’t set me up to fail. I started the ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes stuff and during that period, I learned that I had to work a-whole-nother degree harder to compete.

“There was this pivotal moment where I had to stop competing with my peers like Dolph Ziggler, and [The] Miz, and DiBiase, and [Jack] Swagger, all those guys. There came a moment when I stopped competing with them. We did a South America tour and after a show, Teddy got real drunk on the bus. Many guys get real drunk on the bus. I loved Teddy, but I was really jealous of him, just incredibly jealous of him. And he came into catering and he was so drunk only one eye was open, and he’s kind of just like slurring his words, and he approached the piano. It was a really nice piano in the middle of South America, like this balcony overlooking the water, and all this. And he flipped the piano lid up real hard and I was like, ‘oh no, this is going to be a mess.’ And he sat down and with one eye, he starts playing, and he starts playing some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard from a piano and he’s just smashed, just destroyed. And I actually remember I told someone at the table, ‘do you know what? I’m done. I’m done competing with him. He’s just… I’m just going to compete with myself because when you’re a [WWE] Hall Of Famer’s son and you don’t have to work very hard to get the gig, it becomes a matter of once you get the gig, you have to work incredibly hard to even get in your own discussion.”

On his time evolving as a singles competitor in WWE after The Legacy group ended: “I always kind of felt, like, stuff was clicking with ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes, stuff with the mask clicked more, but it wasn’t clicking to the level of, like, ‘holy smokes, he’s going to win Money In The Bank and he’s our next guy’. It was clicking to a degree, so after a while, I started to think, especially around the Stardust period, I started to think, ‘maybe this is going to be my thing is that when I finally get super to where I want to get, when I finally win, I’m going to be a combination of all these things’ because I did like to commit. I always liked to commit to the spots that I got. I really committed to Stardust because I thought it was so ridiculous that if you didn’t commit it would just be sad. Like, you had to really commit to it and own it or otherwise you could see Cody in it and that was sad, versus, when the lights are up, Stardust.”

On parting ways with WWE: “Leaving [WWE] was really difficult, but it was also the easiest decision I had ever made. It was difficult because I had a family. 19 years old, I go to OVW, and I have my friends, and I have little Zack Ryder, he’s still there, and I have Dustin [Runnels]. I’ve got family there and I’ve got Arn [Anderson], who… Arn is a huge part… all these people, whatever. And that was hard to not tell them because this was a decision I had to make.”

On wanting to go back to Cody Rhodes after his father, Dusty Rhodes, passed away: “I wanted to go back to being Cody Rhodes. Vince was being receptive to it. Hunter was being receptive to it. The problem was they were taking too long. And my dad had just [passed]. It may have been a minute, but he passed away. And there was some inner turmoil and when you have that inner turmoil, the last thing you want is turmoil at work, I think. And I just couldn’t handle it. It was sad. It was sad to put on that suit. It was like being a sad clown, literally. It was sad. And I knew they were receptive and thought maybe this was a good idea, but I needed it now. It just came to, ‘I’m going to leave, you don’t get to fire me, but you also don’t get to fix me. I’m going to go out and I’m going to fix myself. And who knows what I’m going to do after that?'”

Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks recently addressed the one question on the minds of the majority of The Young Bucks fans — will the decorated tag-team wrestlers consider signing with WWE?

Matt touched on the topic when answering ten questions from fans during a Q&A on his official Instagram page this week.

As noted, The Young Bucks’ contracts with Ring Of Honor (ROH) are scheduled to expire at the end of 2018, opening the door for a potential move to WWE if all parties involved are interested and able to come to terms.

So, are The Young Bucks considering this possibility?

“I’m considering everything right now,” said Matt during the aforementioned Q&A on Instagram, before giving an interesting response to another fan who asked about The Young Bucks’ plans for retirement and how much longer they plan on wrestling.

“Much shorter than people imagine,” responded Matt about how much longer he Nick Jackson will continue with their in-ring careers.

Jackson also claimed during the Q&A that he doesn’t consider The Young Bucks to be the greatest pro wrestling tag-team of all-time, however he did make sure to point out that it is “the goal by the end.”

Saudi Arabia will host Formula E’s very first night event in 2021, with a double-header weekend scheduled on February 26-27 on the streets of Diriyah.

The pair of races will constitute the third and fourth rounds of the 2021 FIA Formula E Championship and follow the all-electric series’ opening double-header at Santiago, Chili.

