The Belgian played under the new manager for the first time on Sunday, and the Norwegian has no plans to use him in a static role

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted Romelu Lukaku will not play in a “target man” role as long as he is in charge.

Lukaku endured a difficult first half of the season, struggling for form and fitness after claiming he had been negatively impacted by building up too much muscle during the World Cup.

The 25-year-old striker was granted compassionate leave over Christmas and, as such, is further behind than the majority of his team-mates with respect to match sharpness.

But, in Sunday’s 4-1 hammering of Bournemouth, Lukaku came on as a second-half substitute for the impressive Marcus Rashford and scored United’s final goal, beating Asmir Begovic after latching on to Paul Pogba’s pass.

It was the first time Lukaku had featured since former boss Jose Mourinho – with whom the Belgian was said to have a close bond – was replaced by Solskjaer, and the new man at the helm is excited by the prospect of the former Everton man being fully fit.

“At times he’s a good target man, but if you tell him to be a target man he’ll never face the goal,” Solskjaer told reporters. “Today [Sunday] he was side-on and he’s got the attributes of a top, top striker.

“We need to work on his fitness, but I’m delighted. Even though he was half a yard offside [for his goal], it was a good finish.”

Bournemouth lost their goalscorer and defender Nathan Ake to injury late in the game, but manager Eddie Howe was unsure about the severity of the suspected hamstring issue.

“I don’t know the latest on Nathan Ake,” Howe said. “I’ll need to speak to him and the medical team, but it looked like a hamstring complaint.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s men secured their place in the fourth round of the cup with a 7-0 win against the League Two side

Tottenham have set a new club-record by beating Tranmere Rovers 7-0 in their FA Cup third-round tie.

The victory is Spurs’ biggest win away from home in the club’s 136-year history.

The seven-goal mauling was also Tottenham’s largest margin of victory since they beat Wigan Athletic 9-1 in 2009, and the club’s biggest FA Cup win since they overcame Crewe 13-2 in a fourth-round replay 59 years ago.

Surprisingly, Spurs took 40 minutes to break the deadlock at Prenton Park, which came through through Serge Aurier, who also bagged his second 10 minutes after the interval. It was the former PSG man’s first ever career brace.

Aurier’s double also means he scored more goals on Friday than he had during his previous 35 appearances combined.

Fernando Llorente also was on the scoresheet for Tottenham, and the Spanish striker netted a hat-trick for Pochettino’s side.

Llorente has now scored three in each of his last two starts in the FA Cup. The 33-year-old recorded a hat-trick when Spurs beat Rochdale 6-1 last February.

Son Heung-min was the third player to get on the scoresheet for Tottenham before he was replaced on 65 minutes. Harry Kane added a seventh and final goal in the 82nd minute – his ninth in the last eight FA Cup matches.

The win means the north London club are the first side to qualify for the fourth round of the cup and will hope their Premier League rivals slip up during the remainder of the weekend’s fixtures.

Kane and Son were among a number of first-team players selected for Tottenham, as well as Ben Davies, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura, who played all 90 minutes.

Tottenham have not won a major trophy since claiming the League Cup in 2008, and is often levelled as an argument against Pochettino’s success at Spurs.

Next up for Tottenham is the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea which will take place on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium.

That is followed by a weekend Premier League clash with Manchester United, also in London. A win could help reduce the deficit to leaders Liverpool who, following the results from the Premier League’s midweek matches, Spurs trail by six points.

Western Sydney Wanderers failed to capitalise on a Melbourne City red card and instead slumped to another A-League defeat on New Year’s Day.

Melbourne City began 2019 by moving back into the A-League’s top four as the outstanding Eugene Galekovic kept Western Sydney Wanderers at bay in a 2-0 away triumph.

City’s speed on the counter initially proved the undoing of the sloppy Wanderers, who have now won just once in seven matches, as Lachlan Wales and Ritchie de Laet found the target in quick succession, before goalkeeper Galekovic came to the fore.

