Ligue 1 season to run from August to June

The LFP – French professional football’s governing body – has released its calendar for the 2022/23 season with the dates for France’s domestic competitions over the coming season.
The Ligue 1 season will start on the first weekend of August – nominally, Sunday 7th – and will run all the way up to the first weekend of June. The late ending is due to the World Cup, which will take place in the winter and force a month-and-a-half break.
As for the second tier, the first round of games will be played on the final weekend of July, and end on the same day as Ligue 1. No play-off will take place this year as Ligue 1 will be reduced to 18 teams the following season, meaning only 2 teams will go up and 4 down from the top tier.
The World Cup break will start after matchday 15 on November 13, and league action will resume 10 days after the final, on December 28.