For Formula E’s third visist to Saudi Arabia, Diriyah will light up its streets thanks in part to a low consumption LED floodlighting technology that will reduce energy consumption by up to fifty per cent compared to non-LED technologies.

The remaining energy needed to supply the floodlighting will be sourced from fully renewable technology provided by high performing low-carbon certified hydrogenated vegetable oil made from sustainable materials.

“We are very proud to partner with Saudi to create Formula E’s first-ever night race,” said FE co-founder and chief championship officer Alberto Longo

“I am confident the race will be spectacular and lead to a style of competitive action we haven’t seen before.

“As with everything we do, our first thought was about how to bring our sporting vision to life in a sustainable way.

“Before we innovate our racing product, we must be confident we can maintain the standards of sustainable practice we hold ourselves accountable to.”

Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki AlFaisal Al Saud, the Saudi Arabia minister of sport added: “In 2018, the ancient historical city of Diriyah made history in hosting the first fully electric race on the streets of the region.

“The debut event sparked so much joy and energy to our sporting journey and was one of a number of major sporting firsts that have since inspired our people and helped to shine a spotlight on Saudi Arabia’s massive transformation under the Kingdom’s vision 2030.

“In 2019, Diryah was the first to host back to back races during a race weekend and now once again we will make sporting history.

“It is very fitting that a place so ancient will showcase the latest in sustainable technology as Diriyah lights up to shine bright for the world to see.

“We look forward to the dramatic racing and incredible scenes that are guaranteed to unfold under the lights.”

As a reminder, Formula 1 is also set to visit Saudi Arabia next year, with Jeddah hosting the country’s first Grand Prix on its floodlit streets on November 28, 2021.

— Brock Lesnar’s next Universal title defense is currently scheduled for the 8/19 SummerSlam PPV, where he is expected to tentatively headline. However, this is not locked in stone but could depend on whether Lesnar declares himself eligible to return to UFC by being put back in the USADA drug testing pool by June 30. If he does by that date, it would enable him to work the UFC show on New Year’s weekend, but if he doesn’t go back into the pool, it is very likely he will be staying with WWE.

— Either way, with both UFC and WWE ready to sign very rich deals, the timing of Lesnar once again being a free agent later this year is impeccable as he is not only still the WWE’s Universal champion, but he has a great ability to successfully play one side against the other. Bottom line, Lesnar is likely in for a massive pay day on his next contract with whichever company he goes with.

As noted, Triple H spoke with the media while in the U.K. for the taping of WWE’s two-day WWE U.K. Championship Tournament special for the WWE Network. Featured below are some additional highlights.

On WWE working with local independent promotions in the U.K.: “I think to say to ‘work with all the indies,’ I’ve said this before, there are groups cultivating talent and I’d like to work with those. There are also groups out there just putting on shows and you’ve heard the stories of are you going to get paid? Is there medical? There’s a lot of things we’re trying to upgrade. It’s hard, fans just see it and they liked the product or they don’t, but I’m trying to upgrade the behind-the-scenes for the talent, for their health, for their well being, [and] for their careers. I want this to be a career for people, not a thing where you you hope that you make it and 15 years later and go, ‘Man, I spent a lot of time doing this and I have nothing to show for it.’ Trying to change that and trying to change that for their well being. That’s the effort and at the same time showcasing them to the world. The pathway to get to WWE, the pathway to get this to be a career didn’t necessarily exist before, [I] think talent is beginning to see this [open up].”

On their new U.K. brand becoming included in a more global vision of NXT: “I think it organically developed into that, it what was always in my head of how it would end up being. When we did it the first time it was, ‘Hey, WWE is going to do this UK tournament’ and I think it helped up put more eyeballs on it. But as NXT has become more and more established, the ability to look at Raw and SmackDown as kind of these two bigger flagship juggernauts that are out there and where everything sits beneath it. It’s not a downgrade, but it’s just this global system that allows you to have the benefits of the WWE and a career that can be meaningful. Putting these in other international markets and in some way building a global territory system, much like what existed in the U.S. year ago, but global.

“Having talent have those places to work, so even if they spend time in a location and they’re not quite ready to make that move yet or it’s just time for them to go someplace else, they can go someplace else, but still stay within that system. Still continued to grow. If I were a 25 year old kid trying to make it in the business and they told me, ‘You want to go to the Middle East for six months and work a territory there?’ I’d say, ‘hell yeah.’ Those are the things that are a blast when you’re at that time frame and to be able to have that experience will be so valuable to all those talents.”
