Mavericks Enter 2019-20 Rated Seventh in National Preseason Poll

MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State wrestling team is rated seventh in the 2019-20 NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Top-25 Preseason Poll.
The Mavericks are one of three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams ranked in the poll. St. Cloud State is rated second, the Mavericks come in at seventh and Upper Iowa is rated 11th.
Minnesota State has five individuals ranked at their respective weight classes, including junior Kyle Rathman (Apple Valley, Minn.), who went 19-5 for the Mavericks a year ago and placed seventh at the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships in earning All-American honors. He is rated No. 4 at 149 lbs.
Senior Louie Sanders (141 lbs.), who is ranked fifth, wrestled his way to a 15-7 overall record and placed second at the NCAA DII Super Regionals where he earned a bid to the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships. Senior Logan Saltou enters the season ranked eighth at 165 lbs., after earning an 18-9 overall record a year ago. He placed third in the NCAA DII Super Regionals and earned a place in the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships. Senior Zach Johnston, who is ranked eighth at 174 lbs., boasted a 14-6 overall record a year ago. He placed fifth at the NCAA Division II Super Regionals. Senior Matthew Blome enters the year ranked sixth at 197 lbs. He is coming off a medical redshirt from a year ago.

Minnesota State’s first action of the year is this weekend when individuals will compete at the RCTC Yellowjacket Open on Saturday in Rochester, Minn.
