COVIDSafe: Australian contact tracing app

January 12, 2025 | News | No Comments

Redox is closely monitoring Australian Government recommendations and advice regarding the COVID19 pandemic and implementing initiatives for everyone’s safety at work.

Yesterday the Dept. of Health released a new smartphone application that helps contact trace in the event that someone tests positive for the virus.  We believe that this app is safe to download and install and we strongly suggest that all employees do so to protect their colleagues. It is free, very easy to set up and works on both Apple and Android phones. All our Directors have installed the application and invite you to do the same.

The number of cases of COVID19 has been reduced to a trickle nationwide which is fantastic news, it’s our hope that with initiatives such as the COVIDSafe app we can return to relative normalcy soon.

More information can be found on the Department of Health website – https://www.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/covidsafe-app

A brilliant clear glass jar that will showcase your creations, This shapely wee number has a Silver metal lid. It has 4 sides that will take a label nicely due to the flattish surface.

This is a very strong, thick glass jar and complies with ASTM 2179 AND 2147 testing methods. (Ensures glass is able to withstand heat and has no cracks or fractures)

Measurements: Height 7.6cm, Width 7.5cm.

Approximate Volume: 250mls

We recommend 3mm Eco Wick for this jar.

Researchers found that the use of zein-casein bioparticles as seed material leads to a stable biphasic morphology, where proteins form the core of the particles, surrounded by an acrylic polymer shell.

The use of raw materials from natural sources as substitutes for petrochemical monomers is of high interest in the polymer science, to comply with the increasing social awareness of pollution and environmental regulations. Natural proteins emerge as particularly promising candidates to be combine with synthetic polymers, offering the prospect of enhancing the product sustainability. Nonetheless, protein-based hybrid materials still present some drawbacks such as high susceptibility to water, due to the incorporation of hydrophilic protein and the resulting morphology of hybrid particles.

In the present study, reserachers propose a novel approach for synthesizing biphasic hybrid particles with a controlled morphology that tend to optimize the synergy between both phases. Here, protein phase forms the core of hybrid particles, which is surrounded by an acrylic polymer phase. To achieve this particular morphology, a seeded semibatch emulsion polymerization strategy was designed by employing preformed zein-casein bioparticles (BPs) as seed. This paper encompassed a comprehensive exploration of the key variables impacting on both the synthesis of BPs and the subsequent formation of hybrid latex particles. The outcomes of this research not only contribute to a deeper understanding of the synthesis process but also broaden the potential applications of acrylic-protein hybrid films, particularly as coatings.

A new work investigates the influence of polyacrylamide on carbonation behaviors of cement pastes by measuring carbonation depth and pH value.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and mercury intrusion porosimetry were performed to monitor changes in hydrates and microstructure of cement pastes to dissect underlying mechanisms. The results show that polyacrylamide decreases the amount of portlandite (CH) and alters its morphology from a larger size with parallel-stacked lamellar structure to a smaller size with edge-corroded structure, thereby enhancing CH reactivity with CO2 during carbonation. Higher Ca/Si ratios of C-S-H phases with a higher carbonation rate form in the presence of polyacrylamide.

Accelerating effect on the carbonation

Polyacrylamide reduces porosity and improves pore refinement by transferring capillary pores to gel pores due to filling effect of CaCO3 grains with a small crystal size during carbonation. Overall, polyacrylamide yields an accelerating effect on the carbonation of cement paste in a dosage dependent manner.

The study has been published in Cement and Concrete Research, Volume 156, June 2022.