Rostyn Griffiths was foolishly sent off for City, but Galekovic made a string of stunning saves, most notably keeping out Oriol Riera’s late penalty to preserve his clean sheet.

The out-of-sorts Wanderers slumped to a third consecutive defeat at ANZ Stadium and were jeered on the full-time whistle in a frustrating start to the new year.

There was little incident of note in a scrappy opening 35 minutes before some lax defending allowed Wales through to break the deadlock, the City forward sprinting clear from Dario Vidosic’s long throw-in on halfway and finishing coolly.

And the visitors swiftly struck again. Riley McGree spun into space on the right and then laid on a pass for De Laet to drill across Vedran Janjetovic and into the bottom-left corner.

An excellent Galekovic save then denied the Wanderers’ Bruce Kamau, but the hosts were boosted following the restart as Griffiths, already booked, lunged into a challenge on Alex Baumjohann and saw red.

The league’s best defence stood firm, though, and Galekovic followed up instinctive stops from Baumjohann and Abraham Majok by springing to his right to keep out Riera after Nathaniel Atkinson had handled.

The Switzerland international believes the depth of talent at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal makes recent league and cup defeats nothing to worry about

Xherdan Shaqiri remains unfazed by Liverpool’s recent Premier League and FA Cup defeats, with a positive response expected by Jurgen Klopp’s strongest side.

Having enjoyed an unbeaten start to their English top-flight campaign and set their sights on major silverware this term, the Reds have endured a wobble of late.

A 2-1 reversal at Manchester City means they are now just four points clear of the chasing pack in the title race, while the same scoreline away at Wolves on Monday saw another trophy bid ended.

Shaqiri was among those to figure in a much-changed and very young side at Molineux, but the Switzerland international is refusing to read too much into back-to-back losses.

He told Liverpool’s official website, having seen a second-half free-kick strike the post as the Reds came unstuck against Wolves: “Of course, we are disappointed after this game because we lost, first of all, but I think we didn’t deserve this result because we tried to play football.

“We tried to come back. We tried everything until the end and you cannot say the attitude wasn’t there until the last minute. We tried everything.

“Sometimes you need luck also and the free-kick was very unlucky. I saw the ball inside already, but it never went in.

“We obviously had a lot of young players and a lot of players in who didn’t play for a long time. We wanted to win this game to go to the next round, but the FA Cup is like this: you lose the game and you are out.

“So, we close this game now and are looking forward to the weekend and the Premier League.”

Quizzed on whether Klopp’s team will need to “dig deep” in their next outing against Brighton on Saturday, Shaqiri added: “I think we have enough players who can jump in.

“This season we have the depth. There are a lot of players who are going to come in and give everything and the quality is still there.”

The depth of Liverpool’s squad was highlighted in a narrow defeat to Wolves, with teenage trio Rafa Camacho, Curtis Jones and Ki-Jana Hoever all seeing competitive minutes.

The latter was introduced early on in an FA Cup third round tie when Dejan Lovren suffered an untimely injury, and the 16-year-old impressed with a confident and mature display.

Shaqiri said of the promising Dutch defender: “He is very nice.

“He is still very young, you see that on the pitch also. He came on and he tried everything. He is going to be a very good player in the future.”

Former Roma and Italy forward Antonio Cassano says that he believes his nation has a problem with xenophobia, describing it as a ‘racist country’.

The ex-Real Madrid and Milan man, who retired from the game in 2017, spoke to Sky Italia in a wide-ranging conversation that conveyed his thoughts on a number of issues.

Aside from discussing the future of Gonzalo Higuain, who seems bound for the Milan exit, and the value of several other Serie A players, the 36-year-old was drawn on the subject of intolerance in the game.

There have been several issues throughout the Italian game so far this season, most notably the abuse targeted at Napoli defender and Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly.

