Eight Augustana Wrestlers place at the Dakota Wesleyan Open

MITCHELL, S.D.- Eight Augustana University wrestlers placed at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University.

David Potratz (133), Aero Amo (184) and Michael Lowman (285) all placed first in their respective weight classes.

Bailey Neises (149-Unattached) took second in the 149-pound bracket. Colin Ayers (149) and Tim Weber (174) finished third in their respective weight classes while Mitch Rechtzigel (165) and Zach Determan (174-Unattached) delivered fourth-place finishes.

Potratz finished the day 4-0, first defeating Philip Johnson from Jamestown by way of 16-0 tech. fall. He then went on to earn a 14-6 major decision over Jake Hergott of Northwestern. Potratz then won a 10-2 major decision over teammate Adrian Lozano in the semifinals before defeating Northwestern’s Preston Hoebelheinrich with 9-3 decision in the title match.

Amo started the day with a 15-0 technical fall win over Luis Rivera of Northwestern. Amo followed with a 10-2 major victory over Matthew Atwood of Concordia (Neb.). Amo advanced to the finals pinning Nicholas Mech (York (Neb.) Unattached) 2:40 in the first period. Amo would get a 12-6 decision victory over Tyree Cox from Northwestern in the finals for the 184-pound title.

Lowman won his first bout of the day with an 18-2 technical fall over John Hall of Concordia (Neb.). He then won a 9-1 major decision win over Corbin Cooke of Briar Cliff. In his next bout, Lowman pinned Jacob Briggs from Concordia-Moorhead at 5:32. Lowman then won a 3-1 decision over Cole Wilson from Southwest Minnesota State before winning the championship bout by way injury default.

Neises, wrestling unattached, advanced the the finals at 149-pounds before eventually falling to Tyler Steinberg from Northern State by way of a 9-2 decision.
Rechtzigel lost in the third place match in the 165-pound division to Kegen Fingalsen (SMSU-Unattached) by a 7-6 decision.

Determan wrestling unattached, and Weber faced each other in the third-place match at 174-pounds with Weber winning by injury default.

Dakota Wesleyan Open Results

The Vikings will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Kearney, Neb. to compete in the Holiday Inn Open.
