Coinciding with London Design Week, the Design Museum will have ‘Designers in Residence’ on display. The show is an annual exhibition inviting emerging designers to transform an area of the museum with their work. This year’s residents are chosen for their experimental approach to design and have been invited to create installations responding to the theme of ‘collections’ and the notion of ‘collecting’.
On show will be a contemporary interpretation of the Curiosity Cabinet, a Creativity Machine a touch sensitive Interactive Wall will allow visitors to view key design items from the museums permanent collection.
The initiative supports the selected designers at an early stage of their career, to further practice and develop their work. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation the 2008 Designers in Residence are: Tom Drysdale, Matthew Falla & Lea Jagendorf, Jethro Macey, Adrian Westaway & Ben Storan, Freddie Yauner and Sarah Angold whose installation will be funded by the Tallow Chandlers’ Company.
Design Museum Director, Deyan Sudjic commented: “Designers in Residence is an opportunity for the Design Museum to embrace new talent, this annual exhibition enables the museum to engage with young designers and celebrates the dynamism and potential of a range of designers at the beginning of their careers.”