Such an instance comes on the back of other issues involving players like Mario Balotelli and Kevin-Prince Boateng in recent years.

Cassano roundly condemned such incidents and staunchly refused to mark them out as individual instances, stating that he felt them to be part of a larger pattern.

“It is something that I still cannot understand,” the striker said. “We are all equal; white, black, yellow.

“Unfortunately, sometimes black players are targeted. Now it’s Koulibaly, and in the past there was Balotelli and Boateng. I don’t understand why.

“They say that in Italy there is no racism – I say there is. I have the impression that Italy is a racist country.”

Though Cassano was not asked further on the wider issues of racism in the sport, numerous other high-profile incidents have beset the European game this season.

Raheem Sterling was verbally abused at his side Manchester City’s clash with Chelsea, while Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a banana skin thrown at him during a derby clash with Tottenham.

Cassano officially confirmed his retirement last year after exploring a potential return to the game with Serie C side Virtus Entella.

Despite a career filled with accomplishments, Cassano admits he could have reached even greater heights had he applied himself more. 

“I only did 50 percent of what I was capable of doing,” Cassano said. “I was a disaster area sometimes and I hated training.

“If I had done what I should have done over the course of 15 years, I would have been like (Lionel) Messi.”

The former Gunners duo have been in contact every few days since the Frenchman left north London in 2007 and are now set for a reunion at Monaco

Cesc Fabregas is on the verge of joining French side Monaco, where he will reunite with his former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry.

The Frenchman is now manager of the Ligue 1 team and revealed over the weekend that since leaving the Gunners 11 years ago he has spoken with Fabregas “every two or three days”.

Consequently, a move to Monte Carlo was always going to represent an attractive proposition for Fabregas, who has struggled for first-team opportunities at Chelsea this season under new manager Maurizio Sarri, making just six appearances in the Premier League, only one of which was as a starter.

His desire to move on, thus, comes as no surprise, nor does his next destination. Fabregas’ relationship with Henry is a special one that spans more than a decade.

Indeed, Henry was even a guest at Fabregas’ wedding in August, while they both share the same agent, Darren Dein, who has helped broker the biggest moves in their respective careers.

Dein is perhaps the most important figure in the relationship here. He was best man at Henry’s wedding, while he also represents the Frenchman both commercially and as a football agent. The decision to leave Arsenal in 2007 was partly due to the enforced exit of Dein Sr, which left then manager Arsene Wenger without his long-term ally at the club.

Fabregas even admitted after Henry’s departure that he could be destabilised by such a key player and friend leaving the club. However, he went on to captain the Arsenal side, taking on more responsibility and becoming an integral part of the midfield.

“I have more responsibility than before,” he said the following season. “When you looked at Arsenal a year or two years ago you just saw Thierry Henry. It was a little bit like the other players did not exist.

“But when he left it was an opportunity for everybody to show we are a team and a good club. Even if the best player in the world is leaving us, we can still achieve something.”

Henry’s tutelage of a young Fabregas at Arsenal helped the Spaniard grow in confidence on the training pitches at London Colney and the two formed an almost telepathic partnership as the Spaniard became a first-team regular.

The Champions League game against Juventus in 2006, when Fabregas ran the show against former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, was an example of his increasing influence on the team.

Fabregas’ adoration for Henry is evident from previous interviews, even naming the former striker as the second-best player he’s ever played with, behind Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Both players have achieved great success everywhere they’ve been, with Fabregas winning the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, and Henry matching those achievements with France, as well as lifting the Champions League during his spell at Barcelona.

They will now be hoping that by teaming up once again, they will be able to lift 19th-placed Monaco out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

Certainly, Fabregas’ arrival should add some badly needed creativity and composure to the midfield.

Many have written off the 31-year-old Fabregas because of his struggles at Stamford Bridge this season but he should flourish at the Stade Louis II.

After all, he’ll be playing under a manager who knows him better than almost anyone else.

