Meghan Markle got a shout out in the latest Suits episode

Though Meghan Markle bid farewell to her former Hollywood lifestyle long ago and Suits character Rachel Zane over a year ago, it seems the show’s writers are not yet ready to disconnect the famous female character from the television hit’s narrative arc just yet. 

In the latest episode, which aired earlier this week, the character Mike (expertly played by actor Patrick J. Adams) made reference to his former co-character, Rachel. Reflecting on how she’s faring in her new life, Mike makes a clear nod to Markle’s royal reality when he admits “If I told you how good [Rachel is doing], you probably wouldn’t believe me.”  

At the close of season seven, Markle’s show narrative moved her character Rachel to Seattle with husband Mike, where they were headed to set up their own law offices. But the writing team was unwilling to do away with Markle’s character for good, with the official Suits twitter account posting a GIF from the scene with the caption: “Turns out Rachel is doing REALLY well” with a winking emoji. 

Markle, after all, enjoyed a seven-year run on the show, and shot to fame just as the show experienced its height of success. Although she’s no longer a part of it, Markle admitted in her engagement interview that her royal duties signaled “a new chapter” and a new role she was happy to assume.

Though she won’t be returning to our television screens in the same capacity anymore, there’s no telling when, or how often, Suits will interweave Rachel’s life back into the show’s plot.