In the first black and white image, the newlyweds are pictured in an intimate moment and the bride’s off-the-shoulder lace mermaid-style gown with a dreamy wedding veil is on full display. In an unconventional twist, Hailey’s veil has “Till Death Do Us Part” embroidered across it in large capital letters. Hailey captioned this first dress reveal post: “last Monday was the most special day of my life:)”.

In the next Instagram post, the bride is pictured standing on a set of steps leading to a doorway, providing a close-up view of her gown. Notably, although the silhouette is a traditional mermaid style, the sleeves have a non-traditional detail, not ending at her wrist, rather continuing in a glove-like style. In this post Hailey reveals the dress is designed by Virgil Abloh for Off-White, which explains the unconventional text on the veil—text being a signature feature of Virgil Abloh’s Off-White designs.

It makes sense that Hailey—who is well-versed in the world of fashion in her career as a model—would select one of the fashion industry’s most in-demand designers to create her wedding dress. It also rings true that she would opt for a designer not traditionally associated with bridal. Hailey and Justin as a couple are at the cutting edge of pop culture—Justin through his music and Hailey through fashion, so their wedding was always going to be a blend of old traditions and new ones.

In the third and final post, Hailey and Justin are sharing a sweet moment against a curtain-like backdrop and the back of Hailey’s dress is revealed as a very low V-shape. Barre Body and Bende founder, Emma Seibold, has launched a six-part start-up series that aims to help you take your idea from a seedling to a blossoming business. In this series, Seibold will share her journey, as well as the tips, tricks, and lessons she’s learnt along the way. Read on for part four, see part three here.

Many people (often those who haven’t started their own business before) will tell you that you need a really solid business plan with robust financials and all the rest. That might be true for bigger businesses or ones that required external investment, but if it’s just you and your product or service to begin with, stay clear of the 50-page business plan.

If you over-think it, you run the risk of getting bogged down in ‘analysis-paralysis’ where you simply can’t get started until you have the perfect business plan and you might just miss your window, or even worse, lose faith in yourself and your plan altogether. I believe that you have to have a clear idea of your business, but that a short and sweet business plan is the best kind.

In fact, if you can get really clear on the basics and summarise your business plan onto one page, you are in good stead as it means that you’ve cut out all the extraneous info and you know exactly what you want to do. Let’s look at how to create one of these together. If you google “one-page business plan” you’ll find some useful templates, or you can follow the plan I’ve created below.

Your vision
What are your big hopes and dreams for your company? What do you want to achieve and be in the marketplace/world? What are your company values?

The business opportunity
What is the problem that your business will solve? How will you meet the needs of your customers in a way that no-one else can? What is your unique point of difference?

Industry analysis
What is currently happening in your industry? How has it changed over the past few years? Who are the main competitors? What are they doing well and what are they doing poorly? What are the key factors for success?

Target market
Who will you sell and market your product/service to? What are their characteristics? What are their needs? Where and how do they shop?

Product/service overview
What products and/or services will you be selling?

Distribution
Where and how will you sell?

Marketing plan
How will you get the word out? Consider social media, advertising, publicity, promotions, brand collaborations, ambassadors and events.

Financial plan
Where will you find the money and how much will you need? How much will you spend before you launch and in each of the 12 months following your launch? If you have an idea of how much you’ll spend and possibly make each month, you’ll have a better idea of how much you’ll need to begin with.

Key objectives
What are the key objectives for your first year of business? Make these SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-specific. Google ‘smart objectives’ for more detail on how to write these.

Strategies and actions
List at least one strategy (but likely more) outlining how to achieve each objective and come up with actions (which are the “how-to” steps) to get you to where you want to be.

So there you have it. A one-page business plan. If you end up with two or three (or even four or five) pages, don’t fret! As long as developing your plan has given you some clarity around your business without overwhelming you or complicating things, then it’s a good plan.
